Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I was kind of embarrassed when reading this topic! My regret brought me here only a short while ago...though granted I'm not new to tattoos. There was a 12 year gap between now and the last tattoo I got. Back then I wasn't so much into social media or interested in looking up other people's tattoos. Nowadays I'm much more active online and constantly looking up fantastic tattoos and reading comments from other people (both positive and negative). It can be so F***ing toxic. And in hindsight, it's definitely had an impact on me subconsciously.
I've finally gotten over the panic though, in part because some of you were super nice and gave me support, whether you know it or not. But also because I remember the reason I got inked in the first place. It wasn't for anyone else's gratification, but solely my own. F*** anyone else (and it feels great to finally say that).

Right! Especially when they go on and on about deeper meanings... people don't seem to realize that there don't HAVE to be these super deep meanings behind tattoos, haha!
I haven't posted my first tattoo anywhere yet, no! But here's a picture of it:

It's not even that special or anything. Frankly, in terms of technique and placement and the like, I like the second one more. But the whole geometric/ornamental generally does pretty well with people I've found. I think for most it's just the right amount of, say, elegance and coolness while not necessarily being too out there yet.
It's also two years old by now so the lines definitely aren't what they used to be LOL, and especially with how admittedly poorly I protect it from sun it could very much benefit from a touch-up but I do still like it.... especially for a first tattoo which I, for all intents and purposes, wasn't nearly informed enough on.
People will always ask why the orca, and while there is a story behind this one I'm not about to tell any stranger that. "You see, it all started 15 years ago, when my father........"  😂 I just tell them it's my favorite animal, which isn't a lie, but even then they'll go on about "but why?"
Also, I'd have many a person ask what animal it is. I've heard whale, dolphin (not entirely wrong) and even shark. 😂😂
At least with your piece it's very clear what it is! Maybe that also has something to do with the whole getting people to comment on it... when it isn't entirely clear, people might be more predisposed to ask/comment.
At any rate, I would definitely not consider folks not commenting on your tattoo as proof of them not liking it. I really don't think it works that way! Your tattoo is awesome and you should be proud of it! 🙂
(That, and of course the placement of the tattoo does matter a lot too, haha).

    thanks for the feedback!
I totally agree. And yes to the social anxiety haha I think when people just didn’t really say anything about it the slow and creeping fear of ‘oh my god. Do have a bad tattoo? Is that why nobody says anything?’ Starts to creep in. But I worry what other people think too much just generally.

I DO like it! I liked it when I got it. And I still do now. Which is the important part. And I guess with that since I like it I want to talk to people about it! I want share what I like, ya know?

but hey I guess that’s why I’m here haha

I was being too kind. haha
As a Queen fan that film is a lot to swallow. Now when I'm in conversation about my beloved band someone will almost always bring up the film...and then the same speech will unfold of me correcting the movie's many glaring lies. I mean, the movie makes Freddie out to be an asshole (granted he wasn't a saint). It's downright despicable. I simply can't believe that's what Roger and Brian let happen. The band always had their differences but in the end they were a family. It's just weird, the whole thing, and I've often struggled to come to terms with it.

I think it looks nice and it means a lot to you. I can understand the uneasiness you feel because people don't bring it up in conversation like "Oh wow, that's new! When did you get that? What does it mean?" etc...But like others have said it was for you and only you. F*** everybody else.
And to be honest, I haven't really asked too many people about their own tattoos. One time when I did it turned out to be a sore subject. My neighbor regrets his tattoo and encouraged me to NEVER get ink done. It's too permanent. Lol
When I got my freshest tattoo I posted it on Facebook and got all sorts of comments, but in real life not so much. Particularly with my own immediate family where tattoos are generally frowned upon. Meh. It was difficult to swallow at first (because I think we all want to be accepted) but when it gets right down to it the ink is something personal. As long as you like it, that's all that should matter. I think it's too easy to get trapped into thinking others need to be impressed, especially if you're prone to social anxiety. *cough* me *cough* Lol

I have a neo traditional Freddie Mercury portrait on my left calf - still fresh in the pic pinched from the artist's instagram. And my left arm is a collection of random tattoos that no one else would associate with music, but for me each is a representation of a favourite song of mine (so far they are all Queen songs...).

I don't even think it is a good film about a rock band. it's soooooo bad.

Did you get it for yourself or for other people? Doesn't matter what anyone thinks. It's a nice tattoo. Enjoy it and get more tattoos.

and I don't give a F*** what other people say or think about my tattoos.
if somebody wants to talk about tattoos, then I like to do that,if nobody says anything about my tattoos, then that's fine too.

Same here. I felt bad because I thought it portrayed Freddie in too far a negative light (granted he wasn't a saint). They made it like it was him vs the band. In reality, all four of them were, as Freddie once put it, "four cocks fighting." And two years of not touring because Freddie went solo? Bullshit. Even when Freddie went solo he was still working with the band, and even Roger came to help his "friend" with the solo work. I could go on and on with my disappointment. These comments are only the tip of the iceberg. I really wanted a film that represented why the band means so much to so many people (and a little truth wouldn't hurt!). Instead, we got the exact opposite.

I hated the film, and back when it came out, I spent ages outlining everything that was wrong with it because so many people who know nothing about Freddie and Queen loved it. In simple terms, it was shite. It didn't deserve a single Oscar. Most people have terrible taste in films for the most part, so I shouldn't have been surprised.

Yeah, I have heard that as well. Tattoo laser removal definitely isn't something you'd want to do, I'd say it's one of the absolute last things you'd wanna do, actually. From what I've heard (no direct experience), the pain of the laser just doesn't compare to tattoo pain as it's on a whole 'nother level, it takes multiple sessions for the tattoo to really fade and because of how incredibly tough it is on your skin you need an interval of at least one month in-between sessions. That, and the thousands of dollars it can add up to...
My artist told me that she has advised customers to get one or two laser sessions done before cover-ups only a very few handful of times because of all the above cons to lasering, and even with them she suggested no more than one or two sessions just to extremely dark tattoos to lighten the slightest bit so it would be easier to then cover up - to get tattoo lines to fade "wholly" not infrequently takes years and like others already said, would still be visible anyway. 😅

I’m assuming. Definitely not an artist myself but I know scar tissue is permanent and once it’s there, there’s never erasing it. I’ve heard laser also hurts more than having the tattoo done itself sooo I’m not sure I’d personally be keen on that 😂

You'll find several historical threads here regarding lasering. It shouldn't leave actual scar tissue and tattooing over it isn't a problem - it's actually the goal for most lasering. That being said, it's NO fun and quite expensive. Cover options are usually the better route depending on what you're starting with.

This is why I'm glad I joined this community. I definitely have much to learn. While I was aware you can't outright erase the tattoo, I didn't think it would make the process even harder for the tattoo artist. I'm both humbled and thankful!

Don't get anymore tattoos for a while. You can't obsess over details and worry about what people think. Seriously. Just wait a while before you do anything else.
I love Freddie Mercury, and the records they created when he was still around. I am not a fan of the other three guys and their botching of his memory, but I love Freddie.

No, you can't "erase" tattoos. That's not how it works.

As mentioned, even removing it, you’d never start from scratch unfortunately, there would be scar tissue etc.. in fact I could be wrong but I think it’d be even harder for the tattoo artist to work with.

Sorry, but that is really awful. Frankly, if you are on an internet forum looking for suggestions, I think I'd find another artist. A really good artist should be able to look at that and make multiple suggestions for fixing it.
