  1. Where are you going diving ? Are you planning another session between now and the trip ? Maybe reschedule it to after the trip to be safe.
  2. It was nice to see the judges talk about this during the show and do something about it by eliminating 2 people this week and flat out saying there are only a few artists that are doing well.
  3. What style is your artist ? Any concerns she/he will not have issues with your design or subject ? I can see waiting for a particular artist if there is something very unique about their style and designs.
  4. Ah, FINALLY ! This box is just right.
  5. Wow, 2yrs waiting list is a long time. A lot can happen in 2 yrs. Do artists with that long a wait list take big deposits ? In addition to the quality of the tattoo, I imagine there is some kind of special originality in the design for people to wait so long.
  6. Will have to listen after work. What did they talk about ?
  7. This box is better, but still, TOO SMALL !!!
  8. Your tattoo is coming out great so far. The pain will be worth it. The outline on my octopus is done. In the itchy, burning, peeling, phase of healing. Second session for the pattern and shading in 3 weeks.
  9. THIS BOX IS TOO SMALL !!!
  10. Looks great so far. Will be nice to see it progress.
  11. I think the general guidelines for using derm is to wait a few hours or more before applying to allow fluids to drain and if fluids do build up, to remove, wash, dry and apply a new derm.
  12. Man, I don't know what it is, but there is something about Jondix work that separates him. I know there are others that do that style very well, but for me, Jondix is it.
  13. Letting people get bad tattoos on TV cannot be good for the tattoo industry or the long term life/credibility of the show. I know it creates drama and possible short term ratings, but the show is called Ink Masters. Casting low skilled, inexperienced or ill tattoo artists, will eventually kill the show. But maybe producers don't care about what happens that far down the road. Maybe they are just looking towards this seasons or this months ratings.
  14. No worries. I'm not into that style. Just using it as an example. Like you say, if I did like that style, I would research the term and print references to show the artist. There is so much information available on the internet. I like to research, but it can get a little overwhelming. Some kind of beginners guideline like this might be helpful to those researching their 1st tattoo.
  15. I'm a newbie. I found the chart useful. I'm 48, got my 1st tattoo 5 months ago. Had no idea what was possible with tattoos. Had never heard of terms like bio mechanical, trash polka, realism, dot work, etc.. Am I now going to go around speaking the lingo like I know what I'm talking about ? No. But IMHO, the chart can give new people a start on understanding all the different styles. This board is incredibly useful and full of people willing to share their knowledge. I'm thankful my silly questions get answered politely. If I had seen this chart at the beginning, it would have saved me a lot of time researching posts about terms and styles I did not understand.
  16. Being new to tattoos, I like this. Not necessarily to help me decide what I want, but to see the different styles of tattoos and the understand the terms being used by people more experienced. Trash Polka for example. If I wanted something like that, I now know what that style is called and can research Trash Polka tattoos and artists that do that style.
  17. Not that is right, but many people still have negative opinions on tattoos. Sometimes it does not matter what the written rules or policies are. Glass ceilings, company politics, unexplained career obstacles, conservative opinions, all still exist.
  18. Getting excited. April is going to be a fun month. Octopus on shoulder scheduled with Yoni Zilber Yoni Zilber | Tattooing & Tibetan Art by Yoni Zilber Consult for a lady head scheduled with Anderson Luna Saved ♣ Tattoo Consult for a skull scheduled with Daniel Trocchio tattoos | Daniel Trocchio
  19. When I settle on a realism piece I want, I'll be going to Darwin at Last Rites. Instagram
  20. NYC has so many good artists it's difficult to choose. The guys at Last Rites have a lot of really good realism in their portfolios. I see a lot of traditional work on Three Kings Instagram, but they have artists on staff doing other styles too. I'm new to tattoos and I like researching portfolios. In addition to color vs black & grey, artists here seem to focus on a particular style and even within that style, some artists do certain subjects very well and surprisingly other subjects I don't like. Tattoos of faces for example. Maybe I just have unique tastes with women's faces. Since you like the artists wolf tattoo and it is similar to what you want, seems like you've already made a good choice.
  21. Tipping is a tricky subject. Different customs, different recommended %, flat $ amounts, artists home studio, artist is an employee at a shop, high profile shop in a high rent area, etc.. I don't know the specifics, but I imagine the artist does not keep the full hourly rate. Some of it is going to the shop. In NYC, hourly rates typically start at $200/hr. and go higher for many known artists. The high rate is not just because of the quality of the artist. The shop is paying high rent. 25% on $200 + /hr. is a lot.
  22. At Three Kings for b&g how about Dan Albrigo and Dan Trocchio ?
  23. I think many people don't have a goal of insulting people, but it happens during their conversation. The problem is, even if it's not their goal, they know they are insulting people and they just don't care.
