When's the best time to get my tattoo?

So, I guess I should start off with the fact that I've never gotten a tattoo before. I've wanted one for the longest time and I chose this month to be the month to get my first one, but I've been working ~a lot~ lately and I'm not sure how long I need to wait for it to be okay to cover it up.

I'm not looking for opinions on it; I already know I'm getting it and I also know what shop I'm going to, I just need to know when's a good time.

I want my tattoo on my toe -- I want a very small, very special symbol on my toe. It's simple. But the place I work at, close-toed shoes are mandatory, and I've been working five days a week since I started a few months ago. My question is is it okay to get it one day and wear closed-toed shoes the next day? Would I need to put a bandaid on or some other type of cover under my socks?

I like getting tattooed in the late afternoon/early evening so I can head straight to the bar after...

Kidding aside (although I'm quite serious about that), covering your fresh tattoo should be just fine.  Maybe try to get tattooed on Friday so you have the weekend to start healing/lotion-ing/following your artist's healing instructions.  Keep it clean, keep it lightly moisturized, and maybe look into Tegaderm to really protect it.

I like getting the first appointment of the day,I like a big healthy breakfast then a 11 am or 12 ish appointment time.

that way I'm refreshed with a good night's sleep and good meal and ready to go.

then yes @el twe ,it's beers directly after and relax out of the sun the rest of the day. LOL

and like @el twe also said, good idea to get it the day before your days off from work.

    • First let me say I've never seen exactly that related to tattoos. Second, I am NOT a doctor, so take any advice with a grain of salt and follow it at your own risk. I do have something like that which appears on my face from time to time. After multiple visits to the dermatologist, which didn't fix it, I finally came up with my own treatment. Whenever it flairs up, I just wipe the area down with plain rubbing alcohol three or four times a day to keep it dry. That usually works within a couple of days. Again, I'm not a doctor, but I don't think it would hurt anything for you to try that. Good Luck.
    • Hey, I have a serious problem! I got a tattoo in Manila 4 weeks ago. The artist is very well known and is one of the most renowed. 2 day after tattooing, small pimples began to form on my thight an many at the tattoo. 3 days later i had fever at night (just at night). After that, the pimpels began to spread very quickly all over the body. (back stomach etc..) I have now been to 3 doctors and everyone is at a loss. The blood work is fine and with no anomalies. Antibiotic ointment and cortisone ointment did not help. Xyzall allergy tablets did not help either. When i took cortisone tablets, 90% of the pimpels disappeared on the tattoo, but not on the other parts of the body. Now that I´am no longer taking cortisone, the pimpels on the tattoo are starting to grow back again very quick. On the other parts of the skin , the pimpels are sometimes lighter and sometimes stronger. This can be change hourly. They don´t hurt and hardy lever itch. Of course I´am afraid of a tattoo allergie. Has anyone already had this problem ? Does anyone know what that could be ? I add photos: 1) Photo directly after tattooing. 2) 2 Photos with the pimpels after a week 3) After 3 weeks while taking cortisone. 4) Photo of the body on the left.
