I read this article this morning and found it amusing. Especially number three because if you think about majority of the individuals who use these and the variables that would make them leave or rather forget them it makes sense. GadlingSo What have you left behind on purpose or not? I'm guilty for number four and eight. I am a tattooer visiting San Fransisco September2-7. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions of bookstores or any other sites tattoo and art related that i should visit. Of course the tattoo museum, MOMA, and the arboretum are on my list. I know there's gotta be some bookstores in China Town and Little Tokyo that have some great reference books. I am particularly interested in aquiring Japanese mythology and art instructional books. I was also curious of the etiquette about dropping in on some of the better shops in town. Any help would be appreciated.

A recent thread from a customer's point of view got me to thinking------ as a tattooist, how do you treat visitors to your shop who are also tattooists. Have you been treated well or horribly when visiting other people's shops? I know that the poor treatment that ive received stopping in at a shop has shaped the way That I treat visitors.

I am pretty sure i have made my mind up on this topic that i have been ambivalent about for several years. I know the idea is not unique but like the concept so thought i would see if anyone else out there on this tattoo forum does anything similar. I have been contemplating whether or not I was going to save one of my legs for a passport like tattoo postcard. I have had this idea for awhile as mentioned above and know others who do this. So I have decided on this one tattoo idea design which I will have various tattooers when I'm on the road or they're guest spotting do their own interpretation of it in a three by three or similar size tattoo. I figure the smaller i keep it the more i can collect as well as it should enable me to get walk-in tattoos in one sitting much easier. The satisfaction of sitting for a few hours and more than likely less than a few hours and leave with a nice tattoo completed. Anyone out there have postcard-ish tattoos for your travels? Care to show pictures?

Hey I was wondering what is the best way to contact an artist as a prospective client by phone, email or another way? I have attempted to get a hold of a few artists to see if they would be willing to take me on as a client in the future. So far I haven't gotten any replies. I am trying to save and figure out logistics involved like scheduling vacation, plane tickets etc. I guess I am looking for suggestions. I know some of the artists I have contacted are really busy. I figured that email would be a safe bet as I feel a little dumb calling and taking to someone about a future tattoo. I would like to get an idea if the artist is willing to work with me and the rate so I can start to get a ball park idea of hours and cost involved. Looking for opinions thanks.

So I think I'm in the clear for asking this question... at least I hope since Im not asking for anything application related... but I was wondering what everyone uses to carry their gear in when traveling? I've been looking at the huge pelican cases but wanted to know if there is anything better I should be looking at? Thanks. if somehow i crossed a line with someone by asking this... then sorry.

I am sitting here trying to figure out the best way to arrange a trip to SF later this year (hopefully) solely to get tattooed. It's just that while visiting I want to make the most of it and hopefully get tattooed by a few artists during my stay. What concerns me is that probably most of the artists that I would like to get tattooed by have long waiting lists. If I'm going to pull through financially I have to book a fairly reasonable flight a few months in advance, and maybe stay for a week or so. So, to the artists here; How do you prefer to make arrangements with clients travelling from abroad to get tattooed by you? I'm assuming that you require a deposit, but do you usually find room in your schedule if you're approached by travelling clients with a few months notice, or do they just have to get on the waitinglist and get the date they're given like everyone else? I guess this is a very broad question that probably varies from artist to artist. I'm just having kind of a hard time figuring how to go about planning a trip like this. Any enthusiasts here have any input and/or experience on travelling somewhere to get tattooed by several artists in the same area? I'm a newbie when it comes to this so any tips/pointers/help is greatly appreciated!

Did anyone see this latest announcement on trying to make it so Americans can travel to Cuba easier? Have any LSTers ever been to Cuba? I have always wanted to go and looked at options but now it could get easier. The ban is pretty ridiculous in my opinion. I love the Caribbean and would love to live there so how about those that have been to the Caribbean: -Favorite Islands/Towns? -Where do you want to go? For me it is: Favorite Islands: St. Barths, Anguilla, St. Marten, Puerto Rico Desired Islands/town: Cuba, St. Lucia For those interested here are some other LST travel threads and blogs: Traveling for a tattoo shop Travel and shop choosing Traveling with Tattoos Lets talk about our travels and vacations Tattooed traveler top five destinations What tattoo shops? so i'll be headed to Chicago next week (oct 5-11) and i thought i'd ask if anyone had any recommendations for things to check out and do. i'll be going to Riot Fest all 5 nights so my evening plans are set, but i'll be there by myself and with lots of time to explore the city during the day. i think i'm pretty set as far as museums go, but i have no clue on where to go for good record shopping, used clothing, thrifting or anything else fun. i would love to get tattooed while i'm there, but unfortunately, i don't think i'll have the money to do so. any suggestions?

So my soon to be husband has a tattoo appointment on Dec 29 but our honeymoon starts January 18th. He's only getting line work this first sit. Is that too soon to be swimming? He'll wear sunscreen and all that- we're not really sun bathers. But salty, wet, humid... is this bad? What's the risk? Infection, ruined work, or both?

Hello LST! I own a shop in Toronto that has hosted a bevy of amazing international artists in our first 18 months of operation and hope to host more. We have in-shop accommodations as half of our shop Is an old converted apartment. Speakeasy's approach to the guest spot is to offer our shop as an artists' sabbatical wherein you can paint and tattoo any hours you please, if our noon-7 doesn't fit your preferred schedule. Our manager, Hayden, is a force of nature booking people in and no one has left disappointed or under-paid for lack of jobs. We also host what will become an annual heavily advertised summer tour where www have 5 artists back to back who work for a small daily rent and can pocket as much cash as they can make, or as little if they just want to come up and be laid back! Last years roster was nikki balls, Josh Egnew, cla Dankmeyer, Adam sage, and Jason lambert, and we can't wait to see who will be part of this amazing project in 2011. All of our advertising for these projects are grassroots and safe for your travels: by postering and handing out handbills, you can be sure that a border guard cannot search your name and deny you entry upon Viewing easily googlable posts about your work trip. We can't wait to host all kind of new friends and share tips tricks and jokes. Lizzie
