2500 year old Siberian mummy with tattoos

Recommended Posts

Inked up mummy news article.

You guys should really check out the actual news article. It's a lot of information and pictures where they recreate what they think the body looked like. It's a Siberian woman's body they discovered, with arm and finger tattoos, who they speculate was a healer or storyteller and . She was buried with 6 other men who were also tattooed. In Egyptian society they say that tattoos were a sign of social status. The more tattoos the longer you had lived and the higher in status you were. Looking at the tattoos I find it funny that these 2500 year old mummies had better tattoos than a lot of people I see out here on the street in modern day. I guess good taste really is timeless.

    • Who knows! It hurt a lot though, so I'm not sure if I want to do it again. This piece took me about 6 hours of tattooing plus one hour consult/aftercare. I'm super happy with it! (I hope pictures are okay in this thread, though it looks more crisp IRL)
    • You have more of a chance of F***ing it up than making it better if you start monkeying around with it. Go see a really good artist to get some ideas of what to add around it. There's nothing wrong with that tattoo.
    • I'm healing a back of calf, about half in the ditch right now myself. Thin, tender skin. I don't see anything that looks like an infection.
