    Had a fun day yesterday.
Mrs Civil and I have been taking n00b roller skating classes this month and had a really good one, yesterday.
Later in the day, I helped set up for roller derby and then attended the roller derby finale/championships. It was AWESOME. The grudge match between two of the teams was an epic battle. And the championships themselves were brilliant! There one team (the Pink Pistols) that usually wins most games and they did again but it wasn't a walkover...the Hula Honeys fought HARD, came oh so close to winning and ended up barely losing, 143-135...

Have you decided yet? If you do pay for the tattoo, does this mean you can choose the artist?

God damned swollen thigh. Tried wrapping it the first two nights and it made my massive thunder thigh blow up twice the size. Everyone at work keeps commenting about my nice dresses and skirts ... I cannot wait to be back in my jeans next week and look like my frumpy self!

I think it's a wonderful way to memorialize those you lost. Do you have an artist in mind? Maybe whoever could help finish it out for you?
My dad was a Marine in Vietnam, so I have a particular affinity for that branch of service.

...you get stressed thinking about what you will do when you have no empty space for new tattoos even though you still currently have plenty of space.

    Not sure which book(s), though.
Thinking I might someday get the W.A.S.T.E. horn from The Crying of Lot 49.
    Maybe something by Ray Bradbury.
Gully Foyle's tattooed tiger face from The Stars My Destination could be good...

Welcome...cool ideas, I really like the clockwork/steampunk idea.

@ johannes- Something dark with Lovecraft would be fun.
Michael Moorcock's Elric blowing the horn at the end of the world would be interesting...until the tattoo aged and it ends up looking like David Bowie playing a saxophone. Cheesy fantasy tattoo, whoo!
I feel like Gaiman's stuff would lend itself well to tattooing. The flying ships in stardust (catching lightning), or playing with the pantheon in American gods.
You wouldn't have enough room for an accurate Stephen King book.
    Traditional with moby dick.
Darn it! I can't wait to get my next tattoo!

I have a tattoo that is probably fairly similar to what you're thinking of:

This is Seth Wood's interpretation of the Necronomicon and it goes from my shoulder to about an inch or so above my elbow. He initially did it without the illustrations in the book, but when I was at the shop at a later date he saw it and said that it needed that little bit extra so we booked that and he put those in. I wanted the 20-sided die, the other things were his idea and freehanded in. I am especially stoked on the tiny little Baphomet. It could be covered by a quarter, total fine line madness there. Because they're so detailed, I'm not sure how well the book illustrations will age, but they're a little bonus and even when they fade and blur together they aren't going to greatly change the integrity of the tattoo.
So yeah, it can be totally workable though I think you'd need to find the right artist to be able to pull it off properly.

yeah, you're right...I know I'll get the itch again...I keep telling my husband I don't have that much more skin I'm willing to cover - and I still love him since he says "that's ok, you have good ideas. I'll let you know when you've jumped off the pier"
*disclaimer* I don't see myself getting heavily tattooed, so it matches well with what my husband finds attractive...not a "permission" issue...

    Hey!
quick intro - 30 some-odd mom to 2 preteen girls in the Boston area...
I have a few mediocre tattoos which, though I do like them, could use a bit of help. I think that only serves to emphasize how much I want go to the next level for my next (and biggest, and probably final) tattoo...
I'm planning a rib tattoo...and really want it to be awesome. I'm willing to get on whatever waitlist necessary, but it seems that the really sought after artists have to think the idea is fun and interesting to even consider taking on a new customer.
Assuming I'm willing to travel for this tattoo, how do I go about finding the right tattooist to create this for me?
I'm pretty open. The only requirement is that it incorporates ivy (since I have ivy on my inner bicep that I placed specifically so that it could visually be carried onto my ribcage when my arm is down) I love the idea of clockwork/steampunk/something old and metal and hard that the ivy can wrap around, but since I just want it to look cool and doesn't have to *mean* anything, I'm open to suggestion.
So glad to be here! Awesome amounts of information...looking forward to becoming part of the community

When I met my (now EX) husband I already had a tattoo and he didn't have any. He decided to get one but didn't want me to get anymore as he didn't really like them on women
We have now split up and I have recently started dating again and had a brief fling with an old friend who has lots of tattoos. Tattooed people are more interesting naked ;)

Finally got all the springs changed on my old Beetle. It's 3.5 inches lower in the front now. I had help from a neighbor in exchange for a few cold beers and me whipping up a couple of pizzas on my grill.

My wife finished her bachelors degree about a month ago and when she was done, we quickly went and got 2 pair of roller skates and a decent Trek bike to match mine. There's a LONG walking/biking/skating trail near us that we use a lot.
Today, we went to a skating class. We've both skated off and on for years but decided we'd take a few classes to build some real skills. It was GREAT!
Plan for the next year: I boost my skills and find a better job, we go to England (and I visit the Triumph motorcycle plant and join the Bristol Tattoo Club) and then she starts on her library degree...
