  1. Thanks for the response SStu. I've seen quite a few sleeves on the interwebs where someone will have their forearm blacked out with the rest of the sleeve above it showing. I'd actually be very surprised if nobody on this forum has something like that.

    Certainly, but most of the ones I've seen involved more modern styles outside of the black area. Can't say I've seen anyone mix blackout with Japanese.

  2. Your answers are going to largely going to depend on the size of the piece, and the ability (or not) of the artist in question.

    If that particular style is paramount, then personally I'd be inclined to find an artist who does great (normally blackwork) woodcut tattoos and see if they are interested in including color.

  3. A good tattooist can make such a tattoo last, but a great tattooist won't get the lines too close together (providing long-term clarity). Your example above it pretty tight-knit - a little more than I'd want to receive . . .

    I'm not familiar with anyone in the mid-west who "specializes" in fine lacework, but there probably is a dozen or so who could pull it off.
