1. Yup, that's the one. I really like that style and think it would work on my arm. And if I could trust me I'd go to CA for this but I think I can find someone more locally doing that similar style.
2. I like Sarah Schor's work, she's definitely on my list. I actually saw an owl head on this site done by Stefan Johnsson which is pretty much what I'm looking for with some minor changes. Thanks again for the replies.
3. Thanks for all the replies. I'm pretty familiar with local tattoo artists but I'm always open for more suggestions. I'm in CT but always willing to travel a couple of hours if needed. Obviously NY is loaded with good traditional style artists but not as many do the newer traditional I think. I've thought about Erick Lynch in Mass ans Justin Weatherholz in NY. I may go with an owl head but since my arms get a LOT of sun I wanted to stay away from real bright colors because I down't want them to fade. I thought about keeping darker colors and maybe some black and reds to match the german eagle above.
4. Trust me I've been looking at many pictures here and elsewhere but thank you. I just initially want to find a style that will work and that's hard for me to tell so I also appreciate Ursula's reply. I was going to do something more realistic but a friend thought that a realistic style might not go as well as something more traditional or neo traditional. Damn, there goes my care bear idea too.
5. Hi, I'm looking for suggestions as to what style of tattoo I can put on my arm to fill in the gap between my elbow and the existing eagle. I'm not sure what style wouldn't look out of place there as a random tattoo. I was thinking maybe something neo-traditional like a wolf or owl head but I want to keep to darker colors or b/g. I'm certainly not asking for someone to tell me what specific tattoo to get but more so a style or idea that would at least flow a little so I can go from there. Thank you.
6. Just saw this article about a local (CT) exhibit chronicling the history of sailors and their tattoos. Sounds interesting, something I hope to check out. Mystic Seaport: Mystic Seaport Exhibit Shows History Of American Sailors' Tattoos - CTnow
7. I admit I watched Miami and LA Ink pretty regulary because I wanted to see the finished tattoos that were done. It became increasingly difficult to sit through the drama, though, just to see a finished tattoo. I especially liked the work of Hendricks and Garver and then Cory Miller, Dan Smith and Hurtado. What I don't understand is what Ami James has to do with NY Ink? For me, that's an immediate turn off.
8. I like this one, too, done by Erick Lynch at Redemption Tattoo in Cambridge, MA. I really like this guy's work. Erick lynch | Photos on Myspace
9. Not sure if this is near Rome or Venice, but you can also check out Murran Billi: Murran Tattoo - Home
10. I just saw RED, thought it was alright but overall didn't like it too much. Good cast, average movie.
11. Here in CT we've already had a blizzard and almost 80" of snow so far this winter with more predicted for Sat so I'm not feeling too bad for you in Chicago, not that you're looking for sympathy. And by the time that midwest storm reached us here in the northeast it was a real fun ice storm with numerous roof collapses. Cool pictures though.
12. Sorry, I don't feel too bad for you. We've already had almost 80" of snow so far here in CT. By the time the Chicago storm reached the northeast it was an ice storm.
13. My parents are also ultra conservative and I have a great deal of respect for them. They generally don't like tattoos but are ok with the ones I have which have meaning. I still keep the random, "meaningless" ones hidden from them and I'm in my 40's. My mom actually got choked up when I showed her my family themed tattoo which incorporates sentimental elements including actual song notes from her favorite solo she used to perform in church. The same tattoo also honors my dad's Naval service with an anchor which he likes and a heart signifying their 55 yearsof marriage.
14. I know someone that got a tattoo from Christy Brooker at Jet City. He also said it was a good convention.
15. That's interesting, my leg cramped when I was getting work done on my chest. It was really uncomfortable, the artist said it was likely nerve related.
16. Someone I know just switched to dry healing with positive results. A while back an artist suggested 100% shea butter mixed with lavender oil which I've tried and works well for me. I've also read good things about the calendula products but I wasn't sure if the beeswax would clog pores or not.
17. Sorry, I accidentally posted the same one. I want a tattoo Sorry...I accidentally posted the same video, not what I was wanting to do and thenI couldn't delete it. Shouldn't I be able to delete my own post?
18. No offense taken at all but thanks. I don't want to get into too deep of a political discussion but everyone is of course entitled to their opinions. I think in general many individuals and networks have become too polarized and that doesn't help the country. I agree and disagree with policies and opinions from both sides and I don't feel just because I disagree with someone it makes them right or wrong. In my opinion the mainstream media almost entirely leans to the left and I like hearing a different view from Fox, and the fact they're not afraid to challenge the views from the other side. They seem to stand alone in that department and I like that, although like everyone else they do go too far at times.
19. Other networks and talk shows offered similar criticisms of the "memorial" but that's not being discussed. Even left wingers Barbara Walters and Whoopi Goldgerg compared it to a pep rally, why isn't that being covered? And Fox News' hated Bill O'Reilly praised Obama for his speech (also unmentioned) so I find Stewart's rant politically one sided. For me, I'll watch Fox news over the other networks every day even though I don't like those morning show hosts in Stewart's piece. It seems to be a major problem for many people that Fox tends to lean right but noone wants to criticize networks like CNN and especially MSNBC for being biased to the left. It works both ways.
20. I just watched "The Town" on blu-ray the other day and thought that was a good movie.
21. My only comment is I agree with Joel's opinion about Jeff Zuck's work being immaculate and from what I've seen Ami James isn't all that great anyway..
22. I'm a little familiar with Flying Tiger, it's located in New Britain which is about 15 minutes west of Hartford and close to me. That's where Murray Sell is and I thought primarily the artists there did more western traditional work but T.C. may be different. You can also try Greenman Studio (Jon) in W. Hartford or keep an eye on Off the Map tattoo near Springfield, MA. They always have an amazing list of guest artists, someone there may be right also but I'm not sure they have any trad. Japanese artists coming soon. Here's a few links, hope it helps. Flying Tiger Tattoo Green Man Tattoo Studio Off the Map Tattoo : - Massachusetts Tattoo Studio ...And it's perfectly fine to ask the artists if they're interested in the project but obviously don't just choose based on who's interested. Bigjoe was correct about seeing who you click with and who may seem more interested than another.
23. Where abouts in CT are you, I'm there too. Although there are some pretty good artists in our small state, you're really not going to find many who do good Japanese style tattoos. Before I read your entire post and just saw the title of the thread my first thought was Julio at Hope. He is very good and very versatile and would do a great job I feel. I've had work done by Tim Harris at Hope, they're all really good artists surrounding Joe Capo. I'm not positive, but Julio may only open his appointment book a few times a year so getting a spot might not be easy but in CT he's your best bet. You could always go to NY if you want where there are many options.
24. So far my chest tattoo hurt the most. Not only did I feel the pain in the chest but for some reason it caused cramping in my leg. After a while I was having a hard time sitting still because I had to keep flexing and stretching my leg. The artist thought it was probably nerve related. I almost felt like a damn dog with someone scratching the chest and the leg subsequently twitching.
