  1. Well last year, at my other school I would just pull my sleeves up to my elbows, so tattoos would peek out all the time. Nobody judged me on my professionalism, I had a really good rapport with the parents of my students. But, as I've said before those parents were almost all tattooed (a lot of scratcher stuff). At my new school, there are also a lot of tattooed parents, higher quality work for the most part. This is Hollywood, so things are different here. I'm sure some would judge me, but I'm just trying to gauge how many haha.... and if it would bother my boss. I kind of feel like if my boss is cool with it, so be it, I'll pull up my sleeves from time to time when it's 109 freakin' degrees outside. We are in the worst heat wave of the year right now. If you came to Hollywood, you would not get that type of avoidance! Most people would be just fine with you and wouldn't be surprised that you had a good job.
  2. The office manager at my school is an older Russian lady--super nice, motherly woman with a thick accent. I feel really comfortable with her so told her I wear long sleeves every day because I have tattoos. She didn't blink an eye and just said, "Why cover them? What is this the 1940s?" I love her. One of these days I'll tell my principal too and see if his reaction is anywhere close to that...

    Hi all

Hi! Do you have any pics of your tattoos?
  4. I don't know how they do that either with the suits. It was rather anti-climactic for me... either nobody noticed or nobody said anything. I'm surprised the kiddos didn't say anything because they tend to notice everything, my students last year would get very excited any time a tattoo peeked out. I spend part of the day sitting in a chair right in front of them while they sit on the rug, eye level with where my tattoo was showing! Maybe they are just so used to tattoos it doesn't faze them. The parent population at my new school is different. I'd say about half are tattooed, either lightly or heavily. But the other half are much more conservative looking and seem like they would be judgy. I can't even wear 3/4 length sleeves any more, just long sleeves. It's worth it though! Wait--so, have you posted your new arm tattoo and I missed it?
  5. It looks like a flower with curly lines coming out. Possibly a star gazer lily. Possibly a sea star. Looks muddy. Maybe it's a swamp creature.
  6. So far, for the first 4 weeks at my new school I have kept covered up with long pants and long sleeve shirts...even on these 90-100 degree days. I do have working A/C in my classroom so it only gets hot outside. Well, I got some cropped pants yesterday that show the bottom of the monmon cat tail and I'm going to wear them tomorrow. Yeah! Livin' on the edge!
  7. ha, I was looking for one at the same time (in another room)...this is what I came up with:
  8. Hi! You sound pretty well prepared, can't wait to see your mermaid. When is the appointment? Definitely check out the ladies thread, there is some clothing & bra related info in there! http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/general-tattoo-discussion/5371-ladies-thread.html
  9. Thanks @idyllsend, yeah mine is supposed to be a raven but I don't mind when ppl call it a crow--they are both cool birds... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. @peaceridge I have a calm faced tiger on my left arm, you can see it on my profile page gallery. I love it!!!!!!!! That tiger is serene for the moment but will spring into action if anyone messes with her ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. That's what tattoo artists do. They take your idea and draw it up for you... People on the tattoo forum don't do that. Also, doing great, thanks!
  12. Why do we really write articles? A postulation. (How common are opinion pieces? Exasperatingly common!) ;)
  13. Yes, so this happened! LST meet-up!!! Unfortunately Lance went back to JANM before Stella took our picture. I don't want to ruin @hogg's tough guy ban hammer reputation or anything, but what a great guy! Lance, too--but we already knew that. Great to see those tattoos in person, too.
  14. Hi @SeeSea! I had a hard time finding budget friendly lodging...the area isn't cheap and the cheaper hotels/motels had scary reviews (like: bed bugs !). We ended up staying at Hotel de Anza, which is a pretty nice art deco building with some fancy touches (chocolates for the pillow, robes, free cookies & apples, etc.), it was something like $234 a night and we stayed 2 nights. To soften the blow of the cost, I paid half up front a couple months in advance when I booked it. I prefer a coffee maker in the room, but they don't have that so we took advantage of room service...another expense. The beds were very comfy and the staff were really nice--first guy at the front desk asked if we were in town for a rock show... Some of the other guests looked a little more business-like than us. Food-wise, we found a cute sushi place up the street from the hotel called Fuji Sushi. We tried a pizza place nearby the second night. It was ok, can't remember the name of it but just so-so. There's a good coffee place right near SOG, but again, can't remember the name. It's like half a block away on the same side of the street. So, did I miss something--are you booked???
  15. What makes a good tattoo might help answer your question: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/general-tattoo-discussion/2396-what-makes-good-tattoo.html
  16. I was ready to go for tebori if he mentioned it, but when I got my monmon, there was no mention of it, he was setting up his machines before I even went into his little room. At one point another artist came over to check out what he was doing and Horitomo was showing him this new machine he was using and telling him how good it was. I figure, if he wants to use machines, he should! Tebori would be a cool experience too though. So basically, I am of no help!
  17. My 10 year old niece was telling me her ideas for future tattoos... And they kind of kicked ass! She wants a dragon on her right arm, with vines & leaves wrapped around it. Then, she wants a wolf fighting a snake on her left arm. On her back she wants a hippocamp (horse/fish hybrid). She's thinking maybe a griffin on her thigh. I was like, "Damn! I might want some of those, too!" Wonder what she'll be thinking in 8+ years...
  18. Just got back from a pretty great trip to see family in Newton, MA, Cape Cod, Martha's Vinyard, and Springfield, NY. Last night we ended the trip with our annual Red Sox game at Fenway Park. That didn't go so well for the Sox, but we had fun. My friend got a foul ball. What did I miss around here?
  19. I'd go with the picture you find yourself looking at more, that brings you the most joy when you look at it... If you want to picture her young and in her prime, that will make you happy. It's still her. You had the bond with the woman your mother was, so whichever image you go with, it's her. As long as you have an amazing portrait artist, you should be happy either way.
  20. I don't know, I once had a first grader using that phrase. Cracked me up. She must have been what they call "an old soul". [emoji1] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Maybe we were all out getting tattooed that day.
  22. I finally bought the Charnos Armery tights for covering my arms at work with short sleeved shirts. I'm pretty psyched about how they fit. The other type of arm sleeves I tried (I think it was tat2x sleeves) didn't work for me, they would fall down and bunch up at the top. These sleeves are great because it goes around your back, all one piece so it can't slip down. It makes it possible for me to wear this short sleeve shirt to work without having to put another shirt on underneath or cardigan on top. The sleeves don't quite come all the way to my wrists, good thing my tattoos don't either... Here's a before & after: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
