Well don't take it personal, I just hear people giving that advice often. For a mild burn I'd probably use witch hazel or aloe. For some kind of allergic reaction/rash/poison ivy/etc I'd use some type of cortizone and or an antihistimine. But that's just me. If its just a rash it doesn't need some type of medicated stuff on it. Overuse of such things can potentially lead to their ineffectiveness.
Also, the main reason I didn't recommend any of that stuff as a solution is the fact that I don't know what she's actually got going on as far as the rash. No pics of it and troubleshooting things over the internet like that aren't always going to offer an exact remedy.
If its any consulation to the original poster, I DID get poison ivy in a tattoo that was still healing up and it turned out ok. So I wouldn't stess too much about that aspect of it.

So, I went to see my artist this morning. He said I had more of a reaction to the tape they used than I did to the tattoo, which totally makes sense because it's right where the tape was after my tattoo was done. He said not to worry and also mentioned to not address them at the same time and lotion them up seperately between washes just to be on the safe side
I appreciate you all for helping me.

It shouldn't effect your tattoo, just put some ointment on the rash and you should be fine.

Biggest peeve would have to be being looked down upon.
It hasn't happened recently (since I'm more visibly tattooed now), but when jeans and a t-shirt covered all my tattoos, there were a few shops I went into where I was treated like an imbecile or a joke based on appearance alone. I can't stand being condescended to, and I sure as hell wont spend money for the pleasure.

Has anyone thought of possibly cleaning up threads. Maybe delete threads that have been inactive for a certain amount of time that only one have one or two pages of replies. I know it's a big task, but I think if it was kept up, some older threads would be revived instead of starting new threads on topics. Also maybe have a tattoo advice version of latest tattoo lowdown, just one big thread for all the times people start a thread and the only thing they need to do is go into a shop. Those threads could be merged into it, as they pop up.
I know it's a little off topic, but since we are talking about the forum.
I think if tattooers want a special section on this site, I wouldn't care if it meant they hung around more. But @dari, tattooers should have to be approved by mods before gaining access to it. But that would mean a tattooer would have to step up and be a mod of that part of site.

I have a very similar story, did them myself, and have the same views you do about it now =P Id never get these covered (at this point in time), they are above short line so i dont care too much and they have some meaning to me now.that and they are nowhere near as bad as some I've seen. most id do is have someone touch em up.

@Kahlan No lecture here, everyone else seems to have done a great job of that. Just some straight up info:
At the shop I work in (Which may or may not have a reputation on being harsh to 'wannabes') we get at least one person each week asking for an apprenticeship. In the summer months we get AT LEAST two per week, often more.
Aside from the fact than none of them can draw and most haven't been tattooed at our shop, - I'm not even sure if any of them know what kind of work we do (hint: almost everything) they certainly don't look through any of our folios while they are in the shop. - There is no way that our city can support 52 to 104 new tattooers each year. I've been there since 2007. That would be over 800 new tattooers.
But really, shitty tattooers should stop taking apprentices and helping them become shitty tattooers. If a good tattooer won't teach you, tough shit. If a good tattooer does teach you, I hate you because I never got that chance and I did a whole bunch of shitty tattoos while I was 'learning'.

And that's the pompous attitude I'll never understand. Who says that the people that walk in the door haven't been struggling? Why assume?
But it's ok to you that just because you happen to know an artist they'll give you a shot?
    I guess we're different.
I believe in teaching others and educating people into doing the right thing.
It just gets under my skin when professionals complain about people starting off in their basements, when it's almost a one in a million shot you'll get someone to teach you.
Anyway... I guess I'm just frustrated. I have no time to socialize and hang out in shops like I did when I was 14.
The *way* they want people to do things is a little unrealistic for me BECAUSE of the fact I'm working my ass off to get to where I wanna be!

I suddenly feel like a leper after reading this thread.
Traditional tattoos are wonderful and I appreciate the history. But what's wrong with evolving? These changes will happen as the industry gets bigger.
Maybe it's because I'm an artist myself, but I love realism. It's definitely the kind of tattoo artist I want to be one day. Someone mentioned traditional would actually be *harder* than realism... no offense that's a little ridiculous to me.
Sure I haven't had mine for 20+ years but it still looks amazing. You just have to take care of your skin...just like anything else on your body..
Even if I need touch-ups one day I would feel like it's worth it, considering the amount of skill that goes into it.
Not saying the same talent doesn't go into traditional!
Just kinda feels like people are hating on such an amazing style..

After all but one of my tattoos from a particular guy, he's said something along the lines of "yea, I really like how that came out, I'm gonna need a picture of that one" and used his personal phone to take a picture. The one time he didn't do that, he said he liked how it turned out and used the shop camera. He also commented that he enjoyed the subject matter I choose, because it tends to be classic traditional style tattoos, with a unique twist.
That being said, I also wonder sometimes whether he says that kind of thing to everyone, or pulls out his personal phone and acts as of that tattoo is special, to make them feel even better about the tattoo they just got.
ALL of that being said, I'm always super pumped with the stuff he puts on me, and always feels he gives his 100%, so at the end of the day I'm not too worried about whether he's super into the images or not.

Ive been wondering this for awhile now and was wondering if an artist says they are excited to do a piece on you if they are genuine in saying that or they just say that to every one of their clients. (My artist always tell me he is excited to do my pieces, but i think it could be because we both enjoy the content i get) has anyone else wondered this?

I think Stewart Robson described it best in his interview when he wanted checkers across his arm, chest, etc. and ended up with Steve Byrne iirc. Although it probably wasnt the style of tattooing Steve might have preferred or even wanted to do, he still gave a shit, applied himself to the best of his abilities, stood back, eyed it up, looked at composition, rhythm, flow until he was happy with it and then did it.
Whether the tattoo/artist is straight up and simple "you pick em, I stick em" style or its a big custom piece, or adding to a blank spot on the arm that has previous work, a genuine tattooer will look at all the variables and fine tune it to the point where they are happy with where it is, how it sits, how its works with other work, etc.
