  1. The closer it gets to "I should tell them now" the more worried I get. I'm worried mostly about my nan because I love her very much, and it will make her upset. I don't want to upset my nan! I have a full sleeve, it's a pretty shocking thing to show people for the first time :/

  2. I had the same situation, a go between. And when I finally met my artist, what the reception guy had told her was completely different to what I'd told him. So yeah, make sure the artist has all of the information direct.

  3. Love this thread! Interesting to hear how tattoos have changed people's perceptions of their body. When I was considering my first tattoo I wanted it on a part of my body that I liked. I'm not obese but I am overweight, and have always hated my upper arms in particular. Anyway, next thing I know, I'm getting a full sleeve... and to my surprise, I view my body in such a different way. My upper arms haven't seen the light of day in around 10 years, well now I get them out all of the time. And not to show off my tattoo, I love both my arms now, even my none tattooed one. I don't know what it is and I certainly wasn't expecting it, but it's totally liberating. My sleeve isn't even finished!

  4. Okay, this is just a first pass - nothing is done except maybe the sea snake but there are no highlights or shadows for him yet either. On the right, hidden are two unfinished clownfish in an anemone. He'll keep laying things out to get the whole design before he goes back to finish each part completely. Next up will be some fish and coral on the right, and in the middle will be the deep blue with some shadowed critters in the distance. Kinda frustrating that nothing will be finished until everything is finished at the last minute!

FYI - This is a sea scene made from a number of pictures I've taken while diving. The sea snake I chased all over the bottom trying to get a close-up of him, only later to find out how poisonous he is! Oops! And I just love my eels!

So happy to finally sea (hur) this. It's absolutely beautiful.

  5. Ha! I took the survey and was totally baffled by that one...and the how many do you have upper arm ___ lower arm ___. When it's a sleeve it's just 1...but...I had one already that became in corporated in one sleeve and 2 that became incorporated in the other sleeve...so is that 2 and 3? Or 1 and 1? OH THE MATH, IT'S HURTING MY BRAIN! I only teach kindergarten, we don't go into these types of mathematical dilemmas. ;)

Ha. Sounds like a maths question from a text book "if Lisa has one tattoo on her back that was covered up with a new tattoo and Peter has 2 tattoos on his arm that were incorporated into a sleeve, how many tattoos does Felix have?"

  6. LOL that's what I'm doing, including overnight stuff if I find I can't drive home after (I couldn't the first session). Don't forget to add appropriate battery chargers! I'm going to call ahead and see if they have a microwave - I'd like to bring a mug and bags of tea to keep the core temp up.

Bugger. And here I was thinking that would just turn up with a snickers and a bottle of water. Better rethink my plan.

  7. Congratulations - it's a beautiful piece of art!!! I've got a week and a day to go till the needle goes in - getting very excited :-)

    xccx

Thanks. I really love it. Already used the "because I like magical horses" line on people asking "why that?"

You've not much waiting now! Looking forward to seeing the results! I'm excited for you.

  8. That's looking really good so far. It's always amazing to see people jump in to such large pieces for their first tattoo. I think it takes a lot of guts to do that. My first tattoos were small and able to be hidden by clothing. Now I've got more visible tatts than not lol. I'm getting some larger pieces done now. I've put quite a large deposit down with my new artist and am going for at least two more appointments. Anyway, good luck with the rest of the piece. Looks like you've chosen a great artist.

Thanks! I was only going to get something 'medium sized' but it escalated quickly. Mostly because I did my research and wanted to give the artist enough space to create something great. And I'm glad I did. I like to do things properly.

I've kind of fallen in love with the line work as it is, I suppose this happens to a lot of people?

I'm thinking of having a break after the line work is finished anyway for various reasons, which will give me time to enjoy it as it is for a bit and then when I get the colour, it will be like getting a new tattoo.

Booked in for 8 hours next time :/

I seriously can't stand the itching at the moment though. Argh.

  9. I asked the same question of my artist, too, as a newbie... Even if an artist can't estimate, I wish I had gotten at least a rough rough rough estimate, even like, "This will be at least 50 hours" or something like that.

I was booked in for three sessions straight off the bat, which did shock me a little at the time (I'm a complete newbie)

After the first session I did ask how long was left (sorry artist, i didn't know any better) and they suggested I book a few more sessions on top of what I'd already booked. Naive I know but my budget couldn't accommodate it. And I thought I could get it finished in the time I had booked in as my artist is moving cities in the summer.

Not a problem really, I'm just going to ask to get it to a point then I'll take a trip to finish it later in the year.

I suppose an idea would have lessened the shock and put me in the right mindset from the beginning. Especially with time constraints on having the artist in my city.
