  1. I thought this when the traditional hot rod scene got overtaken by rockasilly 'rat rods' and the chopper/cafe scene got bum rushed by the OCC crowd. Focus on the positive and build from there = )
  2. I'm also wondering when people who are "Liking" these Facebook pages will start turning on each other. I've clicked some of these people's pages out of curiosity and I wouldn't be in line to throw any stones if I were them.
  3. I have to say, this depresses me the most. "Tattoo Age" looks like exactly what people have been asking for in the tattoo community. I made sure to join the boycott FB pages just so I could post links to the VBS.TV page I posted a Mike Brown interview from VBS.TV and got one reply Mike Brown interview, yet there's loads of threads on reality TV you guys don't like. Boggles the mind.
  4. I'm wondering if this is a big troll on TLC's part to generate publicity. Definitely has gotten a HUGE response from people online. What if that was the plan? Next week they announce "Okay, the people have spoken, so here's the real show "Apprenticeship Stories", that focuses on five people going through their apprenticeships." The show would quickly breakdown into the usual TLC drama. I'm just connecting dots with all these characters they're introducing on "NY Ink" wanting apprenticeships. Just a theory.
  5. Oh yeah-I have plenty of pics including stuff from the DE Hardy show at the SFMOMA. I'll probably get to it this weekend.
  6. Great trip-did all the tourist/ art things I wanted: Chinatown, Hotel des Artes, Coit Tower,City Lights, North Beach, Tony's Pizza, Ed Hardy's Tattoo City, Fisherman's Wharf, Boudin Bakery, De Young, SFMOMA, Ed Hardy's show at Ft.Mason, Haight Ashbury, Golden Gate Park, Japanese Garden, Exploratorium, Whitewalls, Upper Playground, Grandmaster Flash at the Fillmore, Cris Cleen tattoo, fireworks, The Castro, Market Street, etc. Here is the awesome tattoo I received from Cleen:
  7. The Drafthouse is awesome for so many reasons
  8. Saw it last week-incredible stuff. The mini shop installation was AWESOME.
  9. I'm glad I searched, because I was going to start a thread on this subject:). My interest in tattoos AND motorcycles grew through being involved in the traditional hot rod and custom scene. My friends that helped me with my car ('62 Impala) were heavily tattooed and it got me asking questions. I sold the car and I've had my '78 CB750 for about 3 years now. I've done alot of work to it and pretty much riding it as is for now: Dean, that molded tank is awesome!
  10. "We're so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget that the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it's all about." - Joseph Campbell, The Power of Myth
  11. After I wrote that, I realized that I'm guilty of worrying about what someone is doing on the internet and perhaps what they love doing is going around being negative toward people. Reflexive post is reflexive.
  12. Not directed at you, Ms. Rad-more in regards to that guy from the initial post. But the advice could apply to anyone who's attempting that style. Basics are basics, whether it's art, baking cakes, motorcycle building, carpentry, whatever. Traditional tattoo imagery = strong basic lines, form, and shading. I can draw/paint super realistic images all day, but when I get away from the basics, the work suffers.
  13. That guy from Slipknot was crying by the end of his tattoo. He said it was because of his friend's death, but also that he was about done, pain-wise. That area toward the knee ditch sucks, IMO
  14. I used to care when someone on the internet would rag on me about my art; now I spend more time creating art, less time caring about what people think. If you're going to do it though, do it right and ask someone who knows how like a real-life tattooer in person, preferably while you're getting tattooed. Buy vintage flash books, study and TRACE the images until the style becomes your own, do some research and find the image sources, credit the creators, and draw/paint all the time. Everybody borrows from each other in every field - this documentary is a great summary of that "Everything is a Remix" Most of all, don't apologize for doing something you love; anyone who tries to make you feel bad for that should check themselves and figure out why they feel the need to worry about what someone on the internet is doing. 15. I take it you own the Telos Tarot deck?
  16. Source looks awesome-definitely the kind of New Age thing I like. I'm a meat eater, but I try to mix it up with veggie/vegan fare often, so that would be great.

I saw it on Boingboing. Clowns without senses of humor-bummer = /
  18. Man, last night with the apprentice thing-wow. If people thought the show gave the public the wrong idea about just getting a tattoo, what I saw last night in regards to apprenticeship, jeez...
  19. Thanks for the heads up on the sushi, Tammy.

  21. Not to post jump, but my SF trip is coming up. I don't drink, so bars aren't my thing, but I'm really wanting some tips on restaurants- Italian, seafood, Japanese, Chinese, natural/veggie/"hippie", Mexican. I'm staying at the Hotel Des Artes, but we're going to be all over town. Also, do they do free yoga in any of the parks in the mornings?
  22. As paintings, Sylvia Ji was doing them in '08 Paintings 2008 and Gustavo Rimada gave it more of a rockabilly/cholo spin Portfolio
