Hi all! I am 45 and have 2 tattoos since I turned 40. It is probably a little strange that i did not get one in my eary 20's while in the NAVY. I almost did a couple of times but thankful was not so impaired that i did not notice how shady the places we went to over seas..

Unfortunately i did make a mistake with my second tat choice and have hated it ever since! It is a Dallas Cowboy star (stop laughing! :-) ). So there are a few questions i would like to ask. Since there is a 10 post minimum here are the questions that i do need help with.

1. Can i cover it with another tat?

2. If yes to 1, would i be able to cover a small potion with white ink since it is blue?

3. More expensive to tat over a tat?

4. Can i ask for design help here if i already know the basic design? Basic design is combining the catain america shield with the NAVY operations specialist symbol. I have a concept but want to put a little more personal touches to it and i am stuck.

Thanks all!

Wade

Shield is to clean and shiny. Wanting something more battle damaged. Not sure on colors for the integrated os symbol. Maybe additional designs surrounding it???

Thanks

Wade

Welcome. This is the right place to be asking those questions.

To be frank, these are questions that you should be asking a competent/skilled tattooer. They are fully going to be able to explain the abilities and limitations of what you are working with. Plus, it'll definitely put you more at ease than asking complete strangers on the internet. We, here, just want you to get the best tattoo possible.

ACE Custom Tattoo and 510 Expert Tattoo are both fantastic shops in Charlotte.

Thanks for the input. I agree i will need to consult a local artist for the cover up. I would like some concept suggestions on my design though. The shield is too clean and shiny. I want something more rough. Colors for the incorporated symbol arent great. I would also like to expand around as ti e goes by.

Any design ideas/ examples?

    • yep. 4-6 weeks before you really know what you've got.  post a link to the person who you're looking at for re-working it.
    • I'd wait until it's healed so you actually know what it's going to look like before I start looking at having it "fixed." How exactly is the other artist going to "fix" it? I've seen more tattoos that look worse after they are fixed than better.
    • Hello everyone. So I got this rose tattoo two weeks ago. Still healing and I know I want to get it “fixed”. My issue with it is that while it looks like a rose you have to look hard to see it’s a rose. I have an appt. scheduled for April to have it worked on by a different artist (he did a pocket watch on my ribs last year that came out great). In meeting with him he said it lacks symmetry (which it does) among some other things, but he feels he can work on this. Looking for any advice. Is this fixable or is it a lost cause? If it’s not fixable then it is what it is, but Tully hoping for some input. Needless to say, I’ve been so bummed since I got because it didn’t come out how I would’ve liked. Thank you.
