@irezumi rad, and offers a proper perspective to learning. Studying an art or craft escapes those that view it from a pedestrian viewpoint. Its easy to assign opinions based solely on the repeating of what we've heard before. Which to me is ironic to the replication of imagery or patterns. Folks who are playing guitar in metal bands that have perfected their form of shredding might even be unaware of Al di meola and his invention of style but may have learned some Eddie van halen. Even when we learn we cannot find the beginning if we are always trying to be the magic sky wizard (god) and the creators of every thing we think is new. To create better things I had to remove that aspect of ego. Only then could I learn and it started with trying to repeat and understand what worked and why.
As always, quality contribution. Thanks for posting that.

You're willing to drive close to 15 hrs?
... How about as long as 16.5 hours? (Houston to Tempe AZ.... )
    It's well worth it.
Home to someone doing hands down the most amazing Japanese tattoos in the US.
    Anybody that knows, knows.
Anyone that knows would agree without thinking twice.

Do you have a car? Are you limited to public transportation.
Specifically, what do you want to get? Do you want to collect a few small tattoos or start a sleeve?
There are soooo many good tattooers in the city, in the boroughs , upstate , NJ etc.
Is that your entire tattoo budget or just to get started? I'm sorry to bombard you with questions but I think your answers will help us direct you better

True. Also true: @daveborjes is being humble right now, as he is a solid tattooer himself. And the last time I checked, Staten Island is part of New York.

I work at Gemini Tattoo in Odenton, MD (right across from Ft Meade Army base) but I am still in the apprentice stage! I am there a few evenings a week and all day on Saturday!
My mentor wanted me to keep my daytime job in DC....so I essentially work two full time jobs between my daytime job and the tattoo shop plus the "homework" and the painting and drawing I need to have done each week! I've had this crazy schedule for 17 months no....LOL
It's very possible that my Hubby and I could hop the subway one Monday when you are being tattooed and make the short walk over to Read Street!
How long are your sessions usually with Dana?

I really don't post up online too much of the things I have.....but I thought I would share this with everyone since it really is pretty cool!
Tux and Dennis did have some business with each other......not 100% sure what happened but that is another story...LOL
Since there seems to be a Maryland tattoo history undertone to this thread I will share my door......

This is an old photo of a Bali mask he did on my friend John, he has extensive work from Tux as well.

This is the flyer he gave me when we met; I looked really puzzled at 1991 when it was still October or November 1990 but I realized that he was printing them for the upcoming year.
    Or he was time traveling.
    Yup

No, wasn't Crazy John's. Had some generic name that I can't recall, this was in '92 or '93. @Bunny Switchblade I'm a little younger but not by leaps and bounds hah. I didn't meet Charlie but I did poke my head in there once to see what it was like. I wasn't as wowed as I was at Tux's; his shop looked like part antique shop part mystical shrine part tat shack so pretty much anything with wood paneling wasn't as interesting.
