else got a reaction from Delicious in Needed posts before starting threads
Hey! I just noticed that I'm a "regular" here now... ex-lurker no more!!
What if people had to have at least 10 posts and... at least 3(?) or 5(?) "liked posts" before they could start a thread... certainly no one would "like" one of the obviously spammy posts that people have been rushing through to get to 10. It might force people to be more thoughtful...

Hey there everyone. My name is Scott and I'm 39 years old, but soon to be the big 4-0. I have been a fan of tattoos for a long time but never got one until 5 days ago. My wife jokes with me and says it's a mid-life crisis;) I love looking at everyone's new tattoos and hope to learn a lot from you all. I already have a feeling that one tattoo is not going to be enough as I've already began looking for other ideas. I know people usually like to see what you've got, so I've posted a couple of pics in my gallery. It's from flash by Derek Ward, and it was done by Todd Lamere from Body Art & Tattoo in Plattsburgh, NY.

If you start posting here, chances are that you're going to eventually end up thinking that getting a full body suit is a totally normal and rational thing to do. Not saying that's a problem, just saying. Welcome to LST.

It's true! I'm so thrilled for folks on here when they post up something awesome - almost as thrilled as I'd be if I'd gotten something new myself...

So many tattoos on people I've never met that I'm excited for!
Really looking forward to hearing how the start of @ian 's back went too.
I guess about a week and a half until the next session on my arm, really looking forward to that because while I love what I have there now, I want to see where this tattoo is going next.

Hey, I'M a tattoo predator...I see a tattoo I like, I'm all over that sucker. Or it's all over me, depending on how you view it. Either way, that tattoo never has a chance!

Really a breath of fresh air! No "hot" women on the cover (I have the internet, there's porn), articles will have actual depth (it HAS depth, just not any technical stuff) and all the artist will actually be good. And you can really sit down with it and read it. Not skim it while taking a shit (unless you have a laptop. Or one of those other gadgets that youngsters have..). Quality!
How come it hasn't been done before...

@Lochlan - thanks for your reply. Like I said, I am totally stumped when I try to think about how to solve this problem too, which is why I threw it out there -I feel like some other posters might have some good ideas!
@oldfartart I totally get what you're saying, but that's kind of a point - it's not a bad thing if it takes a little while to get to your ten posts. It's not a bad thing to say nothing if you have nothing to contribute, rather than searching for things to say just for the sake of saying them (although I feel like it would be easy to get to one's ten posts just commenting on how rad everyone's work is! Don't need to be a pro to appreciate!) The point of this kind of policy is to force people to listen before they speak. LST wants to see itself as a community, i.e. as a place where people exchange ideas and get to know one another and learn from each other, and so people signing up because they have a specific question they want to ask about THEIR tattoos and not respecting that they are expected to participate, meaningfully, first, sucks. If we all just used the board to ask our questions, no matter how good, without engaging with others in more sustained ways, then this place would be really self-serving, noisy and not a community at all.
I am a big fan, in general, of slowing down in life. Everything about western culture right now is based on speed - we want things now, we get things now, we hate to wait. It alters how we relate to each other and while sometimes the speed with which we function is really amazing, it can also have its downsides. And so I really appreciate that the administrators of this board have been thoughtful about how to try and slow people down a bit, and hope we can come up with functional ways to make that work even better.

yeah it's been on my radar lately too and we can't come up with a good solution to try and keep the "spam" down. If you have some ideas pls share as we're always open. I must say though is the people who are doing it tend not to stick around long and their need to contribute for their own selfish need of ten shows the quality of user they may be....it really is not that hard to contribute ten productive post if someone cares enough as we've had users recently do this as well.
Long story short stuck between a rock and a hard spot
EDIT: We are going to have users chasing the ten post irresponsibly so when we see this we may just want to jump in and say something like, "if you're trying to just get to your ten post so you can start your own thread without contributing productively to the community then chances are you're not gonna get a productive answer to your thread when you do reach that ten."

I guess one of the issues I have is that I'm a new member with less that 10 posts. Since I'm not a spammer, it will take me a little bit to get to 10 posts. Since I just got my first tattoo 5 days ago, I don't really know a lot about tattooing so it's hard to interject into a conversation when you're new and don't really know much of anything. I do enjoy reading the boards though and there is a lot of good knowledge to glean from here. I can understand why the rule is put in place, but it does make it difficult for a new member to ask a legit question they may have.

Thank you, @G.Uristti, for offering your professional opinion. One of my favorite things about LST is that we have professional tattooers who offer their insights. It sets this community apart.

not a huge deal but if the blue was lightened with white it makes sense that that happened. if it really bothers you then have the person who did the tattoo go over it and use a truer blue with less white. and it will all work out

Getting tattooed by Jordan at Frith Street on Saturday, all being well. An old back problem has flared up again, I'm in fucking agony at the moment.
A couple of days taking it easy and I should be ok, fingers crossed.

That rules and ties together WAY better than you would expect it to. Stating the obvious here, but Kore Flatmo's tattoos are so smooth.
