  1. Sounds like you're on the right track. The antibiotics should take care of any infection. If it was infected, there would probably be some discharge and/or a fever. In any case, the last photo looks better than the third. Let your body heal itself, but if it gets worse, go back to the doctor.
  2. Because the last thread was locked... This is for you @Pugilist:
  3. You make a great point, and one that the OP may not realize b/c he only has a few tattoos: how f-ing annoying it is to have to answer that question for the zillionth time.
  4. Some thoughts on "the thread that would not die": -- I like your Batman tattoo just fine. Didn't see the Joker face until you pointed it out, but okay. -- The Matrix thing, on the other hand, is a terrible tattoo idea because NO ONE will know what it is, and it's visually dull. -- One of the Star Wars crests would go nicely with what you have because of the general shape -- especially if you added some other element: the Death Star, Millennium Falcon, etc. (An actual falcon would be better than anything else you've proposed.) -- A good portrait artist CAN make faces look right -- particularly if it's non-human (e.g., Yoda, Chewbacca). You just have to find the right one. -- Your Faith tattoo looks solid enough, but there's nothing outstanding about it. Whether it's special or meaningful to you is irrelevant to 99.9% of this board. Take a look at the "What makes a good tattoo?" thread. What matters to us are tattoos that are visually interesting and well executed -- regardless of their personal significance for the simple fact that WE AREN'T YOU. -- That Boba Fett father & son is the most kickass Star Wars tattoo I've ever seen.
  5. But chocolate is the best flavor of ice cream just like dragons are the best tattoo.
  6. Awesome! Can't wait to watch it. Thanks, @Lance! You should be ashamed, @JordanMTB! It's pretty great, and the catalog is worth picking up for sure.
  7. The Wabori book is excellent if a little pricey. I've borrowed Bushido from the local library (twice!) I wonder if Jill Mandelbaum and Jill Bonny are one in the same. Also the Perseverance catalog is a steal at 20 bucks from the JANM website -- and the exhibit is amazing if you can get out to LA!
  8. I talked to Brian at the Perseverance opening about getting tattooed by him while he's guesting in LA but couldn't follow up cos the money in the tattoo fund is already allocated for the next sesh on my arm. One tattoo at a time is the rule I made up for myself. I really wanted one of his beautiful white-tipped peonies and when I look on IG today what do you think I see? So jel.
  9. What is this styleforum now? But seriously, you can go the Army-Navy/thrift store/ebay route. If you want the real deal, it's Sterlingwear, Schott, or Fidelity, which is what I have. (Not quilted on the inside which is good for Cali.) They come in suit sizes (i.e. 42, 40, etc.) -- very trim, no tailor necessary. Real Melton wool is very rough. J. Crew & Ralph Lauren make a more refined version, but pricier.
  10. Don't know. They said Q&A. Depends on the quality of the audience and their questions, I guess.
  11. Did anyone happen to go to the Chris Brand/Brian Kaneko lecture at the JANM yesterday (8/23)? @Lance, I'm looking at you. I couldn't quite rally myself to get down there, but I'm curious to know what was said.
  12. Before starting a business venture it's important to do your market research. If I understand correctly, the basic concept is for a user to submit his/her tattoo idea to various shops in the area via the app, have them draw up a sketch, and bid on the project? The fatal flaw with this concept is IT DOESN'T WORK THIS WAY. If you'd done your research, you would have known this and saved yourself a lot of time and effort. No reputable artist is going to waste his/her time by drawing up a sketch for a total stranger via some app no one's ever heard of and especially not without compensation. The way it works is this: pick an artist, do a consult, pay your deposit, come back, approve the design, get a tattoo. Or: walk into a shop, pick some flash from the wall or a book, get a tattoo. (Or some variation thereof if you have your own idea/sketch.)* Your app in no way improves upon a tried-and-true business model that works perfectly as it is – and has for years and years and years. You're welcome. Love, LST *That ideally is not a Google Image on your iPhone of a feather turning into birds or two hearts forming an infinity symbol – not that there's anything wrong with that.
  13. Not my thing but that's a killer tattoo. Another LST success story!
  14. That's a rad tattoo. Fusion can be cool. Google Chris Brand's “108 Heroes of Los Angeles.” Can't see how anyone would find that offensive.
  15. There's no right or wrong answer, but it's tricky given our country's less than hospitable history with its indigenous peoples. In my mind, an Indian girl head isn't so much a Native-American image like a thunderbird as it is American traditional. For some, an overly sexualized image like a nekkid Indian girl pinup could be seen as offensive whereas a beautiful face would not. There's a line to be crossed but it's not always so clear where that line is. For example, I find this: (Cleveland Indians mascot) to be way more offensive than this (Chicago Blackhawks):
  16. "Pre-offended" -- that's a good one. Phony internet outrage is our new national pastime. (Sorry, baseball.)
  17. Since @exmember88 won't be reading this, I guess I can say whatever I want. HA-HA-HA, YOU SURE DO GOT A FUNNY NAME! IT'S LIKE SOOOOO LONG. AND THAT MIDDLE NAME... EVERYONE KNOWS PANTHERS ARE WAY COOLER THAN LYNXES! AND The lynx is considered a national animal in the Republic of Macedonia[32][33] and is displayed on the reverse of the 5 denar coin. WTF IS A DENAR?! THAT'S NOT EVEN REAL AMERICAN MONEY!!! MAN, I SURE DO LOVE BULLYING PEOPLE ON THE INTERNETS! IT MAKES ME FEEL SO GOOD!
  18. Gee @exmember88 (snappy handle BTW)! Pretty sure @SeeSea was just trying to help. If you just wanted to bitch about something you can keep it in the privacy of your home. Why bother posting on a public forum if you didn't want a response? Discourse is what we do here. And seeing as she's contributed so much good stuff to this forum and you're relatively new, I'm gonna give her the benefit of the doubt. Get over yourself.
  19. My favorite ones on there are also the most conventional: the heart and the skull. Getting a full or half sleeve is radical enough without having to reinvent the style. Part of the reason I got traditionalish Japanese style tattoos is because those images have stood the test of time for well over 100 years. Getting a koi or a dragon is downright conservative these days.
  20. Half sad, half glad. I could not take no more of that.
  21. @Kristen R Holbrook, let me try to put this another way: YOU DON'T GET IT. Your arguments don't make sense because you don't know what you're talking about. Feel free to take a look around this site and edumacate yourself a little bit about the art and culture of tattooing. Because honestly the more you say the more you insult some of the real professionals here and aspiring pros who are doing this the right way -- and annoy the rest of us who actually have tattoos and like tattoos and pay for tattoos from real tattooers. Otherwise you're just a parasite on the industry.
