  1. Lost my dad a few weeks ago. Now my 82 year old mom is heading for major open-heart surgery in 3 weeks.

Gonna be another rough few months ahead for me and my family.

Bummer, sorry about your dad, nothing pretty about getting old. Lost my dad in late 2013, he was 96 but lived a full life and got to see his grand kids. How's your mom doing? Better I hope.

My brother's inlaws are fading fast. His MIL had a series of strokes but is now home and doing somewhat better. His FIL is experiencing dementia. It wasn't that long ago, late 2013 and they were at my niece's wedding and they were doing fine. Scary what the span of a few years brings.

  2. I prefer the company of animals to humans. I have one cat, one dog, one hamster.

The cat is the one constant in my life. Always glad to see me (when she's hungry) and good company. She follows me around like a dog. Everyone says she's more dog than cat.

  3. I came from a rough background, drinking & drugs (don't ask what I did for a living between 1977 and 1981), fixing cars for a living, motorcycles, street racing and ultimately stock cars. So a lot of people I knew had tattoos and it was totally accepted. I was the first with big pieces done. With all I went through with some really close calls, I still give my wife (RIP) credit for saving my life.

Now I'm 61, 6' tall, 255 lbs and am in the gym 3 days most weeks, I'm kind of hard to miss. As I said earlier, people now look the other way and give me lots of room. Partly which is fine since I pretty much keep to myself when I'm out and about. It does bug me how quickly others judge, I'm actually pretty nice most of the time.

  4. A tough dynamic when one partner is out of synch with the other over something. My wife always sighed and went along with it, now she's gone I'm so far off the leash it gets scary at times. No new tattoo work this year so far, contemplating a shoulder piece though. Last year I had a lot of work done.

  5. I had a tattoo done in 1979, snake and a rose cover up. By 2009 it was hard to tell what it was since it was dark to start with. Lines do get wider, the sun is a real killer for tattoos. I now use a better sunscreen, my latest and greatest work is on the under side of my upper arms. I know one artist, very fair skinned who avoids the sun, her older work looks as fresh as it was new.

  6. I pass out with low blood pressure brought on by dehydration, vomiting, etc. not the other way around. I also pass out from intense pain (like a cortisone shot in my heal that hit a nerve), but didn't during tattoos or nipple piercing. I didn't consider either an intense pain. Hydrate, fuel up, and don't panic, plus warn the artist - you'll be fine.

Shot in the heel... the only time I ever cursed out a doctor.. good thing I was the only patient there.

With the back injury I try to keep it under 3 hours and bring a neck pillow with me. Comfort is important too.

  7. Ugh, I've seen a bunch of these. Portraits are so hard that I wouldn't go to just anyone to do them.

See, they want to be cheap and go to scratchers, it's what they get. :D

A portrait of a cat might be safe with a good artist... but people, I can only think of a few artists I would trust.

  8. I had a traumatic injury early last year, and while recovering, I went in for a sternum piece. It was so weird that I felt NO pain. I think the connections in my brain were screwed up. I hurried and got 3 tattoos quite painlessly. Unfortunately... It didn't last.. Lol

I was involved in a bad-enough car accident in 2011 with a back injury. I had a chiropractor say that your body only lets you feel just so much pain at any given time. This is why car accident injuries might take time to fully surface. This is what probably happened with you.,.. you had enough pain going on at the time.
