  1. Nice - mine is on Saturday. Hopefully I'll be able to come down on Friday, but my teaching schedule for the fall won't be available for several more weeks. Are you going to stay for Saturday? (and Sunday?) @Shaun1105

I'm answering this question in this thread, just so that we don't dominate "upcoming tattoos" too much with our Montreal talk ;)

@Mark Bee, I plan to stay overnight Friday to Saturday. If Saturday is Poutine Day (as @Graeme suggested), then I'll stay as long as I possibly can that day. I have obligations that mean I need to return for Sunday and it's a 6+hr drive. Sleep is optional but poutine is not.

Speaking of the aforementioned 6+ hr drive: I'll be leaving from the Niagara Falls, ON area at about 9:30am, and driving up through Toronto to Montreal. If there are any members who would be interested in catching a ride with me, just let me know. Just note that I'll be leaving Montreal on Saturday as I said. Every dollar saved on gas is another dollar that can go towards our tattoos. Plus then I can drive in the carpool only lanes ;)

  2. Just booked with R.H. Wells at the Montreal convention in September.

^^Literally inspired by this post, I just booked with him for Montreal too!

Super stoked, because that means I'm definitely going to get myself to the convention. Without an appointment I would have probably let something else take priority. My first convention!! Ron Henry Wells!! So much excite!!!

  3. So my sister is in Ottawa for a few weeks for work and is looking to get a tattoo while she's there (she lives in Vancouver). She asked me if I knew of any good places - which I don't off the top of my head. She's willing to drive as far as Montreal if need be; so I've already recommended MTL Tattoo.

Does anyone have any other recommendations for Ottawa itself, or reasonably close? @Graeme or @Pugilist, anywhere else I should say in Montreal?

    Thanks!

  4. I think my wife is finally ready to get her first tattoo! So tomorrow (actually, later today I guess) we will be heading into Toronto to try for a walk-in at The Pearl Harbor Gift Shop. If we're too late or they're really busy I will try at The Okey Doke.

Not sure exactly yet what either of us will get. I'm going to add to my left arm, I've got a couple ideas (and the rest of tonight at work to keep thinking of more). She's been looking at Pinterest for ideas (!) so hopefully she ends up with something cool but tbh I'm just happy she'll go with me.

  5. I try not to judge, but sometimes it's hard. Over the winter I was at indoor waterparks with my kids a couple times. Probably 25% of people in there had tattoos, and the number of people with good tattoos I could count on one hand.

Most people get sub-par tattoos because they don't know better though. I don't feel bad about judging the tattoos of people who have no excuse. Here I mean my friends/ coworkers who ask me about tattoos and/or artist recommendations then completely ignore my advice and go to the girl who works for $80 an hour out of her house (who does fair to average tattoos at best).

Or even better this exchange via facebook message:

Her- "what do you about tattoos on the inside of the finger"

Me- "Bad idea because (reasons)" I include a link of a picture of what those tattoos tend to end up looking like.

    Her - "Ok, thanks"

I think you know what happened next.

  6. Greetings canvases of all colors and nationalities!

Got a fancy new tat zap that you just can't wait to show off to the internet? Maybe a new pair of squid pants? Well then look no further! Post it up here, in LST's very own "Tattoo of the Month" Contest!

Only question is, do YOU have what it takes to be "LST Ink Master Canvas March 2014"????

Enter to earn the title (...and a complimentary LST shirt)

Love the new intro. April fools joke or can we look forward to it each month? ;)

  7. I hope this isn't creepy, but knowing that two artists are also friends somehow makes me happier to have their work side by side on me. I don't know what it is, exactly - maybe the idea that there's somehow a conversation involved.

I think the same thing! For me it hasn't happened yet though (only in my future tattoo plans!).

  8. If we must label I'd say this dude looks like more of a Joey Joe than a hipster...

I don't know what a Joey Joe is (and neither does UrbanDictionary so I think you made it up :)). I saw only the original tattoo and had to decide on whether to go with the 'worst ever' or 'hipster' thread and it did seem like something a hipster would get. I agree that this guy doesn't fit the stereotype though.

    Next LST shirt:

'Last Sparrow Tattoo: Get a panther'

'Come for the tattoos, stay for the panthers'

'Last Sparrow Tattoo: Panther heads R us'

It's true though. Get a panther! Ahaha

    Panthers 4 Life!

  9. Hey everyone,

Some absolutely sick pieces this month, but i'm throwing my entry out there anyhow. Let me know what you think!

Done by David Bruehl, RedLetter1, Tampa, Florida:

Can't tell you how cool the studio out there is, and how awesome Dave was as well!

    Cheers :)

Great tattoo! I'm a big fan of David Bruehl's work. When I eventually get myself down to FLA, I will get something from him for sure.

  10. It's not an issue of it being two hours, it's an issue of it being two hours with nowhere to stay. It'd take me over two hours to go to Virginia Beach, but I can stay with my boyfriend. It'd take me two hours to go to Charlottesville, but I can stay with one of my best friends. Because, you know, I have this thing called an overly paranoid and controlling set of parents who would never let me stay in a hotel. They'll barely allow me to get the tattoos.

Ok, so clearly LST needs some kind of tattoo-taxi service associated with us. Volunteers to drive people to get tattooed - good shops only! - in exchange for gas money, lunch, and being allowed to hang out in the shop all day.

For a two hour drive you should get just get a noon appointment. With a 3-4 hour tattoo you can be home by 6pm. Maybe it's just being me being older, male, or Canadian, but I don't start thinking something requires an overnight stay until it's at least a 3.5hr drive away.

  11. And if anyone wants to continue giving me advice, the other design I want is a snake, specifically an asp, in full color, on my right shoulder/upper arm area. This one I will take any advice you want to give because all I know is I want a snake, I want it in color, and I don't want it to look mean.

Whose artist interview had the quote about people wanting to get tigers that don't look mean? Anyone? I'm drawing a blank but it's all I can think of here!

Sorry @SerenityViolet, I know snakes are different from tigers :) and your non-mean snake will be great. I wish you the best in finding the right artist! My only advice: Don't compromise on artist quality just to get your tattoo sooner. You've got a whole lifetime to live with that art on you.

  12. Seeking attention is the answer, there's not much other explanation.

I agree that it's dumb, but I don't think it's especially cruel. If I were a dog, I'd far rather get a tattoo under anesthesia than get my testicles removed, or have my tail or ears cropped, or have to wear a collar that shocked/sprayed me when I barked, or to struggle to breathe because breeders designed my face to be squished over the years.

Any of those things could be considered far more cruel than a stupid tattoo that will just be itchy in less than a week.

  13. Being happy with your own tattoo is all that's important in the end. If you're not worried about what other people think about it, that's awesome and I hope your fixed tattoo makes you happy.

In a similar way, when you're expressing yourself in writing, the truly important thing is the words you use. If you're not worried about the happiness or enjoyment of the people reading it, then don't worry about breaking very long blocks of text into paragraphs.

  14. You chose a great shop and amazing artist for your first tattoo (but you knew that)!

I have a small piece by Tim myself. On any given day, if you go to the Pearl you stand a decent chance of seeing forum member @Mark Bee hanging around or getting tattooed, at least it seems that way sometimes. He's got great stuff done by Tim too.

    Welcome to the forum!
