When would you say the plainskin term ceases to be relevant for any individual tattooed person? Is it the first professional tattoo? I've heard some pretty whacky stuff from tattooed people, but they were mostly tattooed by scratchers and the like. I've even been guilty of some ignorance about tattoos, and I have nine of them, but I think once someone gets the general notion of a good tattoo down, the ignorance is mostly about things that are kept as trade secrets and such.

Going to the convention early tomorrow with my lady. Won't be getting tattooed, but I hope to see some familiar faces. If any of you out of towners need anything in particular, within reasonable price, send me a pm. Also, anyone going tomorrow, pm me for a link up.

It's sad because we all know, here and amongst close friends, that this is a tightly knit community, and that that feeds what we do as a culture. It's sad that most people are too reckless to understand the structure.

I have found that it's tiring hating people with bad tattoos. They usually don't want to listen to advice about tattoos either, so I rarely talk to people about good tattoos. A Tattooer from AZ comes to my hometown and tattoos a lot of the locals. They are all about her, and some of them even know that she does bad tattoos, but not many of them realize that there are so many great tattooers 20 miles away in SF. People get the tattoos that they deserve.

I only have tattoos in areas that can be covered at this point. I'm waiting to get them in visible spots until I know without a doubt that it won't make big life decisions too difficult. It's nice not having to get stares from people. Even though I do dress in flannels and Levi's, which might tip people off.

Thought about it, but other plans were made. Still have some time, but I am looking for a job at the moment, so money takes precedence.

That's awesome @exume Myke Chambers seems like a great guy by all accounts. My girl just had her consultation with Henry Lewis for a banner and script under her existing sugar skull back piece that she got from him a few years ago.

Invited my lady as well. We'll probably be the least tattooed people there, hope you all don't mind.

@motsimus I'm really diggin that panther head. Cat really see the other pieces, since I'm on my phone, but I'm sure they're great as well.

Do you happen to have a photo of your Steve Byrne tattoo? I'd love to see it; he does some of my favorite tattoos. I've heard great things about the book, and yes, Hector does amazing tattoos. I'm thinking maybe a rose of no man's land, or a leopard/panther/tiger head. Whatever it is, I'm sure I'll be stunned by it.

@funkykingston I posted a travel blog of my trip to NYC in the blog posts last year. I'm not much of a story teller, but it might be worth the read. As far as upcoming tattoos go, I talked with Hector Fong yesterday about some work. He is bringing in the Legends book to the shop on Wednesday, and maybe even some of his own drawings. Stoked to get some more work in, since it's been a few months since my last tattoo. Will most likely be getting the actual tattoo in a few weeks, seeing as I am going to be in Denver/Vegas for a seven days starting next Monday, and I don't want to deal with having a healing tattoo while vacationing.
