Have him check out Battle Born Tattoo in Vegas. It's owned by Jon Mirro who also owns Hand of Doom in Buffalo, where I got my first tattoo. Actually while I was getting my tattoo we were talking about his purchasing and renovating the place.
Looks like they do good work there.

I've been thinking some more about the back piece idea... I really really love the traditional Pharoes horses design and i've come across a few really amazing looking tattoos but done on womens stomachs.. Stomach tattoos are off limits for me completely but i'm wondering if mid back and down might be an option... then leave lots of room at the top of my back IF it ever does become tattooable... i know this is probably totally the wrong place to post this but it's late and i've spent the night creeping all over the internet at horse tattoos... all advice welcome :D
The stomach is (imo) the best place to get Pharaoh's Horses, but the back is a close second. I think if you go mid/lower back with it, it will be fine but you'll need to have a plan for the upper back that ties in with it somewhat. It's my favorite tattoo image, eventually it will adorn my stomach (I want to get more tattoos first, and also get in a bit better shape). I add all my favorites to my Pharaoh's Horses tumblr, check it out if you still want to look at more horse tattoos :)

I saw the postgame conference where he said he would get one. He ended up getting something along the lines of what I expected he would, but I wonder why he chose such a weird location? The same thing done high on his shoulder would have been just as concealable.
I would have liked to see a cool tattoo of a cardinal instead of just the big 'L' .

Its been ages since my last tattoo...
Ages? You use this word, I do not think it means what you think it means.
Or someone redefined 'ages' as three weeks without informing me... :)

I popped into the Pearl Harbor Gift Shop today to get a couple little ones done. (And by popped in I mean I got to the shop an hour and a half before opening to ensure I got a sitting - sigh.) Here are my two latest, both by Dan Innes. Nothing too fancy or complicated, but both are images I've admired for quite a while.
Is there ever a week you don't pop in to the Pearl? :)
Great tattoos! I love the clasping hands image as well; eventually I plan to get it in that location too. Just out of curiosity, how many walk-ins were lined up by the time the shop opened? And isn't Sunday Glennie's walk-in day and Dan's tomorrow?

I suppose one thing to keep in mind is even though the amount of time they might need to actually tattoo you is short, they still have to setup/breakdown, clean and everything else that would be involved in the longer session. Just something to think about.
^This. As a result, I would speculate that the least expensive* way to get your tiny olive colored would be to go back and get another tattoo and have your artist just put some color in it then.
*Yeah, that will be even more money out of your pocket than the quote you just got - but hey, a new tattoo!

ok well i was going to post pictures, but it seems this site wont let you load directly from the computer.
If you "go advanced" for your reply you can add a photo as an attachment directly from your computer.

Hi Justin, welcome to the forum!

For me, it would be:
Never - Face or Head
Extremely unlikely - Hands
Even less likely - Neck

Funny story about this...
I told this girl I know (not girlfriend) that I was thinking of getting a traditional Jesus head tattooed on my chest. She then goes on to tell me that it would be super awkward for any girl that I end having sex with, because when they look up they would see Jesus.
True story.
That would put the scriptural idea of Jesus being the groom and his church being His bride in a whole different light.

Valerie Vargas at Frith St Tattoo on my calf.
This is why a winner isn't declared after the first three days. Great tattoo!

Hey Shaun - lemme know next time you head to The Pearl and I can give you some more things to see and do in the area. Its brilliant in the market in the summer.
Will do for sure. The other day was my first trip to Kensington market and looks pretty awesome even on a freezing cold spring day.

Good idea, Graeme. I'm happy to start. The shop I go to is The Pearl Harbor Gift Shop on Kensington Ave in the heart of Toronto's Kensington Market. There are several good places to eat in drink in the immediate area. I'll list my favorites:
Food
1. Pho Hung Vietnamese Restaurant - cheap, tasty, and proudly has the worst service around. But the pho is so good you won't care. On Spadina Ave just north of Dundas on the west side of the street.
2. Ajisen Ramen - like the name suggests, it's a Japanese noodle shop. Tastiness awaits! Also right on Spadina a little north of Dundas.
3. El Trompo - like Mexico City style tacos? This is your place. Friendly, reasonably priced, and very good. It's on Augusta Ave just south of College Street
4. Nu Bagel - on Augusta Ave. this is the best place to get a Montreal style bagel in Toronto. For those who don't know, Montreal bagels are simply the greatest dough-based product in the planet. It will run you 9$ for a dozen and 5$ for 6. Always fresh and perfect. Meet your new partner in weight gain.
Thanks for this! On the drive home Tuesday I was thinking about how I'd need to ask you what a good place to eat would be the next time I went to the Pearl. Then @Graeme makes this excellent thread and totally saved me from remembering to do that!

While most of my body is still empty space, this particular empty space was bothering me the most...
Drove up to Toronto yesterday and had this sparrow/rose done by Tim Pausinger. It was my first time at that The Pearl Harbor Gift Shop - what an amazing place! All three of my tattoo experiences have been great but The Pearl was on another level (maybe due in part to me being more experienced at getting tattoos also) of cool. Definitely now going to be my default recommendation to anyone who asks me where they should get tattooed. If they don't want to drive an hour and a half then they just don't want it enough ;)
edit: Just wanted to add that this was my first tattoo since joining LST and my first chance to post in this thread. Looking forward to many more.

You can always ask your questions right here in your intro thread! No need to rush to ten posts. I got my first tattoo last year at 34 and also had wanted one for a long time. Just got my third tattoo today.
Fire away on the "newbie q's" :)

Welcome!
I know what you mean by having space planned but still always changing ideas. What is your new tattoo going to be?

Since this is only a 90 minute drive from me I would really like to get there and check it out. I've got a tattoo booked for two weeks after though so I probably wouldn't be getting anything done at the convention.

I already mentioned this in the "Relationships and Tattoos" thread, but now it's official. My plainskin wife has finally (somewhat suddenly) decided she would like to get a tattoo. Seeing the chance for relationship building, and also wanting to get a tattoo by Tim Pausinger for myself, I showed her The Pearl Harbor Gift Shop's website and artist portfolios. End result - on the 2nd of April I'm booked in with Tim (he had a cancellation) and my wife will be seeing Lissa Vino (Tuesdays are her walk-in days so we'll be driving up nice and early).
The more heavily tattooed among us probably experience this often, but this is the first time I've had an appointment booked for a significant tattoo (see 6 posts ago) and then squeezed a smaller one in before it. Very exciting!

My wife was quite supportive of my decision to get a tattoo last year. The tattoo I got since then, and the ones I have planned for the future - not so much. I'm not entirely surprised; we'd been married for 13 years and I hadn't made more than a passing reference to wanting a tattoo; and now that I've started collecting it is a big change.
At least she hadn't been. Major tattoo relationship news - she had been dead set against the idea of her ever getting one of her own. Then a couple weeks ago she started collecting ideas on pinterest. Fast forward to today and I find myself on the phone with the Pearl Harbor Gift Shop starting to plan out us both going in to get tattoos, mine by Tim and hers by Lissa.
Very exciting times - and proof that anyone can change their mind about tattoos!

I have been on forums that have had great success making certain parts of the forum open to only people with a certain post count...
At least on some forums it can also be done by date of joining. On a forum I used to be a regular contributor to, there is both an "Alpha" group for those who've been around for a very long time and a "Beta" group for members with a high level of dedication shown by post count.
From the sticky on each groups page: "The criteria for gaining access are not to be talked out. Mods should not tell anyone, but if you already know, just don't go make a big deal about. it. It'll just hurt feelings of those that haven't reached the thresholds.
What's talked about in this forum and in any threads within it should be considered confidential unless specifically said otherwise."

Hi :)
in Initiation
Frith St. Tattoo you say? No need for anyone to chime in with a good artist then! :)
Seriously, you are in good hands. You may not be able to exactly visualize what you want right now, but with the reference and ideas you've got there the artist you end up working with will give you an excellent tattoo.
Who are you booked with, if you don't mind my asking?
And of course - Welcome to the forum!

I can't stop reading this right now. Re-reading, actually, since I read them about 7ish years ago but it seems I've forgotten just about everything past the first book. I'm about halfway into A Storm of Swords.
I find it difficult to get myself to read fiction, but once I'm done this series I will check out the other authors you have listed there.
