a backpiece would be awsome...to most it would just look like a grim reaper...its the small details, like the owl, hourglass, and the earth that make it santisima muerte..i dont see a problem if you dont worship it...better for you, it usually involves some sort of offering..

so a virgin mary with a skull face like the painted posted above isn't necessarily considered santa muerte ?

i have one too....it helps sometimes warding off cops in mexico...haha.... some people might be offended in you having the tattoo and not knowing the story about her, or ritual. not me though...do it....the image is awsome, and makes for a cool tattoo.

Im questioning it more because im considering it as a backpeice, i do know the story behind it but a little skeptical on whether its the done thing to get something like that so huge when you dont actually worship it and just live the imagery!

I've been toying with the idea of getting a tattoo of the 'santa muerte' virgin mary (skeleton instead of woman), I know theres been a thread on religious tattoos on the non religious, but I'd be interested to hear some of your opinions of getting something like this has nothing to do with your particular culture just because you like the imagery ?

My man, if you like his stuff that much, and you got the ching, go for it. I have heard that he is pricier than most because of his clientele, and if I went to his studio, I think I'd go strapped, but hey-I'm paranoid, it's how I got so old!

Ultimately, you have to wear the work, so if you find someone you want to have do it, fuck all else, get it!

Strapped haha, are you sure you aren't exaggerating just a little? he is a professional after all! I do totally agree though, just wanted some opinions off people because his work sometimes looks a little light to me I just love the designs, much prefer the amount of black Tim Hendricks uses to be honest

I don't see anything on there that looks remotely like single-needle. Fine-line, yup. Nice work.

It's a stomach piece I'm looking to get, a cityscape/skyline with and angel looking over it in the centre and all the rays/clouds light in the background so I didn't think that would look gang related at all? just love how he tattoos buildings and clouds

All we can do is speculate on his needle configurations. If you like his work, get a tattoo from him and ask as he gives it to you...

that would be fine, but the question was to help me decide on a style and it holding up and to help me distisguish, if I already chose him I would be indifferent about whatever his needle configurations may be - im not a tattooer

Is cartoon single needle or three needle?, I don't really know the difference to be honest. I know there is quite alot of tattooers who tattoo the single needle style using traditional values which I'm guessing would hold up better, but ive not really seen any large scales pieces done this way with backgrounds etc

What does everyone here think of his work? Style-wise his imagery is my favourite out of most of the fineline black and grey artists I am familiar with. But how does this single needle stuff hold up? anybody had any experience of it, cos some of his work does look very light grey and I actually prefer the pieces where he uses more outlines and proper black.

personally for me finding girls attractive tattoos don't even really come into it, but I think that whoever youre with should be able to overlook any tattoo you want to get, unless they're just advising you not to get a poorly executed one!

@appleadam...unless there is a block on new members starting threads, if you go to the front page of the Forum, in this case, Tattoo 101, on the upper left you will see a large, oblong reddish button that says "+ POST NEW THREAD". Click on that and away you go.

I think you need a certain number of posts before making a new thread, but I could be wrong. But, if you have a question about something, trying doing a search for that topic before starting a new thread.

I love the heavy overfills he does, when he just slams a scary looking skull or something over whatevers underneath

I was at smith street a few months ago. I asked a couple of the guys about stars and dots; Eli says that the other guys do it better than he does (maybe he just doesn't like doing it) and Steve says get all your big pieces done, then get one person to do all the fill. That way it will all match up. It doesn't sound like it takes that long to do.

I would like to get my back done by steve and 3-4 round flights from the uk would for sure make it too expensive

What does everyone think of having their a few seperate peices on your torso/stomach and then having stars and dots for filler?

and who would you recommend to go to for it, perhaps someone at smith st? I'd imagine it to be a tedious job

for me inside upper arm was actually terrible

loved it, wish there were more documentary's like this, it makes me more excited to get tattooed by people when I know they're nice people too!
