  1. Is no one selling tattoo magazines anymore? I remember that they used to be filled with a pretty diverse array of styles in each issue. Has the intervebs finally ruined any sense of adventure for the masses?
  2. I think you should wear whatever makes you happy. I don't even remember the exact article content to clarify my statement. But folks should do what makes them happy and comfortable. Be classy, be trashy, don't let others dictate which you want to be.
  3. Stefano at last rites does nice work if you decide to look further into going there.

Wasn't there some theory that it was sirblazealot that made the bubbleberry account after being banned?
  5. Co-signed! Gabriel is for sure a good suggestion and there's definitely plenty of folks in that area that are more than capable. I mean its not like we're talking about some tiny town in the middle of the country that's 2 hours from a major city.
  6. Its time to go in to shops and start to check out them out. You might find more photos and possibly examples of folks work that is exactly what you're looking for...not everything end up on the internet. I've said it before but use it as a tool to narrow stuff down which you have. Now see which person you go talk to can accomplish your goal. There's plenty of capable folks in the areas you've mentioned. If its meaningful, it'll be worth all the effort involved.
  7. Why aren't people more upset with the vet?
  8. I got a sampler that came with an uncut magazine I think. It had a track and I always liked it and would put it on mix tapes/cds/playlists and several years ago that song started to really stick in my head more than before. Find myself humming the tune or get part of the lyrics stuck in my head so I started trying to track down more stuff. If it weren't for the internet, probably wouldn't have found anything since no stores I've been in have carried any.
  9. There's too much to type to explain the confusion over the mythology. Its not about tattooing being a subculture. Its about the various subcultures that get tattoos. You've had military, hot rod/kustom culture, bikers, punkers, greasers, juggalos, skinheads, thugs, etc. Now that includes people who are just interested in tattoos as being the common thing. Usually in the other social groups or subcultures, you can see a trend of common interests. So now I think people are overly trying to impose ideas on other groups because of their own internal struggle to find a common interest across the board with other tattooed folks in a different social class or subculture. Even when there is overlap or other common interests among like minded individuals, it doesn't and shouldn't dictate an assimilation of all thoughts. Someone who just wants a mark on their body won't share the same concern or interest as someone who wants a full body suit so they may not want to pay a reasonable price or an expensive price to just satisfy their desire. Educate the people who genuinely want to know. Let folks get bad tattoos if they want. It used to be that if you saw someone with a certain type of tattoo it was sometimes a form of communication. The style the content etc. So if I see someone with a cool tattoo that I like I might ask them who did it and if I just see someone who has lots of tattoos I might not even look twice. Because tattoos alone aren't what's going to signal me to a like minded person. So let's not try so hard to convert the unwilling. We need clear clues as to the message these folks are trying to send. I say this as simply observing for the last 20+ years of getting tattooed and the last 10 of doing them. There's still a good chance I'm confused or just full of shit but that's what I've noticed.
  10. It just sounds like this dudes hot girlfriend went and got tattooed with out him.
  11. I aint heard anybody talk about the book nook in over a decade. Rad.
  12. Murder By Death Austin Lucas Devotchka Tarentella Jay Munly Willard Grant Conspiracy Edit: might sound like an obvious one but Chuck Ragan's solo stuff is superb as well.
  13. So long as none of that "new-grass" gets posted. Blanche Slim Cessna's Auto Club (see them live if you ever have the chance...for real.) 16 horsepower Wovenhand Danny Barnes (one of the best banjo players ever) He was also in a band called Bad Livers Steve Earle Bruce Springsteen's nebraska and ghost of tom joad. Whiskeytown Tarnation Will Johnson Jason Isbell Uncle Tupelo Gillian Welch Neko Case Pine Valley Cosmonauts Giant Sand Calexico These are all real bluegrass: Hylo Brown (sang for flatt and scruggs) Reno and Smiley The Osborne Brothers Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper Roscoe Holcomb Jimmy Martin Doc Watson (not technically bluegrass but mountain music). Jim and Jennie and the Pinetops I've got loads more but....
  14. Its the approach that's off putting. Not here nor on the survey site is it stated with any clarity or purpose what the intentions of the study will be. Its a study for a univsersity paper, not a middle school report.
