Hello and welcome. How recently did you get the tattoo? I ask because it's really difficult to judge things like "mushy" linework until the tattoo is healed and settled in a bit. I know that when I've had healing tattoos that sometimes lines look like a bit of a mess, like they're blown out, but they're totally fine once the tattoo is healed.

I believe he works out of Brooklyn NY appears to be well respected locally. My opinion is that he does decent work based on his gallery and Instagram which in full disclosure I do follow. If you are set on tebori work and you're out on the west coast, I would give heavy consideration to making a trip out to San Jose to see Horitomo or Yokohama Horiken

    Hi Ry4n!
If you haven't already, check out the Fine Arts Library on your campus. If you are lucky, they may even have an Asian library or collection. And don't stop at your campus. Most colleges allow general admittance to their libraries and California is chock-a-block with institutes of higher learning. I have enjoyed several UC libraries this way (including Berkeley...they have some of Horiyoshi's books including 100 Demons...that was a really fantastic day:D ).
It's old school but still my favorite way to find inspiration. Take a day. Do a general search ("Japanese art" or whatever). Get an idea of where your subject is and walk the rows. Pull the books that seem interesting/have a lot of pictures and sit and flip. When you find something you like, photocopy or cell pic that bad boy.
There are things in university libraries that you will never come close to finding on the internets...magical things...

Yesssss, i have been looking for this thread! I am three weeks into healing my calves and chest from SFO and I have never had anything ITCH so bad ever.....like catch-myself-scratching-in-the-middle-of-the-night-while-I-am-sleeping itchy. I walk around all day like Tyrone from the Chappelle show.
Ima go and buy the anti-itch Aveeno today. I'll let y'all know how that goes.
On the plus side, I have a new empathy for crackheads. Ummmm, that's good right?

I'll check it out for sure. I've had a few tattoos that healed awfully, but usually it has a lot to do with my lifestyle at that time, not getting enough sleep, staying out late drinking , eating crappy food, etc.
Now, I sort of go into training before a large tattoo session, haha. Sleeping 8+ a night, paleo diet, cross training, gallon of water a day, that sort of thing. At least it eliminates me being the problem

It's probably always this bad and I just immediately forget as soon as it's no longer a problem, but my back is ITCHY AS FUCKING HELL. So a couple minutes ago I was in the print shop, noticed I was alone, and started to slap my back like a crazy person. This was of course the moment that someone decided to lead in a tour group of BFA applicants and their parents. I'm guessing not many of them will be declaring printmaking majors.

the pain and the swelling is something I can live with, the itch however makes me want to off myself. Every time I heal a tattoo it catches me off guard and then it won't leave me alone for days. Makes me go insane

Love myself some awesome tattoos. Stoked about what is happening in the world of tattoo these days...amazing refinements of already awesome traditions and a lot of next level evolutions in technique and subject matter.
Can appreciate all forms and styles. Prefer to wear more western traditionally styled work with a bit of Asian/Asian-influenced stuff thrown into the mix. BUT I still have A LOT of spaaaaaace and we all know how that goes :) ...anything could happen!
I am both blessed and doomed to live in the Bay area of Northern California with tooooo much access to some of the most talented folks out there. Am definitely not above traveling overseas or who-knows-where to get work from someone who has caught my fancy.
Celebrating (being in) my 10th year of marriage to my Hubbs with a tattoo odyssey that we have both been enjoying since January of 2013.
First two tattoos from Chris Trevino (Perfection Tattoo - Austin) at the tender ages of 20 and 26 (late 90's). Getting tattooed right out the gate by someone who has put so much into their craft taught me more about tattoo than I think anything else could have and for this I am thankful.
I love having tattoos. It has been such a great experience. I love hearing about other peoples tattoos. I want to be surrounded by tattooed people and their tattoo stories :o .
Upcoming appointments are Horitomo in January, Theo Mindell (Feb-March), Stewart and Valerie (late April-May). Will take pictures of existing work and upload soon.
I am pretty darned stoked and glad to be here. So thanks in advance, everyone, for that! :D
