  1. Damn! Quite the sleeve you got going on there, John! Welcome to LST, hope you find plenty to interest you and enjoy your stay.
  2. You know how I feel about their work, so I won't beat an expired draft animal, but don't rule out Dave McNair or Mike Dalton-both incredible talents.

Welcome to the forum, WW...while you look forward to seeing some good work here, I'll look forward to seeing some of yours posted here. Enjoy!
  7. Hajime mashite! Hope you find much useful information here, and enjoy your membership.
  8. Wrecking Balm Review Reviews of the most popular stuff around here, and they are all pretty consistently negative. There's another bit about topical removal in the "Remove-Cover-up" thread. If you don't want to laser, or have a high pain tolerance and a small piece, salt and a wet washcloth are all you need!
  9. Many moons ago, I lived in a Lubavitcher 'hood in Chicago...I'd come out of the building, and they'd scatter immediately. Amazingly enough, I saw a tattoo parlor in Skokie, in the same all-kosher strip mall. Worlds of difference between the different flavors.
  10. People typically only stare at me when they think I won't notice. But I'm probably a LOT uglier than the OP! Forget the bible quotes, forget all the defense, someone said YOUR body, right? That's the ticket. YOUR body. Anyone doesn't like it, or wants to be in your face behind some two-thousand year-old book of fables, tell em to piss-off. Since it IS YOUR BODY, noone but you has the right to decide what goes into it or onto it. As far as religious opposition to tattoos, AFAIK, you will get it most strongly from observant jews and muslims, then the fundie types. Blow 'em off-who cares? The majority of the stare-ers? The men are drooling and the women are jealous. Enjoy your tattoo and plan your next one!
  11. I'm guessing that means you like it?! Glad you found your way here, and looking forward to seeing your posts-welcome!
  12. So much easier here in the Chi...left or right, take your pick! Five-point stars or six-point stars....pretty easy to spot.
  13. Thanks, Carnal, like I said, I'm not real up on West Coast stuff, but thought the sombreros y senoritas were NF type. We see em up here sometimes, they can't decide whether to get all busted left or right!
  14. I'm guessing he didn't take that route because when you're still in the mix, that's seen as a pretty major diss. And yeah, if he wasn't about sumpin, someone would pull his coat. Course, I'm only going on what little I know about the scene in Chi, rumors and such, ya understand!
  15. Abslolutely true. Never seen anyone with that type of work that wasn't hooked-up some kinda way...and it wasn't just a "13", it's a "Barrio 13" piece. Also has what looks to be Nuestra Familia stuff on his right arm, and "Killas" on his left. You play, you pay. I covered a lot of old stuff to keep jobs.
  16. Agreed. Dave McNair is def another tattooist that doesn't get mentioned enough, and has chops most can only wish for!
  17. Yeah, guess I'll hold off on that "Smile Now, Cry Later" piece I was gonna get put on my cheekbones!
  18. Here's a card from my file, from like 1978...check out the slogan on it.
  19. Nick is, IMHO, the best traditional American style tattooist out there. Mario's work is most excellent, slightly different feel to it, but I'd recommend either of them in a hearbeat. Course, if you go to CTC, it might pay you to take a look at Mike Dalton's work. Man been there something like 30 years, quiet, steady, tattoos like a mofo. Hard to beat-or equal-that shop for talent, history, and surroundings. One thing I like about Nick working is that he's working. Oh, he's friendly, personable, all of that, but I mean, forget about smoke breaks and all that shit, unless you request it, it's needles in for the whole time, str8-up. The last work he did on me, he stopped after he did all the blackwork, maybe an hour and a half, two hours in, for a tem minute break to let me stretch and hit the head, after that it was another couple hours non-stop. Some artists, especially the smokers, man, they can make a 4 hour tattoo take 6 hours!

Yeah, Homer is a Chicago variant of homie, at least in some circles. Anyhow, you're typing, so ya ain't dead, and I don't think Matt Groenig lets any of his characters off their leash long enough to be out in public.
  21. Tattoos Derail Some Immigrants' Green Cards - WSJ.com Hector Villalobos, who is seeking a green card, was asked by a U.S. official whether some of his tattoos are linked to gangs, his lawyers said. In December, Hector Villalobos traveled from Colorado to his native Mexico for an interview, part of his application for U.S. permanent residency. Mr. Villalobos expected to be gone a couple of months to complete the process. Seven months later, U.S. consular officers haven't allowed the 37-year-old handyman to return home to his wife and three children. The problem: tattoos—some associated with violent Mexican gangs—on Mr. Villalobos's body. (cont'd)
