  1. There's too much to type to explain the confusion over the mythology. Its not about tattooing being a subculture. Its about the various subcultures that get tattoos. You've had military, hot rod/kustom culture, bikers, punkers, greasers, juggalos, skinheads, thugs, etc.

Now that includes people who are just interested in tattoos as being the common thing. Usually in the other social groups or subcultures, you can see a trend of common interests. So now I think people are overly trying to impose ideas on other groups because of their own internal struggle to find a common interest across the board with other tattooed folks in a different social class or subculture. Even when there is overlap or other common interests among like minded individuals, it doesn't and shouldn't dictate an assimilation of all thoughts.

Someone who just wants a mark on their body won't share the same concern or interest as someone who wants a full body suit so they may not want to pay a reasonable price or an expensive price to just satisfy their desire. Educate the people who genuinely want to know. Let folks get bad tattoos if they want. It used to be that if you saw someone with a certain type of tattoo it was sometimes a form of communication. The style the content etc. So if I see someone with a cool tattoo that I like I might ask them who did it and if I just see someone who has lots of tattoos I might not even look twice. Because tattoos alone aren't what's going to signal me to a like minded person. So let's not try so hard to convert the unwilling. We need clear clues as to the message these folks are trying to send.

I say this as simply observing for the last 20+ years of getting tattooed and the last 10 of doing them.

There's still a good chance I'm confused or just full of shit but that's what I've noticed.

  2. If you love movies that make absolutely no fucking sense at all, watch this movie. I was lucky enough to find it in a used-VHS bin a few years ago at Book Nook in Atlanta...it was in pretty good condition given the condition of the other movies in the bin. It is one of my most treasured VHS finds.

  4. Yeah, I like all that stuff so Blood Ceremony is totally in my area of interest. I'll check out that second album to begin with I think and give it an honest listen.

I've been meaning to check out Jex Thoth because I really like what she did with Sabbath Assembly. If you haven't heard them, check them out. I only have the first album but it's really cool retro-y psych with her on vocals. They're playing hymns from the Process Church's hymn book. Integrity it isn't.

In that vein too, I really love The Devil's Blood though they are sadly no more.

I want that sabbath assembly stuff, I've only gotten to hear it via youtube. Same goes for the totem stuff she did.

I've listened to the devils blood a few times, sometimes I find that I like it and other times I can't seem to get into it. I think its mainly the gal's vocals that put me off a first. I'm sure if I get to give it a proper listen of a whole album that won't be an issue.

Edit- ok just played a couple tracks and I don't know why I ever didn't like them. Haha

  5. I saw Blood Ceremony opening for Pagan Altar about three years ago and I really wasn't into them, but I always hear people who I trust about music talking about them. I should give them another listen.

This thread made me listen to Red House Painters. I forget that I really like them.

Well here's what I'll say about blood ceremony, the flute can be off-putting to lots of folks. The second album I like even a bit more than the first one. I was listening to a lot of real retro sounding stuff like orchid, witchcraft and the early pentagram stuff so it fit real nice into a set with those.

I'd say yo check out jex thoth also.

  6. Carcass, deltron, blame one, wolf people, tech itch, blood ceremony, yeahyeahyeahs , Mogwai, Steve mason, nin, ministry, amorphous androgynous , jello Biafra, kverlertak, all awesome it's been a great music year. Honourable mentions also go to black sabbath, rush , and Motörhead too!

I played them first 2 blood ceremony albums a bunch this year as well. Haven't gotten the new one yet. Also nice to know someone else has heard of amorphous androgynous. Haha
