  2. If we can have topics on food, weight lifting, music and "random pictures", I don't see how one thread on piercings is gonna do any harm. On topic, my personal perspective is that I've had piercings in the past, but I get sick of "babying" them - having to clean them meticulously when they get gunked up, making sure I don't lose any bits of the jewellery that might come undone, being careful at shows so they don't get bumped/ripped out - tattoos are only annoying for a week or so while they heal, piercings are annoying forever :P
  3. Holy hell. Guess you gotta give him points for effort.
  4. Biggest peeve would have to be being looked down upon. It hasn't happened recently (since I'm more visibly tattooed now), but when jeans and a t-shirt covered all my tattoos, there were a few shops I went into where I was treated like an imbecile or a joke based on appearance alone. I can't stand being condescended to, and I sure as hell wont spend money for the pleasure.
  5. Genitals. So many genitals. I think you have to be a subscriber to get into the "hard" galleries, but sometimes bits and pieces (literally...) are posted on Modblog BME: Tattoo, Piercing and Body Modification News » ModBlog Usually under the title "guess what". NSFW goes without saying.
  6. Cat/eagle is one I haven't seen as often as cat/snake or eagle/snake. I personally would go something a bit weird (like mongoose/snake :P), but I reckon any of them would be great. My vote is cat/eagle.
  7. Foot is the same level of pass-outeyness as sternum? Well now I'm confident to get my sternum done!
  8. Good spotting, I wouldn't have noticed that. Surely nobody went to the trouble of Photoshopping in a mole.
  9. I don't seem to... bleed/seep/stick (?) so I don't get that issue with the sheets. It sounds like fun. Had a pretty epic 5 and a bit hours done yesterday, some re-outlining and extra shading, which meant basically all of my arm got attacked. Healing a whole arm at once is not fun. Sleeping last night sucked, today it's still all swollen and stings like a mofo. I also have "tattoo hangover" - I slept 10 hours last night from being so tired, my neck and back are sore (probably from lying down funky while being tattooed and tensing up a bit) and I got a killer headache. Soooo.... next appointment in 3 weeks :D
  10. All I can say is I despise those sites, no matter what they're asking for, for exactly the same reasons you've described. On the plus side, the saying "pay peanuts, get monkeys" will still apply, and people willing to get something more substantial will go seek it out the right way.
  11. Visiting my parents in the hick-town I grew up in a few months ago, my first port of call was the supermarket. I got a few stares of the nasty variety (and a lot of the obvious "OMG she saw us, don't look!"), but I also got some surprisingly positive reactions. One massive bearded guy came right up to me and started talking about how I reminded him of his daughter who plays roller derby, and how it's great that tattoos are "much better these days than when I was gettin' em!" with his arms all dotted with cool (but faded as hell) old work. That was pretty sweet. Another time while waiting for the bus, a guy and his girlfriend struck up a conversation with me about tattoos. He'd just got out of prison and had covered about 70% of himself with self-done biro-ink-and-burnt-bay-oil, cd-player-motor tattoos. They looked a lot better than I'd expected, he'd even done his own kneecaps pretty neat. They weren't really people I'd normally talk to (justified a few minutes later when they started harassing an Aboriginal girl and yelling racial slurs down the street) but it was kind of cool to get the chance.
  12. I've met a couple of people who had their eyes tattooed. I don't find it particularly appealing or intelligent (plus I can't quite understand how you'd keep your eye open while you can see and feel it being tattooed...), but it's not all that shocking either. At least it doesn't cause any functional difficulties, unlike some other mods which totally change the shape of facial features etc.
  13. It's not bad, but I'd be looking at a bit of a touchup to see if you can get any more to stick.
  14. Sorry to hear that it didn't work out. No one could say that you didn't try. Wishing you the best, keep looking after yourself and hopefully in due time she'll turn around, like the many stories in this thread.
  15. Anyone who has ever tried to become a full time artist by doing $20 commissions and selling prints on Etsy will tell you it's certainly not "quick cash". She's doing what a lot of people would like to do, which is make their creativity their job. Nothing wrong with some of her output being tattoo-related.
  16. @Heidi yep, when I'm getting tattooed in/around the elbow area I get a sharp pain in my ribs. It's really odd.
  17. Just the thought of getting the palm tattooed... I'm imaging the constant reflex to want to curl your hand up into a fist, and trying to resist doing so. Owwwwwwwwww.
  18. But on the plus side, at least he talks in mm instead of inches.
  19. I think it looks best if there's some consistency, not necessarily "matching" but at least a similar size, B&W/colour, style or theme. I personally only have one foot done, and the asymmetry is killing me.
  20. Another session on the arm this coming Wednesday - with any luck, it may be the last! Been avoiding starting anything else til this is done, so after that, I'll be getting my other foot done so I don't feel so asymmetrical! Haven't decided who by yet.
  21. Wow, only got to the second paragraph before the phrase "not here to make friends" appeared.
