He just had two spots open on Saturday here in Portland, but you had to describe your tattoo in two words or less. The got swooped up quick, but should be fun to see what he is working on this weekend.
I probably won't get my hopes up but his guest spot was just announced and I gave him a couple of ideas so what the hell.

I sent an email to Russ Abbott since I just noticed he's doing a rare guest spot in my area. It wouldn't be until next year but we'll see what happens. I really like his work but he's very selective.

I guess it depends on who you consider "the industry". Winning Inkmasters or Best Ink probably won't get you invited to State Of Grace or Ink N Iron, but could definitely get you a gig as token tattooer celebrity in a lesser known show or traveling convention and stay pretty busy and make some good money. The problem is the shelf life for a reality tv star is pretty short, and when people forget who you are and you can't just be the dude from the tattoo show, then it comes down to if you put on good tattoos.
I witnessed this first hand in August at a small, first time convention in Hartford. Some crazy looking artist named Amy Nicoletto from LA Ink was highly promoted and swarmed at the convention. She's not even a very good artist but she actually shared top artist billing with Stefano Alcantara due to her celebrity status from being on TV. People were all around her trying to book time with her and take her picture, she must have made some good money that weekend. Even my girlfriend was starstruck and didn't understand why I didn't give a damn about her.
And I think tonight is the first episode of Ink Master season 2. It comes on at the same time as Sons of Anarchy...Hmmm, I wonder which one I'll watch.

Bon Jovi makes me puke.

They're supposed to improve grip and prevent elbow/shoulder pain. And yes, strengthen forearms. I have small hands, too. :)
Thanks, I read up on them a little more. I'll probably give them a shot for the hell of it although they're not cheap. My forearms are pretty good so that's not really a concern, I actually don't want my forearms to become disproportionately big. But it also sounds as if they can help blast the upper arm, too, which is always good as well as having grip and stabilizing effects as @Brock Varty mentioned. I ride motorcycles and shoot handguns so a strong grip is beneficial to those activities also.

I don't have an elaborate home system but I'm still using my old Nikko amp and Bozak floor speakers bought in the 80's, and they still sound good.

I just bought some Fat Gripz. Wow! They make a huge difference. I've been able to maintain the same weights on flat and incline bench, but they are a bitch on overhead press. I also tried curls for the first time in years. They are quite a different exercise with Fat Gripz. They're supposed to alleviate shoulder and elbow pain, which I hope turns out to be true.
What is the main purpose of the fat grips? I was looking at their website and still wasn't sure of the benefits. It sounds like they're effective in grip strength and forearm building but what else? I don't have very big hands so I'd be concerned with certain exercises.

Going to finally be tattooed by Dana Helmuth........next saturday at read street....we've talked about this for a few years so i am pretty stoked!
I'm actually not too familiar with Dana's work although I've definitely heard his name. He's doing a guest spot near me too in the northeast soon I think. I'll have to look him up, is he known for anything in particular?

Welcome man, and yeah those seats are cool as hell.

We're keeping an eye on said poster. :)
He posted the same shit on 2 other forums I think. At least one I know of for sure.

We're all taking our own paths, and she has chosen a tough one - but it's hers.
and in case you are . . . Don't feel guilty.
I agree. And here's wishing you and your family the best, good luck.

Maybe I'm wrong but I wonder if Murray Sell is adequately recognized?

I bought one of these to care for my back piece when my girlfriend wasn't around to help...

Welcome to the forum, David. Nice to have you here and we look forward to your contributions. And... I love your work.

Probably similar to @Dan S I'm a little older so I have basically no idea who most of the bands mentioned in this thread are. I grew up listening to metal bands such as Zeppelin, AC/DC, Sabbath, Priest, Iron Maiden, Dio, Nugent and stuff like that. I've seen all of those bands (except Zep) live many times as well as old Kiss, Aerosmith, Twisted Sister, etc. I'm old school and still listen to my classic rock/metal CD's. I've had a long time obsession with Ted Nugent and have seen his amazing live show many times, there's nothing like seeing a crazy dude swinging from a rope and shooting flaming arrows on stage. I really can't get into the newer metal at all, mainly due to the horrible vocals.

Even though I'm from the northeast I'm a long time Cowboys fan. Obviously I enjoyed the big win last week but it still might be a long season.
-
I don't want to divert the thread but I'm in CT and I heard there were some pretty crazy storms in NY today, including a tornado. Since we have quite a few NY'ers here I just want to say I hope everyone is ok.

This might be a dumb question but does anyone know where I can find any old school gun related tattoo flash? I'm really into handguns and would love something like an old flintlock design or something like that. I've seen one from a Sailor Jerry sheet but I'd love to find more to see if there's anything else I like that might become a tattoo. I've seen a lot of very cool revolver and flintlock tattoos but I wonder what's out there regarding flash designs. Obviously I can just use a regular picture of a pistol as reference but I was just curious about any flash. Thanks.

@Joe Shit (or anyone of course)...any opinion on Chris' work at Hat City? I wasn't too impressed but I might be wrong.

Even though I'm a baseball fan from the east coast, at least I know I won't be getting a NY Yankees logo anytime soon. I guess I'll also be holding off on my Arod portrait tattoo. :D
