  1. I haven't seen a thread that focuses on gender-specific advice, information-sharing and support for the wonderful ladies around here. Little gems are randomly sprinkled here-and-there within other threads. I thought it would be a nice idea to collect that type of stuff in one place. Questions like, "what do you do about wearing a bra after getting a tattoo?" and "does it really hurt more to get a tattoo the week before and during your period?" And the empowering stuff like the wonderful thread about using tattoos to feel better about your body - especially the delightful discussion of beautifying the horrendous "batwings." In addition to starting new topics here, when we find relevant nuggets of info elsewhere (I'm kicking myself for not making bookmarks of them), we can add those links here so we don't have to repeat everything or we can refer back to existing stuff. About responding to existing content: When you find good stuff elsewhere, if it's part of a well-encapsulated or dedicated thread, it would be best to reply over in that thread so content is together (and put a link here if there isn't one already). If the good stuff you find is randomly spread through a larger or unrelated thread, then include the link to the first post where the good stuff starts, and respond here so your new info doesn't get lost over in an unrelated thread. The boys are welcome, too, you know, because anything related to boobs and bras and the lack of bras surely has universal appeal, etc. - - - Updated - - - So I'll start with the period question - does it really hurt more the week of and during your period? Have you dealt with it in any special way...rather than praying to the menopause gods or demanding a hysterectomy just to get more tattoos? :D - - - Updated - - - Here's the start of a thread about bras and tattoos in the bra area: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-after-care/32-best-post-tattoo-care-page10.html#post51734
  2. Neat @Nikki Price - that really looks 3D like ink on top of scars.
  3. Ok, sorry, I've heard about this "well loved" character so I hereby RETRACT THIS QUESTION!!! (See, but I DO get props for finding what I THOUGHT was a relevant thread....right?) NO RESPONSES HERE as per @CultExciter LOL
  4. Well, I think this is close enough to an appropriate thread to steal. Ladies, do you find any truth to the "it hurts more to get tattooed during your period and the week before your period? I see this thrown about as random advice because "it's on the internet so it must be true" but is there any truth to it?
  5. Nunez doesn't seem to care. Chris Nuñez Talks Ink Masters, Tattoos, and Human Canvasses Chris Nuñez Talks Ink Masters, Tattoos, and Human Canvasses How do they get the people on the show that get tattooed? They call them human canvasses. They sign up to get free tattoos, and it's just a luck of the draw whether they get a good one or not. Personally, I'd rather pay for it than gamble on some shit that's on me forever, but we shot in Jersey, so there was no shortage of volunteers. Anybody end up with terrible tattoos? Let's just say that some contestants were weaker and they got weaned out right away. But there was some real talent on there as well, and some people got a couple thousand buck tattoos for free.
  6. Q: What happens to those people on Spike TV’s “Ink Master” who get bad tattoos on the show? Do the better people on the show fix them or are they stuck with what they’ve got? A: “The artists appear on the show with the understanding they will be presented with difficult challenges, including time constraints that may be difficult to meet,” explained Spike TV publicist. “Likewise, the Human Canvasses understand they are being tattooed in a competition setting and things can go wrong. As much as we’d like to see a great tattoo each and every time, the reality is, not everyone leaves the show happy – this is part of the construct of the show that everyone agreed to at the outset.”
  7. Yes! I've just realized that tattoos are a perfect solution to the dreaded batwings!!!
  8. I feel bad for the "canvases" when a contestant plans to slam them with a bad tattoo for strategy (geez, does anyone actually use that term outside this show?) but it's at least a story for them to say, "Yeah, I got this piece of shit from XYZ on Season 3 of Ink Masters and he was thrown off the show two episodes later." So there is that. Odd sorts of bragging rights. If they didn't get it lasered or fixed, an option is to add a banner under it that reads, "As seen on Ink Masters".
  9. Thank you for this! My entire day may be wasted watching these! Bump for the newbies.
  10. I have to agree to look elsewhere. You also have to consider ... has this guy ever done anything larger than what is featured on the website? Someone might be great at smaller tattoos but not have the creativity or artistry to design and execute a big one. $0.02
  11. Ok, a little update. I lied about the itch factor for session #3. It itches more and for a longer period of time. It's been over 2 weeks and everything has peeled and healed but I'm still itchy! There is a little Immortal Ink color "blood red" in there as very light accents on the coral. Barely anything. But no other evidence of a red sensitivity like redness or bumps, but just something I will keep in mind.
  12. This is a good point. And confusing as the times-are-a-changing. In the U.S., in situations where the individual provides the service and owns the company, tipping is even more confusing. It used to be that it was an insult to tip a business owner who served you, and this is still the case in some areas outside urban settings and for older business owners. As we move forward in time, tipping an owner has no longer become an insult, but also not expected. The individual doesn't have another business taking a cut. Moving forward to the present, the trend is moving more to tipping everyone but it's not universal yet. If you ask, you get the "not required but appreciated" line. I was raised in a more rural area so I sometimes feel uncomfortable tipping owners but now I do it more often if the service is really good. Sometimes I ask, and sometimes I am flat out told they don't accept or encourage tips. I think the old traditions are dying out and the newer generation isn't even aware that it used to be an insult. I just checked to see how out-of-date I am, and Emily Post still holds to the "no tip" advice, while Oprah (who geez, we have to admit in some ways controls this whole freaking country) says times-are-changing. I was uncomfortable with the question so I just asked my tattooer and he discouraged it for himself although that doesn't change my feeling that creating art is different from serving me food. So at a minimum, I'm firmly in the camp of showing up to the shop with baked goods.
  13. @Nikki Price - if you do, please show! There are so many interesting styles out there my head is going to explode.

I'm sure you guys have probably already seen this, but I thought it was pretty cool. Tattoo Parlor Offers 'My Little Pony' Designs Benefiting Bullied 11-Year-Old Boy
  15. I went over to that guy's website. It is annoying. Banners and graphics everywhere, getting in the way of even seeing the content. And the content is pretty lame. Hey, if I write a review of LST, will someone here give me a free tattoo?
  16. She looks great! And love the bikini :-) I think we should start a thread for hot (scratch that) ALL grandmas with tattoos. THAT should twist the panties of the wanna-be-journalists at University of Buffalo!
  17. It's the most awesome thing! Mine are 1 1/2 and 3 1/2. About a year ago, the older one saw my cat paws on my shoulder (a little memorial to my favorite little kitty - her exact prints, in the color of her paw pads, right where she used to rest her feet) and just looked at them for a minute without saying anything, then went on her way. I'm excited to see her reaction when she sees that Grandma has a WHOLE OCEAN on her back :-D
  18. So I was surfing random sites, and I found this excellent and informative article about tattoo blowouts that finally clarified for me the meaning behind these artistic tattoos. The article has several inspiring examples. Enjoy. URL: Tattoo Blowout | Tattoo Designs, Ideas, Meaning and Pictures
  19. Is there a way to change the size of an image I want to post from a URL? I've seen formatting like this elsewhere that allows you to specify a different size with the IMG tag, but it doesn't seem to work here, even if I make sure the new size maintains the same aspect ratio as the original. Thanks. http:.......[/img]
  20. I know, and I usually do. Since I resurrected a sleeping thread, maybe I should have prefaced my comments with <irony=ON><sarcasm=ON> I just though it ironic that everyone is trashing the girl for stereotypes (and she needed to be called out) but then a poster here commenting that grandmas wearing clothing to show off a tattoo are somehow incapable or unable to help raise and nurture grandchildren.
  21. Ehhhh, I found this thread looking for nice clothing/swimwear I can wear to show off a back piece I'm in the middle of getting. I am a relatively new (and younger) grandmother, currently handing out life lessons to my two granddaughters. They (or their parents) don't know the piece is in progress, and I've spent a fair amount of time thinking about how to talk to the girls about "grandma's stickers" (the oldest, 3, is putting stickers all over everyone's bodies and on my arms, face, etc.) I've got a couple months til May when the cat's out of the bag. So grandma's can't wear classy open-back dresses? Open-back swimsuits? I think I'll go get my nails done and put on my high-heeled shoes.
