  2. They live in an assisted living apartment, which is still standing, but also has no power and flooded. They were evac'd to a rehab facility in Neptune, which also has no power, still. It's going to be weeks before they can go home and we still can't get to them. They finally, today have a little generator power rationed to them, so they have a space heater in their room. They're going a bit loopy though, having not showered in a week and still wearing the same clothes. At least they're being fed, and are physically ok. Mentally, it's been tough on them, they're starting to not make much sense on the phone. Wife is going to try to get through today now that the train is running to Long Branch. - - - Updated - - - PS. Is it wrong that i was happier to see NY Adorned and Kings Ave Manhattan Facebook posts that they got power back, than my neighbors post?
  3. There are no words to describe, just glad i made it through and still have power to boot. Now we have to see about getting my wifes parents out of Asbury Park, they were evac'd and it's going to be weeks before they can go home. Not good for a couple in their late 80's.
  4. It's entertaining, if you watch it for reasons other than seeing good tattoos.
  5. Heh, i was just there last weekend. I keep going for the lobster roll but the line is always so long i say fuck it and hit something else instead. One of these days i'm gonna get that lobster!
  6. I was 40 when i got my first, and i'm glad i waited. I can only imagine what i'd have if i had started in my teens or early 20's. It feels much more sure at a later age that what you've gotten will be timeless to you, imo. (I did attempt a homemade needle and Testors ink tattoo when i was 15 thought, which didn't really work out. :P )
  7. Can i get a tattoo of myself sucking my own toes?
  8. For me, it's an unsaid policy i think. There is nothing in policy that says anything at all about tattoos or piercings, but it's a corporate office job. I've been there 26 years and although i've risen on the ladder, i've always felt like i could have been another rung or two higher if i "conformed" to the cut out model. Case in point: When i first started working there i had two piercings in my ears and very long hair. This was in the late 80's mind you. I always got favorable reviews and plenty of praise for my work, but when an opening came about at the next level, i was passed up. After i got married i decided that i needed the money to start a family and if the hair/piercings was holding me back, fuck it i'll change. If i didn't get the promotion and it turned out i was wrong about that being the reason, i could always change back. So, i cut my hair and lost the piercings. One year later, they CREATED a position for me, and was told "We see that you've made an effort and are taking your career seriously, the work itself has always been stellar". For about a dozen years i stayed like that, but i realized that i was miserable pretending to be something i'm not, so i put the piercings back in and let the hair grow back to halfway down my back (ponytailed at work). I think after all these years they've finally gotten used to it and don't even really notice anymore, but if i start filling up my arms with ink someone might think "Uh oh, there he goes again". Then again, i'm not even sure i want to get into upper management, which would be the next step. They like yes men up there, and that would be an entirely new conflict. :D
  9. I'm 46 and still wondering when would be a good time to say the hell with it and get working on my lower arms! I really really don't want to wear long sleeves in the summer.
  10. Sorry to have to say this but I've never seen enabling work. I've got 3 addicts on my wife's side of the family and the enabling is enormous. It has only made things worse. On top of that, they insist on the issues being huge secrets which prevent the rest of the family from discussing the situations and joining up to do something helpful (such as interventions). We're finally getting to the point where one of them might be addressed after 15 years. The kid is now in his 30's, still living at home with no path in life at all and has virtually destroyed the entire family by his presence there. The mother (my sis in law) is a shell of her former self, just from dealing with what goes on in the house. I wouldn't be surprised if the addict outlives her. On my side, we had two. Both were put out, with the understanding that the support (both emotionally and financially) would always be available if they sought help. Both are clean going on 10 and 12 years now.
  11. The only reason i knew about this is because my 87 yr old father in law, who lives on the boardwalk a block from the convention center, called me as soon as he saw it posted. He became fascinated with tattoos as soon my wife and I started getting them. I'm going to a pirate christmas pool party (yes, really) on Saturday, but hoping to get down there for Sunday.
  12. I can't help but stare sometimes, because i'm digging the tattoo i'm seeing. Just remember, some of the people staring at you might also be tattooed, but non-visible, and are amazed by yours. I never say anything though, it just feels rude to me, but i don't mind if someone asks about mine. Just mind your fuckin manners like ya mama taught ya! :p
  13. I've got about 500 albums, they're all 60's-70's classic rock or 80's metal.
