higgs is a talented, eccentric MAN. not a divine guru. this whole "cult of higgs" that has sprung up the last few years is fucking stupid.

i talk people out of backgrounds and useless additions all the time. i see so much garbage online. people just throw every trick in the book in there. or just tack on a bunch of roses around something, it looks awful. just let the image be itself, it has strength on its own. a gypsy head doesn't need blood splatters, a crescent moon, fog, a tree, roses and fake cholo letters all around it. except for a few people, tattooing is in a sorry state creatively. by the way, the outline thing is a SMITH STREET thing, which has now been beaten to death by anybody with a computer. you can't do anything new and cool without vampires sucking it dry. ok, i'm done...haha

Has anyone ever thought maybe the reason Dann Higgs doesnt want anything to do with tattooing is the crazy Dan Higgs posts and sometimes creepy hero worship like the ones that happen here and everywhere else his name is mentioned. I mean ive never been tattooed by him nor met him, but i would think that its all pretty overwhelming.

yeah, i know the forcefields came from old sheets, but bert and the boys picked it up and it was immediately copied and absorbed. boltz told me they kinda did it as an amusing experiment, to see how fast it would be copied. it took two days for some kid in argentina to copy it and post it online haha...

i like the outline if it works with the design. i think stewart robson at frith st. tattoo did a fine job on this one...
i totally think mario is right too, cut out everything that doesn't need to be there. i always find that the tattoos that make a big impact, are simpler and less involved. filler can definitely look cool, when done right. but i prefer the negative space between tattoos, i also think it gives each piece a stronger impact and it adds more of a storyboard effect to the body, which i think reads better. stuart cripwell at spider murphy's executed this perfectly...

just cram 'em all in there. i don't get it when people plan their whole bodies out or want all this "balance". do they plan on posing around naked all the time for us to scrutinize? most of the time people only see our arms anyway.

    Hello fellow LST'rs
We have been working hard to upgrade the current 'Tattoo Gallery' section and it's almost ready to be installed, so we wanted to let you know what to expect so you aren't too freaked out by it!
Here are some of the things you can look forward to:
    1. Batch uploading - we will have the option to upload multiple pictures at a time without having to select them individually.
    2. Tattoo Categories - Every picture can be assigned to a category so that we will be able to view all of the Dragon tattoo pictures (for example) in one area!
    3. Slideshows - we will be able to watch a slideshow of all pictures in a given category, or member album without having to click each one - just sit back and enjoy.
    4. Image rating - we will be able to rate all pictures and sort by the highest rated.
    5. Sorting - we will be able to sort by most views, most comments, highest rated, newest, oldest, etc.
    6. Favorites - we will be able to save and collect our favorite images on LST to a new 'My Favorites' area to check out any time without having to search for them.
    7. Email Notifications - we will be able to receive email notifications anytime someone comments on one of our pictures if we want to.
...and a bunch of other cool stuff.
One thing that is different from the current system is that there will no longer be the option to create multiple member 'albums' - all of your current pictures will be moved into a new 'gallery' tab on your user profile page (so don't freak out ).
After the new gallery is live, we will ask you to go through and assign each of your pictures to the category that you feel best fits them when you have a chance. All existing pictures will be assigned to a generic 'Tattoo Pictures' category by default when the new system is installed.
We are aiming to install the new gallery system some time between now and cinco de mayo (just for fun). There will be a couple hours of downtime while we perform the upgrade.
Let us know if you have any questions.
    Enjoy!

good points, i'm just too lazy and post all my pics from my iphone these days, as my camera gathers dust. on a side note, i see a lot of hacks making laughable tattoos watermarking their photos, as if anyone would want to steal them! these are the same guys who write on their websites "DO NOT STEAL OR COPY!" hahaha...and they suck!

julio, i read a story about a tattooer on south state street, chicago in the 50's who also hated that. so he would wear a big sombrero while he worked so the dude couldn't look down! the brim was between him and the tattoo!!

people who walk in on their phone and try to ask questions while STILL ON THEIR PHONE. or answer their phone as you're answering their question. i just walk away.
also, spoiled college kids who lay on our couches and put their feet up, and people who ask "so, what ELSE do you do?", implying there's no possible way i could actually earn a living tattooing!
