  1. Worked on my front today with my boss/mentor, Josh Cruse. Adding a tail for the snake next month, as well as more snake details (I assume scales) and hopefully starting color. EDIT: and once I can avoid insect bites on my forearm during the dog days of summer living in the country, I'll post my Stefano ship from June. Had a few ingrown hairs, then got eaten alive by mosquitoes after some recent rain storms... should be later this week.
  2. Instagram photo of a few new things in the works... First design for a sheet based on The Addams Family and one based on the new Queens of the Stone Age video for a friend of mine.
  3. I'm not referring to pop culture film critics, necessarily. Their job is just to move papers, get web hits, or draw television numbers. I'm speaking more towards criticism of fine art. If you look back, the names that have lasted have done so generally because their work was downright better than the works of others. Just like Ed Hardy was a far better tattooer than Royboy, Michelangelo was absolutely a better painter than Vasari. Hence, Vasari is known for his chronicling the history of art in his time and before, and Royboy is known for being a colorful character, rather than an amazing tattooer. I'm not saying that all opinions, especially contemporary opinions to the work being discussed, are unanimous. However, like I said before, it is an uninformed idea to say that any and all art forms are 100% subjective.
  4. If art was truly subjective, critics wouldn't have a job, Vasari's work as a painter would be as respected as Michelangelo's, and the lady selling kitten shrinky dinks at the flea market would exhibit with Pollock, Rembrandt, and Hirst. That being said, those shrinky dinks might have a bit more technical appeal than some of Pollock's work, or Hirst's spin paintings.
  5. Broken skate deck I painted for an art show recently... no one bought it, so I guess it's going on my wall now.
  6. No matter what, Starburst and Gatorade are my usual refreshments during a tattoo... replaced the Gatorade with Lucozade or a Coke when I was overseas. I usually just eat something quick before smaller tattoos, provided I have the time. For long sittings, though, I definitely go for a good sized lunch... steak or seafood are a high priority in those scenarios.
  7. Can't wait to see these... just watching the trailer, it hit me how amazing it was to get to go there this summer. As some random kid from the middle of America, seeing all of the walls, getting tattooed by Jordan and Stefano, being there for Dante and Lal Hardy's banter one day, and (as important as the quality of the tattoos) everyone being so nice almost seems like a dream. Hopefully, the next time I'm there, I can hear another of Jordan's "hori-" jokes, and Stewart may have his hair in pigtails again.
  8. Not quite along the lines of most of the thread, but this is a sculpture I just finished for a local skateboard art show. Each deck does have a tattoo design stenciled onto it, except two that have some lettering in a taped off graffiti sort of style. This was just after the first test ride... I'll try to link to my buddy's Instavideo of it as well. Instagram I think I have a group shot of most of the boards, as well as a few more photos in action, if anyone would like to see them as well.
  9. This one is on a guy who came in to get some family crests on his forearms. Last time he got tattooed was just after boot camp in San Diego, about 40 years ago. He couldn't remember who did it, but said that it was drawn on with a ballpoint pen. He had the lettering added a few weeks after the main image.
  10. In relation to MRI issues, remembered this from a few years back...
  11. If I were to stick to just one, it would only be if I were doing a full Japanese bodysuit. That being said, it would be a very difficult choice between Stewart Robson, Mike Rubendall, and Horitomo... I'll say Stewart, though. Once my front is finished and my back is at least outlined, I plan on having Stewart and Mike each do a leg from thigh to knee, so I hope to have at least have a good chunk of tattooing from each of them.
  12. One I finished up a week or two ago... @youthcrewalex That skull is insane!
  13. It might have been considered a bad idea because, even with all the advice against homemade tattoos we could possibly give in the process of documenting them, including them would seem like approval of the concept.
  14. Slight variant on the tattoos done after the original... found this guy while looking at various sukajyan tonight. The Gomineko Books Instagram has had too many for me not to be interested... mind you, they didn't post this one. The article it was listed in mentioned that it would look at home in Shige's sketchbook, so it's not just me.
  15. @Iwar It most definitely is a City and Colour tattoo. I have a Sensible Heart tattoo on the other arm as well... One of my favorites for sure.
  16. One of the tattoos from the London Trip... photo and tattoo by Stefano C. at Frith Street. Great experience, amazing tattoo, and I got to go back three days later for matching tattoos with my fiancee from Jordan Teear. I'll have photos of those and a full shot of this one when I get home this weekend. p.s.- Thanks to their staff for being patient while I mulled over which shirts I was going to bring back for the homies... as well as telling me how to find Honest Burger. It was too good.
  17. Blurry Instagram shot of the first tattoo of the trip... It's very difficult to photograph all of your toes at once, especially when your outer toes sort of round off. Tommy Ryan, Bullman's Tattoo in Limerick, Ireland.
  18. We have plans of stopping by a fair few shops in London, as well as All Star, if only to check them out. Depending on how my budget goes, we'll see how things go. Gotta have some money in my pocket for curry cheese chips and Irn Bru.
  19. Leaving for Ireland and the UK today. Appointments with Stefano and Jordan next Thursday and Sunday, respectively, and a few others to go on my legs as well. Photos will probably be on here when I return stateside.
  20. I hear more frequently that people hate needles, but don't mind getting tattooed. Personally, I can't watch when I have blood drawn (other people, it's not a bother). I think for the people who have that mindset, it comes down to a mental difference between the two... outside of an irrational phobia, people tend to think of one as some cold piece of steel jabbing into their artery, where as the other is a surface nuisance. Tell them the number of needles on the set up you're using, though, and some people will still get a bit freaked out.
  21. Bought my first set of machines from Kevin recently, after starting to see some incoming cash flow during my apprenticeship. They run like a dream... definitely going to have to get some more from him. (they were the Minor Threat ones he posted a bit ago, if you're wondering)
  22. Doesn't seem like something he'd be up for. I'd imagine if he were putting out shirts, they'd probably be available on his website as well... they are not.
  23. Scott Sparks is getting his face tattoos lasered off... Troy Denning posted an image in reference to it on the 'Gram the other day. Kids these days.
