  1. I think this is the right place to put this question. I am going to travel about 800 miles for a tattoo in April (Seattle to SF). I made my appointment over the phone and placed a deposit. I was able to be fit in for two and a half hours on the day I could be there.

I was told I could email ideas and references to the artist but I said I would just show up early and pick out flash. I have seen numerous tattoos the artist has done and all of it is beyond amazing.

My question is would it irritate the artist to simply tell him when I get there that I like daggers, skulls, snakes, roses, etc. and tell him to do whatever he wants and can finish in two and half hours? I am really looking forward to the experience of being tattooed in that shop as much as getting a badass tattoo. I also have room on both legs above the knee so size/placement shouldn't be an issue.

I've done it a couple different ways, last summer with Jess Yen,I paid a deposit & made the appt without knowing what or where I was going to get the tattoo, the only thing I told him was that I had a $3000 cap, otherwise I trusted him 100%,

and I have paid a dep & got the appt in aug of this year with an amazing artist(Phil Garcia),and I have discussed the "basics" of what I want, but he is free to do what he wants with those "basic" elements and I trust him 100% also, and I know whatever he does will be perfect,or I wouldn't be going to him.this time with Phil,I don't care how much it is.

  2. I guess I shouldn't worry about it then.

no, :) I wouldn't worry about it,IMO the majority of the "tattoo world" people don't care, half the time all our pride is out the window anyway,I spent 8 hours at the SF show with no shirt on and my pants & undies pulled down below my ass for a tattoo,I realized my inhibitions didn't matter that day !

so my point is,don't be embarrassed .most reputable people with integrity in the "tattoo world" IMO are pretty forgiving & non judging,or at least that has been my experience.

Thanks for all the encouragement. It's a bit intimidating to share. Hope you all enjoy a peek in to my mind/heart at the hands of some very talented artists. Enjoy.

  4. I saw these donkeys on the way home from work the other day, seems like kind of crappy dry place to have to live IMO,not sure how well they are fed & watered,so we bought some fresh carrots, cabbage,& apples and brought that and some water down this morning and fed them the treats,as soon as we pulled over on the other side of the street they started walking over to us,so it appears we are not the only ones who do this ! LOL very cute & very friendly.I will keep carrots with me from now on and do this again for sure.

  5. Thanks! I think I'll go with some of the longer narrow ones (25x10cms) to make up the bulk of the area and then patch it in. Can you cut them at all? Assuming the scalpel is sterile? I'm looking at roughly 60x30cms of coverage, but it is a snake so I might be able to get away with some trimming.

I promise to return with experience of my own in a few weeks!

I like the Saniderm 2 meter x 10" rolls, and I just cut them with scissors, the edge of the film doesn't touch the tattoo since you leave an inch or two border around the tattoo.

Be sure and wash it real good with a antimicrobial soap & then make sure it's totally dry before applying the film.

  6. Thanks for all the information guys, definitely got me interested to try it out on the upcoming ribs. Was that applied with the knee bent @Dan ?

I've found a great site (independenceaustralia.com) for any of the other Australians on here looking to get some, works out at about $1.20 a sheet (10x12cms) delivered. It's under wound care if you get distracted by all the incontinence aids.  eBay seemed pretty expensive for those not in the US/UK.

Anybody tried any of the other adhesive film brands, seems like there is a few.

yes it was, half way bent, like normal sitting position & that seems to work pretty good.

and that's having both knees done in summer of 2013

  7. And a lot of people on here (myself included) get "random inconsequential design"s so.... meaning isn't always everything.

that's such a good point,LA & Miami & NY Ink & Ink Masters & all the TV crap isn't what it's always about, very few of my many tattoos are not "meaningful" to me other than good art or just a cool tattoo ! not that there is anything wrong with a "meaningful tattoo",I do have a couple that are that too.

  8. Hey Guys

So i have decided to travel to the states from Australia around July/August for a couple of months possibly with another tattoo friend of mine and would love to meet a heap of you guys while I'm over there. We are planning to start in San Francisco and travel across the country to New York hitting a lot of shops on the way for walk-ins (not going with a plan). I just wanted to use this thread as a kind of home base for information for the next few months.

    Thanks LSTers

Also i will probably be doing a travel blog thing aswell.

sounds like a fun trip !
