I'm sure ultimately people would leave the final production up to the artist, but it never hurts to get multiple opinions from people, and the internet is a great place to do that.
It also could just be that the planning phase of getting a tattoo is exciting. Maybe people just want like minded people to talk about it with. I am in that phase right now and am surrounded by friends and family that have no interest in tattoos and most actually have a negative opinion about it. There is literally no one to share my current obsession with aside from you kind strangers.

Maybe this topic should have a more detailed explanation as to what type of tattoo advice we are allowed to ask about. The current description "Ask questions about tattoos you already have, or want to get, etc." Would lead me to believe this question was perfectly acceptable.
Or maybe you are just having a bad day?

Thanks so much! The only thing Scott went off was the illustration/drawing in my first post in this thread. I found that image on a website called Behance (?) -- not sure exactly what that site is about, I found it through an image search. Not sure if that helps, sorry!

I agree that there's a pretty significant difference, but for some people just the idea of needles can trigger a panic attack. a woman recently fainted at the shop where i work, not because she was getting tattooed, but because she was watching her friend get tattooed. she's lucky she didn't get a concussion falling and hitting her head on the floor!
phobias are irrational, so even if it doesn't make sense to us, it could be terrifying to someone else.

This was so hilarious to me that I had to actually read and submit acceptance of posting guidelines for my first post...to say that I have had some great laughs from this post!

Honestly - myself, I wouldn't recommend anyone start with their 1st tattoo on their forearm - especially where the person in question is so far from knowing what kind of profession you're going to be in 17 years (a lifetime) from now.

So last week I had a bunch of meetings and one ran late. Since uncle @Lochlan was at the house already I asked if he could pick up our 2 boys from pre-school.
Then I called the school to give them a heads up that the random totally tattooed guy was not trying to kidnap my kids. I tell the supervisor who is very sweet but a little goofy that:
Uncle loch was going to pick up the boys. He is a handsome guy covered in tattoos.
She says no problem and Loch picks up the kids.
Today at drop-off one of the teachers came up to me and said:
Remember the day the boys got picked up by their uncle....the supervisor came in and told us to expect "a handsome guy in tap-shoes" and I was listening for tap shoes

I guess I've been living in the country too long... I was thinking "what's wrong with rooster tattoos? Lots of people have them!"

If your the type of person who feels that they are not getting enough attention from people, and are not comfortable unless your impressing everyone, and are thinking of maybe getting a tattoo that will gather crowds, may I suggest a full shirt of "Where's Waldo." I guarantee you'll be an eyeball magnet. And if you want your 'new friends' to hang around a bit longer, don't include Waldo anywhere in the piece. Just keep saying "He's there, you just gotta look."
