  1. Thanks! I found some reasonable, but grotty and old, handmade needle lace. Along the line s of this. I think we're going with something based on some of those samples for the cuff on this first arm but something like the bracelet is still in the running for the other arm, when the time comes.
  2. One cool little fucker by the looks of it.
  3. What Cat said, also some antihistamine and ibroprofen will make you a lot more comfortable.

    Hey all!

Welcome. A panther head is always A Good Thing.
  5. Curiouser and curiouser. I'm trying to wrestle my way through „Das blaue Weib“ und andere Zirkusfrauen. Theoretische Aspekte von Tätowierungen unter besonderer Berücksichtigung von „Tätowierten Damen“ in Zirkus und Schaubuden untersucht am Beispiel der Sammlung Walther Schönfeldd. Interesting task for a non german speaker. This is in there: Subtitled: Christian Warlichs Werbekarte mit drei Rückenansichten. Ohne Datum. Die Frau links zeigt die Tätowierte Dame Lady Viola, Most Beautiful Lady in The World Now, my German isn't fab but I think it says: Christian Warlichs work card with 3 back views. No date. The woman on the left is tattooed lady Lady Viola, Most Beautiful Lady in The World. Now, I happen to know Viola (aka Ethel Vangi) was tattooed by Frank Graf. Here's a back view of her and it does seem to clearly match. and another So, what's all that about then? - - - Updated - - - Oh, sorry, das blaue wieb is another alias for Djita Salome (born Genoveva Forst), already had photos a plenty of her here but I still haven't worked out if she's one of his works.
  6. Great stuff, thank you! So, should I link other stuff (if I'm lucky enough find any) about Herr Warlich here or just quietly pop it in one of my many folders?
  7. Fantastic, thank you very much. I'll have a good read as soon as my rampaging children permit some concentration.
  8. @kylegrey Oh you are an absolute star! Massive thanks! I've been after the German connection for an age but the fucking nazis made it impossible to find out anything without names to work from. I know it's cheeky to ask but if you know more about German artists would you be kind enough to share it here? http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/general-tattoo-discussion/4527-circus-tattooing-charlie-wagner-et-al-germany-connection-anyone.html - - - Updated - - - Erm, oh. Please understand I'm not calling the German people nazis, was referring to the actual nazis.
  9. No, actually, I think you're right. Anyone else think this looks like the same backdrop? Here: Charlie Wagner & ... Charlie Wagner & Trixie Richardson (the spit of Urma Thurman here, or not?) Charlie Wagner & ... It's easy to forget that Wagner did do some phenomenal botanical stuff (like the thistle on Painless Jack Tyron's left bicep, for example) - because his work is often more densely packed than George Burchett's it can be harder to see.
  10. Here's some necrosquidarms to keep you all going
  11. hey @Gregor look where google took me again - Stunning vintage photographs of early C20th tattoo artists | Mail Online. Most odd!
  12. yy, it does look reasonably American, I agree. particularly the back. But, the botanical work (phenomenal, check the hops between the eagle piece and flags on the chest) and butterfly wings / fairy girls are a lot like Edith Burchett wears. I've seen American looking flash of his too. Beautiful whoever did it, would love to know. Edith Burchett flash from "King of Tattooists; The Life and Work of George Burchett"
  13. Ooh, lovely! @clatattooing A couple more Bert Grimm 'cause I love him so 1918 - - - Updated - - - Oh, and does anyone know anything about these photos? Found them uncredited on line but they look maybe Burchett-y to my untrained eye. Pretty sure they're the back nad front of the same man - - - Updated - - - Ah, he was here already all nicely coloured in: Was WRT the fab suggestion that Captain Elvy should be the new standard of male beauty, which would be Very Nice Indeed. Although, as a Laydee I'd vote for Painless Jack Tyron any day. Am a bit of a Prof. Wagner groupie though mind :o.
  14. Just had my first right on your age limit <polishes halo> But, in seriousness, I'm not sure. Freedom of expression and all that. Youthful mistakes are important lessons, well often anyway. Where I am the legal age is 14. Yes, 14. Not sure any reputable place would actually do it, but still. Can't help wondering if, like with drinking, the higher the age limit the more bad and fucked up stuff happens. How's about an unavoidable 6 month cooling off period under x age? Goodness knows:rolleyes: - - - Updated - - - Fuck! NO! it's 12 here. 12 - 16 tattoos and piercings allowed with a parent or legal guardian present. 12 - 16 no tattoos on neck, hands, face, wrists. No genital piercings. No nipple piercings for girls. Over 16, all allowed. Here but in Dutch
  15. Welcome and wow. Just wow! Can we see your arms too?
  16. Hell yes @Gregor, no Diana, no feckless benefit scroungers, what's teh world coming to!
  17. Thanks @Gregor ! Great resolution on those photos. I'm ashamed to admit that as a british person living elsewhere I read the DM sometimes to remind me why I left, so I'd seen it :o There's no excuse though really is there!
  18. My two main references: Jean Furella Carroll - Charlie Wagner Edith Burchett - wife of George Burchett (Oh, was trying to add these to the end of my previous post - sorry about that!)
  19. Another great thread I don't know how I didn't find before. Brilliant, thanks to all who've posted but especially @shaneenholm, of course. I'm just at the very, very start of working towards a suit inspired largely by the work of Charlie Wagner and George Burchett. Had had absolutely no idea that Charlie Wagner worked totally freehand!
  20. Oh, seem to have a good few of more of Stella Grassman as tattooed by Deafy Grassman than I thought. Artoria (Anne Gibbons) by Charles "red" Gibbons too. - - - Updated - - - Oh, crikey, Lady Viola by Frank Graf! How could I forget her, she's utterly lovely. A good few of her, this is the best but not enough leg leg - note that those little 'flowers' on her thigh are actually portraits. Charlie Chaplin in clearest in the photo.
  21. What a great thread! Can't believe I've only just found it! Some of the unnamed tattooed ladies I can help with, I think. The others I have to go back for - didn't show the photos in my multi-quote attempt... So much fascinating stuff - can't possibly thank everyone individually - this post shall be way to long as it is :o But, yes. She's one of the few I've not been able to track down a name for. The whole look and feel of the photo suggests she might be a private individual rather than a circus girl - the setting looks rather aristocratic to me. No other photos of her to be found either, also reasonably unusual. Tell me about it! <grr> Huzzah! I've been trying to find out her name for an age - she's one of my references so felt a bit of a prat for not knowing. Another shot of her here: Oh that's fascinating. Thanks for sharing! I found these online, so you've probably seen them already. Still nice to look at though. http://earwigbiscuits.tumblr.com/image/1203712082 A painting: Edith by George Burchett, c.1900. Oil on canvas on board (Collection of Lyle Tuttle) http://earwigbiscuits.tumblr.com/image/1203732354 Tattoo flash by George Burchett, c.1900 (Collection of Lyle Tuttle) I have a sneaky suspicion that Madiah Surith was tattooed by him, no proof at all though! Her work is a lot like Edith's though. I really love the spiderweb flash. Just my bag. - - - Updated - - - Madiah Surith - - - Updated - - - Oh heck, the tread didn't seen quite so long while I was reading it. I remember Maud Wagner (wife of Gus Wagner) being linked twice but not named. All I know is that Gus taught her to tattoo (in trade for a date, they say) and that she was also an aerialist and contortionist in a circus. Here she is: Other than that, if any one is interested, I have a good few tattooed ladies with names saved that I can post up. Not so much success on finding out who tattooed them though, I'm afraid. I've do have a good series of Jean Furella Carroll, tattooed by Charlie Wagner, taken a several points in her life. Just stuff from online but I've not found it in one place yet.
