1. Love those pine trees! Could be the small picture (above) are dragons?
2. Thus far, I've asked how many estimated hours the work will take to complete and plan from there.
3. Boodah - I just emailed you the questions, thank you! I'll be taking interviews until Feb 15, 2014 :)
4. Thanks KBeee! I'll PM you!
5. I wonder about a paisley-type pattern? Or something Art Deco'ey? Putting on branches/more peony leaves and then adding water/clouds/etc? The Metropolitan Museum of Art - Piece from a Kosode with Peonies and Stream
6. I've read that numbing cream (when it wears off, or is not applied evenly enough) can make the pain itself seem much, much worse than using nothing at all. I don't know that you'd need a muscle relaxer for the twitching per se, maybe something as simple as taking some magnesium orotate or carbonate/citric acid (ie Natural Calm) would do the trick - keep the muscles nice and calm/relaxed vs a Rx relaxer which is normally used for acute spasms (or recreationally, lol.) Beyond that, you're looking at herb territory if you don't want to do the Rx route.
7. Hahaha! Thanks gougetheeyes! That's the plan - figure out how to get folks to recover faster so they can get more tattoos!
8. I'm taking a business development class as part of my herbal medicine program for the next few months. I'm learning about marketing, and developing products and resources for clients/customers. My current project entails learning how to identify clients wants and needs, for product and/or services development through interviewing them. The topic is how folks feel about the tattoo process, what works for them, all that good stuff. Basically, I'm trying to identify an overarching issue that most people have, to see what can theoretically be done to make getting tattoos more enjoyable/easier/what have you. The interview is five questions, and takes about 15-20 mins. If anyone is interested in being interviewed to help me with my research project, please PM me! The more people I can interview, the better! Interviews can be done over phone/skype or I can email you the set of questions - whichever is easier. Iwar, hogg, slayer9019, steve - gougetheeyes said you might be up for an interview? I guess that's it! Thanks for reading!
9. @tavoz - shoot me a private message if you want.
10. I cannot see how that could be a tattoo-related infection. I don't know of anyone that would stick their fingers into your back/stomach/whatever to "dig out" an infection like that? I'm calling it a hoax in the interest of remaining skeptical. Is there a medical professional on the forum that could lend some insight here? There's not much that can turn my stomach, but this managed to do so!
11. @tavoz - He still works at NY Adorned, I suggest calling the shop and inquiring there.
12. I know someone with a tattoo of the number of the beast on their head. It seems every time they have something good going for them it seems it all comes crashing down, or ending not so well. I feel similarly with @ironchef's originally stated sentiments regarding religious figures on the back, even though I'm not particular to religion it doesn't jive/feel right to me. I'm apprehensive of written statements, for similar reasons to the "mark of the beast" tattoo, it would feel like a trap for me (aside from the fact I don't think they make for particularly creative tattoos.)
13. I feel like this is saying something akin to, "I know I'd be the most awesome chef in the world, better than Ferran Adria, if only someone would let me into 3 Michelin Star kitchen and teach me how to use the tools. I know how to boil water and make toast, so I know I'll be awesome."
14. I think that Mike on Munewari Minutes discussed this a bit, and provided links: Munewari Minutes September 2011 posts. That's all I've got.
15. I have a swing arm lamp that I use similar to this one: Daylight Combo Lamp - BLICK art materials I use a large frosted floodlight as the center bulb (full-spectrum, at the maximum wattage since I like lots and lots of light when I work.) Sometimes I'll use a second swing-arm lamp as well, but generally speaking that's only for night-time use. Don't have much glare with the right angles/distance of the lamp. I think a curtain/shade/blind would be a great solution.
16. The admins can take it down if they want, won't bother me. Couldn't help but share my fury.
17. Welcome! So happy to see more NYC people here too!
18. We already have staph on our skin, perhaps the Aquaphor/benpathen/petroleum jelly traps it in the body, and if in a weakened immune system, turns into a full on infection? Dirty hands/contaminated cream would be another culprit!
19. I am slightly infuriated about the "I want it for free" or "it should be for free" mentality - nothing is for free. I suppose if you are okay with getting "meh" or crappy tattoos then by all means, get the tattoo you deserve at one of his parties. There's no way I'd ever expect or want anyone to work for free - creative/artist, craftsman, or otherwise. If you want a tattoo oh so badly, what is the problem with saving up for it, taking on extra jobs, selling stuff you no longer use/want/need in order to afford getting the tattoo? You'll have it for the rest of your life - there's no harm in waiting. As far as he's concerned... seems rather self-deprecating/disrespectful to be offering your art for free like that - without a charity, fundraiser, or some type of barter system to hasten the exchange of energy. This is the second thing today that's been a "it's all about me", "I want it for free" that I've had to deal with today. Must be the weather...
