    Just came across this today. It's my man's back done by Jeff Rassier. It's almost done now, the picture is kind of old.
    Also can't wait to see that backpiece Stewart

    @Duffa, so much pissing going on in Australia..
    Back to the topic, getting tattooed Sunday and definitely bringing a small gift. The first session, I brought him some fruit from the farmer's market and he was super stoked.

    @gougetheeyes unfortunately as @ThaliaCamille said it all kind of evens out. Our housing market is one of the most over inflated in the world, plus food is actually pretty expensive compared to say Japan and from what I've heard, The States as two examples. But working conditions are pretty decent and minimum wage is something like $14/$15 for services? but all depends on industry etc. Some industry minimums can be more - mining for example.
    @kylegrey (in my normal accent, although possibly strained to emphasise that Australianism) "Nah mate, shes fair dinkum, I wouldn't piss in ya pocket or have a lend of ya, thats as mean as cats piss mate!" ;) actually, it'd be more like this - "nahmateshesfairdinkumIwouldntpissinyapocketorhavealendofyathatdbemeansascatspiss!"

    Skirts, kilts, robes, loin cloths, gotcha! Ha ha, perhaps I can ask a nurse friend of mine to grab me one of those patient gowns that tie down the back :p
    Thanks all, It does make sense to call the actual shop to make sure what they prefer but they've been busy with the SF Convention coming up so thought I'd do some homework on the side.
    Bill and Junii huh? Is her backpiece by one of them? Is this the reason why she hasn't finished hers? Ha ha.
    Looney bin material? What are you saying? You mean it's not going to make me more appealing to SF FiDi women in power suits? C'mon I'm their dream date. The whole money and claws bit. Ha ha ;)

    Did I mention that the robe in question was fairly Lebowski-esque?
    And anyone that decides to tattoo his or her entire ass is already looney bin material. :)

    No, no.... When I was getting my back done by Jill, my wife was also getting a fairly large piece from Junii, so every time we'd go by Diamond Club, they'd ask to see the progress on my back. They kept laughing and saying, "Wait until she does just below your cheeks!" Then they told me that they stretch that area the Horitoshi way--with the client on his or her back, holding their leg behind the knee to stretch it.
    Take a moment to picture that, then be grateful that you get to lie on your stomach.

    Man so this is is more a story about a story, but a few years ago I worked with my buddy Dave, who has been in the game FOREVER. Anyway LST's own Pat (gougetheeyes) and I were at the shop having a conversation along the lines of this thread, laughing about people passing out/shitting themselves etc. when from the back of the shop where Dave was drawing I hear him chime in;
    "had somebody die once"
    uh... EXCUSE ME!?
    "Yeah a girl, she died."
    He's shuffled over and started in like it was a cross between a campfire ghost story and the monologue from Jaws.
    "It was back in the 90's, Hawaii, 94 maybe? Anyway, crazy production shop sailors would come in, you'd work 12-15 hour shifts, go upstairs, sleep a few hours come back down, do it again. Make all your money for the next 6 months in 3 weeks. Anyways, it was one of those stretches I'd been going for hours, next tattoo was a girl, wanted a flower. She went into the bathroom, came out, and as she was walking to my chair she hit the floor. Dropped fucking dead. Paramedics came but she was blue, shot up in the bathroom before the tattoo, killed her. Fucked me up for a good bit. Good thing she didn't make it into my chair before she died, I probably woulda quit tattooing."
    Pat and I were in awe, and just like that Dave went back to his drawing. I don't think anyone said another word for about an hour.

    i had an older black couple come in wanting to get tattooed a few months ago that was quite memorable. the husband was a mute so his wife did all the talking and she informed me that he needed to get seven names on his forearm. not particularly caring to ask why so many names i went about preparing the design and attempting to communicate with him to find out exactly what he wanted, but basically the wife told him what he was getting and i started tattooing. as im on name number two i ask the lady, "are these the names of your children?" to which she replied, "no, they're all the names of my different personalities. i have multiple personalities." struggling not to bust out laughing i asked, "really? that's so interesting! when we're you diagnosed?" she said she had never been to a doctor or therapist but she just knew. the old man just sat there grinning and making weird noises as he was a mute. she stated that if he loved her he had to love all of her personalities, even the bad ones. "you don't want to meet mary lou!" was one of the more interesting things she said about her inner conflict of persons.
    before she left she said they would be back again because they couldn't afford to get all of them that day.

    I resent that our culture in the U.S. has gotten to the point where a tip is expected for every service, and that the "customary amount" keeps going up. My rule in restaurants was always 15% for average service, 10% for passable service, and 20% for good service. Now 20% is expected for crappy service, which seems skewed in the wrong direction.
    As for my tattoos, I've tipped the artist on each occasion, and did so willingly, because they did what I consider exemplary work, and made the experience absolutely fun. Still, in the first shop I resented the number of tipping signs they had scattered about the environment, as it did lead to a sense of obligation, rather than a sense of tipping from gratitude.

    @AlannaCA
    I completely agree, both movies were definitely worth the price of admission.
    I saw 50/50 with my mom, so I know what you mean about being kinda embarrassed with some of the dialogue, specifically Seth Rogen. But was still funny and was really moving near the end. I think just the idea of a child, no matter the age, getting sick, and you can't do anything about it, hits a parent pretty hard. The whole idea of it 'being out of your hands' really came through I think, especially near the end.
    Looking forward to: The Ides of March (George Clooney), The Rum Diary (Johnny Depp/Hunter S. Thompson), Hugo (Scorsese), J.Edgar (Leo/Eastwood), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Fincher/Saw the Original and liked it). Honestly, after that the only movie I am interested in is Lincoln (Spielberg/Daniel Day Lewis/Christmas 2012).

    Even though it's bloody and as fresh as can be, this picture will probably do the tattoo more justice than my crappy iPhone camera.

    As some of you know I visited San Francisco recently to get tattooed by Scott Sylvia, Tim Lehi and Grime. If you haven't seen it already you can check out my travelblog here: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/blogs/iwar/232-oslo-san-francisco-travel-blog.html
    My Scott Sylvia piece is as good as healed now, so I thought I'd start by sharing that one. The rest will be posted here as soon as they are healed and I get decent pictures. All I have to take photos with is my iPhone, so please excuse the mediocre quality.
