  1. "The art of medicine consists in amusing the patient while nature cures the disease." -Voltaire
  2. +1 to advice to keep it simple. However, this effect can be killer in the right hands. Check out some of James McKenna's stuff. Some of his stuff pushes things a bit too far for my tastes, but there are some really amazing ideas in there too: https://instagram.com/j__mckenna/ https://instagram.com/p/zYrrrqQ2sH/?modal=true https://instagram.com/p/wilI64w2vd/?modal=true https://instagram.com/p/j9HGFKw2sI/?modal=true
  3. Erryone talking about not being able to rock a proper devil/demon tattoo is missing out. Alls you gotta do is fork over your everlasting-soul to the dark lord! Simple! On a serious note, I find this really interesting. I'd say some of the depictions of Kali I've seen are waaay heavier than most devils tats (as only one example) but there's far less response of "I couldn't wear that". What is it about the great satan hisself that conjures such hesitation? - - - Updated - - - And also, Herb Auerbach rules for devils: https://instagram.com/p/veW3SZvJbe/?modal=true https://instagram.com/p/y5UEJAvJRb/?modal=true https://instagram.com/p/wZh-EGvJZn/?modal=true
  4. Ah, there it is...the opinion that validates yours. If you don't like it (and it seems like its pretty clear WHAT you don't like about it) why ask around about opinions? I don't mean this to be harsh, but maybe this style of tattoo isn't for you? It's been my experience with larger work that there will be differences between the original drawing and the final tattoo application. They are, after all, two very different things. If you go in being dead-set on every detail and line I think it's a pretty sure bet your expectations will be different than the outcome. I think the impact and overall effect are much more important, but that's me. Not to say you shouldn't feel like you can (and should) get what you want, but with something that large and involved it's unlikely that any drawing will be a perfect transfer into the tattoo. As mentioned above, extend it up! With more coverage, the over-all impact will become the focal point, not some minuscule details that only you (the wearer) will notice because you have the opportunity to obsess about it. Just some guy on the internet's $0.02
  5. I like this thread. Right leg: what, who, where Lady head - Herb Auerbach, California Electric Boar/party-pig - Bryan Randolph, Spider Murphy's Flower thingy - Capilli Tupou, Sacred Electric Weirdo-anthropomorphic-walking-compass-bro-tat-guy (can't really see it): Job de Quay, Salon Serpent Bottom of the well: Theo Mindell Left Leg: Start of something killer: Tim Lehi, Blackheart Insanity: El Monga, Spider Murphys/Tattoo city (guesting)
  6. Wait, don't you have a hot-stuff (or two)?
  7. That big torso devil from Theo Mindell is on me! We have finished everything now except the last bit of fire/flames. Next/Last appt coming up in April to kill the beast.
  8. 5 skulls (and a reaper. Does he count for 6?) 4 Snakes (1 of which has 7 heads, soooo not sure how to count that ) 4 Animal heads + 1 Oni head
  9. Man, $400 for a deposit? I guess I've been doing it wrong...
  10. Hmm, while I've never been accused of being 'cultured' I have had the good fortune of traveling a LOT over the years. This isn't really even worth responding to, but it chaps me when people just toss out mis-information disguised as a truism. Unless you're going somewhere really heavy, you won't be discriminated against simply for having an english word tattooed on you no matter how it is "spelt". And if you're going somewhere that heavy it's likely you'll draw some heat, tattoos or not. In my non-cultured opinion if you're looking for in-depth discussion your approach might be a bit off. And for the record, I don't tattoo. Not sure where you got that.
  11. You just gotta let it happen. Trying to zone out is probably the worst way to do it in my experience... And if it gets rough, remember: you're not really getting hurt. There's no serious damage. People do it everyday and they're fine.
  12. @ShyGypsy I'm still not sure how the language used in the text would clue someone in to where you're from unless the tattoo says so explicitly. Let's say youre standing in line with an American, Canadian, Australian, Brit, New Zealander, South African etc etc etc and they all have tattoos with text (in English). Without talking to them can you tell where each is from? Pretty sure this is a non-issue.
  13. @sweetling kind of strange for someone with a wrist-text tattoo to be admonishing another person for a wrist-text tattoo, no? I'm sure many of those people with (admittedly cheesy) text tattoos feel the same way about words as you do. They likely also had a "very personal" reason for getting the tattoo... @ShyGypsy what do you mean about not getting a text tattoo to prevent racial discrimination while traveling? This is a very weird statement to me.
  14. I really enjoyed that interview. Thanks for sharing.
  15. He was guesting at Spider Murphy's in San Rafael, CA at the time.
  16. My reaper by Simon Erl done about 2 years ago. Terrible photo...
  17. I've never had it happen through the tattoo. For me it always seemed like the issue was movement at the edges.
  18. I've had this happen in areas where the edge of the derm lays in a very mobile patch of skin IE crease of the elbow/ditch and armpit. I'd try to position the derm edges to avoid these areas when possible.
  19. Was looking like a slow start to 2015 for me but things changed quickly. Coming up between now and end of March: Bryan Randolph Jeff Rassier Tim Lehi Theo Mindell We are spoiled in the Bay Area...

    Hi all

I'm not sure where you heard this, but that seems pretty odd to me. Welcome.
  21. Seconded. Haven't heard the new E-wiz yet (well, we listened to it at a recent tattoo session but it's a big torso tattoo, so I didn't really 'listen' to it, know what I mean?) Here's one: BUDOS BAND: burnt offering I am in the same boat as @Graeme .... Funds diverted elsewhere. My record collection is not expanding at the rate it once did.
