  1. I realise this thread has sort of died, but incase anyone wants to see what a Sento looks like here are some photos. My friends Grandpa operated the bath house until the area got a built up and a bit more modern (houses started to get their own baths) and closed it. Its still connected to his house though and thats where we showered.

His grandson (my mate) mentioned to me that his grandpa was the only sento owner in the area that would let Yakuza in since most of them where his friends since childhood. I wish I could get copies of some of his old photos!

I'll be back in Osaka/Kyoto in 3 weeks to visit The Cat Claw Tattoo-z so I'll try and get copies of Grandpas' old yakuza photos. Photo 3 is the 'Male side' of the bath house (sorry for the bad light)

  2. Hori is Japanese for engraver, meaning a tebori artist. Even Japanese artists do that same thing. Horiyasu is a good tattooer but not a true horishi. It's become now here in japan if you do Japanese tattooers you add a hori.

Cheers for shedding some more light on this for me Capt. I knew Hori was japanese for engraver/carver but was unaware of how significant it was or wasn't? But it is something I am interested in finding out more about.

  3. Not exactly the same deal, but along very similar lines -

I stumbled across a European artists blog recently, and although the artists doesn't do Tebori (as far as I know) he does have a Japanese 'Hori' name and has even started a tattoo family. Nothing really abnormal there, except that he goes on to say that he's never studied under a Japanese master? Now I'm not saying this artists work is bad, far from it, its quite well done. Just not sure what to think about people giving themselves names that are meant to be passed on once you reach a standard and are steeped in tradition (from what I know anyway)

  4. I have to admit I'm now really curious to join... I just don't know how much juggalove reaches Australia... mind you, that does make the trolling possibilities endless... I mean who doesn't like to "chill wit da homiez'. This is gold!! I really should be doing Uni work but, I just can't look away...

  5. OOH NO YOU DID NOT!!! You might as well have just called this: "Andy Perez, the thread"

    Heere We Gooooo!

This pic is awesome! The others are also, but I just love the look on his/her face here, priceless!

Here is one of the few photos I have of my old Kitteh. I bought her for my Ex and she took her when we broke up. It sucks, I loved that damn cat!! She had one of the loudest motors I've ever heard on a cat, and it didn't matter what you or her where doing, but she had to be in the room with you - there where no closed doors in 'her' house lol.

  7. The first Lina Stigson lady head is my wifes favourite.

She tried for a booking at this years London Tattoo convention, but unfortunately Lina was fully booked. :(

The first is easily one of my favorites also, I think its the eyes... although everything about it is perfect

Jade, me thinks you and the wifey may have to make a trip to The Dam! ;)

  8. For myself personally, the lower arms have always been a breeze no matter what. Its as if I almost glide into the studio looking forward to those sittings! Outer arm and top of my shoulder where also relatively easy...

Someone once told me that the elbow was really really painful (just incase - really), and so before we started the session that would hit that area I asked my mate who was tattooing me what he thought. He said "it doesn't hurt... it just feels wrong". So an hour or so into it, he's moved my arm into position and I knew what was coming, or at least thought I did... I looked up at him, didn't need to say a word (the weird look on my face would have said much more than words could have) he looked at me and just said "told you". It didn't hurt, it just felt wrong...

Oh and my calf was a breeze, BUT the friend who did that piece has one of the lightest touches I've ever come across

  10. Thanks people!

@ Gouge - Cheers! Very aware of Trevors' work, the guy is crazy good and its a goal to get something from him sooner rather than later

@ Lochlan - thanks mate and cheers for what you do for the forum!

@ Bigjoe - Brisbane is about 2 1/2 hours by plane which isn't that far, but it doesn't make it easier either haha. I have a 3/4 sleeve done by my homie Stooks while he was @ Westside Tattoo in Brisbane (Amazing shop!). Doing Stuff here is a link to said sleeve and his Tumblr. I've also had work done by my good friend Luke Muller @ True Love Tattoo (Brisbane - Also amazing) and have just started my other sleeve with Horinao @ The Cat Claw Tattoo-z in Kyoto. Will be back there end of August and I am itching to say the least! haha

  11. Hi everyone, I'm Micheal from Brisbane, Australia. Came across the forum today, did some lurking, read some great threads and thought "this is the place for me".

I'm a collector of mostly Japanese style work, but still have a party leg for everything/anything else that may come up ;)

Cheers to the moderators and crew who put this forum together and I look forward to all the shits and giggles to come!
