If he is capable of doing detailed work he should be capable if doing detailed roses. If you are unsure just ask him. Most of these concerns can be discussed with your tattooer. You dont need a middle man.
I would also advise you not to be concerned about it being exactly like the photo given. Every artist is different and does things differently. If he does good work he will do a good tattoo on you. Take it from someone with allot of tattoos. My first few tattoos I was so concerned about it being exactly like the photo I showed them, and they didnt turn out as well because of that. They would have looked better if I would have just let them do their thing. Now I just let the tattooer do whatever they want. Trust your tattooer. They've been doing this longer than youve wanted to be tattooed. You are over thinking it.

And thanks for the welcome, sighthound.  Below is my new hawk (pic taken right after it was done; three weeks healed now). It's a tribute to my Dad who died in 1990 and loved red-tailed hawks.  Kind of nice to have him "with" me permanently.

I have two holes in each lobe and one helix piercing.  Had my nose done a few years ago and loved it but to be honest it got caught on one too many shirts/towels/washcloths and I just had enough of it and took it out.  Hole healed up just fine.
I've had three tattoos and the helix healing was worse than any of them by far.  The pain and tenderness went on forever.  No infection or anything, just pain.  I'd love to get another one, but I don't think I want to deal with the annoyance for months again.
Impressed with you folks who have industrials and septums done.  I think I'd pass out.

I love that hawk! We had a red-tailed hawk hanging around our farm today. We have them here often. What a wonderful way to remember your Dad.

I had my inner wrist done (about 3" x 3" dragonfly with script above) and it wasn't nearly as painful as I thought it would be.  Ankle was much worse.  Good luck.

Just signed up after lurking a while.  I have three tattoos (ankle, wrist, and upper back).  Have enjoyed reading your stories and expertise.  Looking forward to learning and hanging out more .

Friends are (insert appropriate word/phrase here such as God's, Buddah's, Life's, etc) way of apologizing for your family. @Gingerninja - you totally rock it. I love your confidence and your perspective.
 
I'm not sure if I have mentioned this anywhere before - and I do so now only for perspective - but I was very close to the point of impact of the plane that hit the Pentagon on 9/11. Several times that day I stared death in the eyes and won. Any time you can find yourself included in a Smithsonian Museum exhibition...and be alive to see it...is a positive outcome.That experience, and other close calls I had while in the Army, gave me a totally new perspective on life, on my priorities and on my approach to others. I don't let others control me - but I also am more attune to other points of view. I may not agree, but I am much more tolerant and open to considering those viewpoints. I can't make everyone happy...but I CAN make myself happy. Life is about choices - we make them every day. Not all are right or good but as long as we are willing to accept the consequences of those choices then, it seems to me, that it is a correct way to go.

So my first tattoo is on my right upper arm. 
Would it be better to add my second and third tattoos on the same arm, or would it be better to do them on my other (left) upper arm?
