Many of you know this already from Instagram, but on Saturday, @DJDeepFried and I (and our little one) drove 7 hours up to San Rafael so I could get my Psychedelic Stories tattoo from Paul Dobleman (Paul Dobleman: Psychedelic Stories Contest 2013 | TAM Blog). You guys did not lie, Spider Murphy's is one of the greatest places on earth. I got to meet a few of the other guys and they were all really cool. Paul was fun to talk to...just a great experience overall. I love the way the tattoo came out. I have now traveled for a tattoo!

Spent a wonderful 8 hours at Memoir tonight w/Spencer Briggs. Getting tattooed is fun! This third picture only shows some of the new additions...

Was at Memoir 6pm-2am last night with Spencer...a few hours on upper arm, a few hours on elbow. Fun times, added another lotus! We still have at least 1 more session to go...

Got in another 5 hours on my tiger last night @Memoir w/Spencer. He put on a thicker outline, a bunch of shading, and white in the whiskers & eyes. Next session (in 3 weeks) he's going to add a couple of mandalas to it.

I hate to preach, but please don't buy animals, adopt. If you don't know why, look up puppy mills and see the horrific conditions most of these dogs you buy are bred in. 2.7 million animals are killed in shelters every year, many of them pure breds. There just is no excuse for buying an animal.
I hate to be a downer, but I do a lot of rescue work and every time someone buys an animal, they make some greeder wealthy and one more shelter animal is killed.

OK, getting off of soap box.

Here's our girl Dixie.  Never when I've thought about what kind of dog we might like to own, did a bloodhound ever cross the radar.  We wanted to adopt (we're big on rescuing instead of buying) a gentle dog that would be good with the grandkids.  Wanted a golden retriever or lab, but was getting frustrated as so many want to adopt them.  A google search led us to bloodhounds and then to a rescue based in Ontario Canada.  You just couldn't ask for a sillier, happier family dog.  Not a day goes by that we don't chuckle about something she does or 'tells' us.

I never said it makes anyone evil to buy instead of adopt. Most of the people I know who have bought just don't know about the problem. As far as knowing what you get from a breeder, where do you think the 'problem' pure bred dogs sitting in shelters come from?
I encourage everyone to do their own research. We've been sold a bill of goods by the AKC about the 'superiority' of pure bred dogs. Research shows that purebreds have more behavioral and health issues than mutts.

I'll accept your non-apology, I guess. I don't get the joke. Jews are cheap? Ha-ha, that's a good one. Never heard that before.
The fact that you're Jewish – does that make it okay? I don't know.
Maybe I'm easily offended. But no, I don't like antisemitism or racism or homophobia or any of that shit. And yes, I'll call it out when I see it – even on the internet and especially this forum because I don't want to see it fucked up by a bunch of trolls. And before you start in about the "PC police" or "safe spaces" or any of that shit... It's called trying not to be asshole when you can avoid it. A good policy to live by I think.

In terms of the people staring, or judging us just for having tattoos, I know for me one thing I am learning is NOT to have a chip on my shoulder...like, expecting people to stare and judge.
I had two situations recently that made me realize--I'm the one judging them by thinking they are judging me!
I saw an old lady at Trader Joe's. She was looking at me real funny and I was wearing a short sleeve shirt. I assumed she didn't like my tattoos. To my surprise she came right up to me, reached out her hand to lightly touch my arm, smiled and said, "Oh my! I thought that was a real baby at first, hahaha!" I was holding my daughter's doll in my arm the way you would hold a real infant and I guess it just freaked the lady out at first and then she was laughing about it. I started laughing and said to myself, man you just judged that lady as being uptight about tattoos and she wasn't AT ALL!
Then like a week after that, yet another old lady was shopping at Albertson's supermarket. She was taking up a lot of room in the aisle, her cart was in the middle and she was on one side, not leaving me much room to get by. I tried to squeeze through, she glanced up and had a grumpy expression on her face and I immediately jumped to, "She's disgusted by my tattoos." No sooner did I think that when her face softened into a big smile and she said, "Oh look at me taking up the whole aisle, like I'm the only one in the store!" I laughed and told her not to worry about it as she pulled her cart out of my way. I walked away thinking what is the matter with me? Why do I keep judging these old ladies?
It must be because of my mom. She is the only one who has ever actually said anything to my face about her disdain for tattoos. I need to get over it. Older ladies looking conservative, wearing mom-jeans, whatever, looking your way, looking grouchy....they don't necessarily hate tattoos! Some are curious, some think they are cool.
I definitely receive many more compliments than disses, and seem to run into friendly people wherever I go. I'm trying to embrace it, and not expect people to not like them any more. If they don't like them, whatever, that's their problem, but I shouldn't expect them to not like them.

You just reminded me of one of my favorite images from a set of Spider Murphy flash. Love that griffin/lady at the bottom right. Of course, you won't be getting a lady face on yours, but griffins are cool. I was at Spider Murphy's only once and the person before me got a griffin from Paul Dobelman. It was awesome. If I were to get a griffin, I would have to go back there.
