  1. Shannon - your replies make zero sense here. Just because I choose not to get my head or soles tattooed doesn't mean I or anyone is judging someone who does. Also, just because a tattooer doesn't want to preform a certain tattoo that doesn't make them any less of a tattooer or person. In fact, I would be inclined to say if you have no problem with doing things like tattooing a 16 year olds hands, that would make you in my eyes less of a tattooer. This is a subject that is very personal and no one should be judging anyone on what part of their body they will or won't tattoo. And for the record, the guy I said I worked with who wouldn't tattoo hands and faces owns his shop and has zero problem making a living without doing tattoos he doesn't feel right about.
  2. holy shit I never saw this thread before. The flaming pentagram asshole is amazing.
  3. My dude James Buie did this on my brother about 3 years ago at TCB Tattoo in Toronto and i'm sure i don't need to say this but he did NOT do the misfits skull.
  4. Also, the journalist is a retard too.. It's not three blondes it's two blonds and a brunette in the back seat. Stupidity and bad driving transcend hair colour and social status hahaha
  5. I meant 'you've' in a more general sense. If you've been around a while and it's obvious you want to learn but no one is willing to teach you, you've probably either given them a reason not to or not a good enough reason to teach you. And again thats directed to anyone not specifically to you. It's like stewart said. It's less about the quality of your sketchbook and more about proving you have the dedication and desire to learn and showing that if you do learn you'll respect tattooing.
  6. Retards who don't know how to drive shouldn't be allowed to have crazy cars no matter how rich they are!
  7. Thank god someone finally asked for an opinion of a good tattooer! Go get yourself a tattoo Wedge!

  9. If you've been getting heavily tattooed, and practicing drawing and painting and no one will apprentice you, there's probably a good reason.
  10. she has a portrait of Oliver on her leg too.. right by her vagina. I'm sure that's awesome for dudes she's fucking to look at. Maybe she got it lasered
  11. Sorry! posted something in the wrong spot! moderator - please delete if you can
  12. Sometimes the reason one can't get anyone to apprentice them is because they are a moron. I'm sure there are a few guys who stated out self taught that are good now, but I bet even they at some point met someone who helped them out even if it wasn't called an apprenticeship. I think you can read as many book as you want (and it's good to do so) but you still need the hands on practice that only comes from someone else showing and teaching you the little tricks that would other wise take you years to stumble upon. For a non-tattoo example. I started out as a self taught seamstress/embroiderer but when I started seeking instruction from others who were ahead of me my skills advanced in leaps and bounds compared to the rate of improvement when I was going off books and internet alone. I learned in a one weekend class what would normally have taken me months to figure out on my own. It's great if someone has that internal desire and drive to do something but everyone can benefit from the wisdom of those who came before them.
  13. Richard has some of the best tattoos ever. That thing is awesome! I wish I had a picture of the rose/turtle painting he did but it's at home in FL.
  14. Petri, I just came here to say pretty much the same thing! As a collector myself, I loved seeing his home and and record store. Next time I'm in NY I'm going to stop by for sure!
  15. First off - I'm not a tattooer. Secondly - I never said anyone deserved a tattoo more than anyone else. The reason there's so many shitty shops out there ruining people's skin by putting horrible work on them is because all these people think tattoos are cool now so there's a demand that keeps all those hacks working. You can blame it on the t.v. shows making it popular but the bottom line is everyone and their grandma is getting tattoos done now. I don't think people who just think it's a cool fashion thing to do because they saw it on t.v. should be getting tattoos. It has nothing to do with not deserving it, it has to do with the fact that most of them haven't really thought it through. The younger ones especially don't really get that it's there forever. That it will effect your life, especially if it's visible with clothes on. If you want to spend your day tattooing 16 year old girls who can't sit still and start bawling and freaking out over a 15 minute kanji then that's your business, but I know a lot of people who will be glad when that's over. Yes, I know every tattooer has started making more and more money since these people started getting tattooed but sometimes the $50 or $60 you get out of a kanji isn't worth the hour and half battle it takes to do what should be a 30 minute process. Like I said, there will always be people who get tattooed (including some who's parents have tattoos). For me and many I know it will be nice when every single asshole with a t.v. set stops coming in the shop to see who has the cheapest price for their totally untattooable idea that they refuse to waver from. When I can go to the beach without long sleeve and pants and not have 10 people tell me all about their friend who has a tattoo I will be happy.

Oh shit! I forgot about Ricky Gervais show... hahahahhaa best podcast EVER. I think my ex-room mate must have been less hilarious relative of Carl Pilkington because she was the biggest moron I've ever met. I've been listening to the cast so many times just thinking, man him and Jenna woulda have some amazing conversations together
  17. I don't know a lot of the antique places in Toronto, when I lived there I couldn't really afford to feed my habit. I used to do mainly the larger thrift stores like value village. There's a couple of neat places on Queen that sell antiques but they aren't really deal finding places. I've heard there's a big antique market somewhere near downtown, I'll find out from the guy who was talking about it and maybe next time I'm in town me you and Katie can go check it out.

  19. HAHAHAHA that's hilarious! I know a lot of people have said it before and I agree - The next generation or two will likely (hopefully) think tattoos are stupid and for old people like their parents and grandparents. It'll put the hundreds of fake tattooers out of business and bring the art back home I hope. There's always going to be people who are getting tattooed but it will be nice to not have shitty soccer mom and her 16 year old coming to get tattoos.
  20. How about I've got 5 kids all by different men and am on welfare barbie? Cause that seems to be the actual fate of most of the teeny bopper sluts I knew when I was that age. I can kind of understand a doll with tattoos. Only because there's so many heavily tattooed parents these days. I'm sure if I had a 5 year old she'd probably wonder why mommy and daddy are covered in tattoos and would maybe want to put them on her doll or herself. I have a very young cousin (around 8 now i think) and she has always been very interested in tattoos, since before she could even speak. Her parents don't have tattoos so I don't even know where she got it from. I can remember her being just old enough to crawl and already trying to pick and rub my tattoos to see what it was.
  21. Just wanted to let everyone know that the talented Richard Stell will be tattoo along with (my dude!) James Buie of Inksmith and Rogers tattoo will be holding down the first at Elm Street Tattoo in Dallas this week. If you don't know Richard or James and you're in the area you should stop by for some awesome art! They will be doing walk ins all week. I'm not sure if they are accepting appointments but you can contact the shop by calling (214) 653-1392 but it's probably best to just stop by and see them. The shop is located in the deep vellum neighbourhood at 2811 Elm Street. Here's an example of a Richard tattoo and here's one by James p.s. i'm not sure if Richard's lady still posts here but Jen if you do maybe you can give some more info on Richard's availability
