  1. Occasionally young kids come into the shop with huge throat tattoos, massive stretched ears, hands and knuckles done.and they're only 20-23... And I can't help but ask them "what do you do for a living?" sometimes the answers surprise me lol. One turned out to be a fisherman.lol - - - Updated - - - *shudder*

    hey y'all!

Welcome, from one msg board newbie to another:)
  3. That is a fantastic idea. I like that idea. specials and flash days arent what i was referring to..i meant a discount of general services for promotional purposes. But these specials = great shop ideas.. I am really liking the daffodile tattoo thing
  4. This was not one of those cases.. I don't want to get too specific (small world) it just caught me off guard..general sale. lol
  5. I'm glad I'm not alone in my sentiment!!! I didn't want to come across as an arse.. it just seemed very tacky when I witnessed it..no ill will ment...
  6. Though rare (as it is not really an industry standard), I am seeing it -. I get that this is a business, tattooing - but this just does not seem right.. like a plastic surgeon having a sale on implants.lol... I know it's common to discount for a good client or knock a little off the hourly rate for a long sitting, and or for a 'portfolio piece' that the artist just really wants to do, however, blatantly advertising a "sale" on the radio is a different story.. Personal opinion - no offense meant. Thoughts? Would love your take on this... Does this happen in your area?
  7. Well..I've never written a blog entry before but this is as good a time as any. I'm an apprentice..And as I read through posts about people having a hard time getting an apprenticeship I can't help but feel ridiculously fortunate to be in my position.. I have a university degree that I obtained doing what other people said I should do with my life.. worked my ass off.. then followed my heart.. I worked 3 jobs.. day job, side job, and working for free at the shop almost every evening..did all I could to help out, watch, learn, lug, clean, run errands..anything I could..and I loved every single minute of it just feeling greatful to have a shot at learning from a great artist that I respect as both a tattooer and a person. I'm getting going into what I would call the beef of my apprenticeship now things are progressing and it's an exciting adventure every day that I do not take for granted. My only reservation is networking with other artists- which is why I am here on last sparrow. I'm in a small town, and it is definitely clicky in this area with artists.. I'm fairly introverted socially and reserved until i get to know people..so I just keep quiet on that level.lol. This is a more comfortable way for me to do that :) Would love to network and see other folks work ( i always love seeing art/different takes and approaches on things) as for me i'll just be plugging away daily trying to learn as much as I can and improve my art as much as possible Cheers
  8. When I see posts like this I really want to support a fellow artist by checking out their work etc - I love to see that kind of passion - is there a online portfolio etc?:) I"m a newb to forums..well..since like.early...2000s..lol

    So classic. loving it
  10. Good to see someone speaking out about the attitude issues in the community.. it is really a growing problem.. Kudos to you for making mention and being the bigger person
  11. ...*facepalm*... my first tattoo(that i did) was on my own foot (putting needle to skin i just..didnt want to subject anyone else, i knew how they should feel..gave me a good judge of pressure and now im fairly gentle handed)..it was script..and its still totally legible with smooth lines, spacing, etc..... I do not understand how someone can screw up that badly., it makes absolutely no sense to me.. yes i had professional help etc..but regardless..eeeeeeeeeeeven if you were to YOUTUBE proper machine set up???it should go better than THAT.... sigh...not that i condone that either..but there is enough info on the internet at this point to make that crap completely completely inexcusable.. natural. selection.
  12. here the trends are silhouettes of birds.. "believe" tattoos , "heart of a lion" tattoos, and there are monthly people coming in to get yesteryear's tweety bird tattoos covered up... sigh. dumbest recently...honestly sometimes the dumb tattoos are the coolest lol. in a new school way...its just the trend tattoos that are kinda like "really?" but hey..who am i to judge.
  13. there..are..no ..words.... a lot of shops here won't do name tattoos..for this kind of reason... I have no issue with it but that's pretty ....rediculous as a rule?I just do not condone facial tattoos unless you are in the industry.
  14. Sailor Jerry released flashbooks.. I think on some level that makes it different. I completely understand the issue if you put your best into designing something and then someone copies it.. When a client brings our shop a design of that nature we reference but change it.. no direct replica's ..just not good ethics...especially considering that the style of each tattooer is different.
  15. I may next year - this year I am covering while one of the other guys goes. But I think I may. We have some AMAZING artists in NB . people really sell this province short. I'm pretty introverted.. thats all .lol. Not saying anything negative about anyone..I realized my post may've come across that way. And they're not all arseholes.. just some...but enough to make me warry.. I think conventions would be less socially inbred..so a good place to network .. small town issues.lol

    Anchor and Crown

    Loving the color saturation
  17. we use derma skin post tattoo to send the clients out with and we recommend h2ocean products - i personally am a fan of using spectrogel for sensitive skin to cleanse it with and moisturizing with scent free curel- but im stuck in my ways and allergic to tonnness of things so a bit wary of trying things that are new... once healed i like vitamin 3 cream
  18. A guy came into the shop the other day and wanted color added to a full sleeve of jail tattoos.. We were wary of doing it.. but I was ridiculously impressed with the detail and smoothness of the greywash.. I really don't know what they were using? Pen ink I am going to assume..but whoever did it clearly knew how to deposit into the skin... Terrifies me every time i see a jail tat in a world with other options.. this sleeve was legit prison work...not just people trying it prison style.. but the work was better than a lot i have seen come from local shops. Made me wonder!
  19. I wholeheartedly agree to the need to respond.. Much like "Jargin" we get really accustomed to how things are done on our end but our clientele are why we are in business -AND they often (especially new to tattoo clients) do not understand our side of things. In a business where much of our trade is guarded we really cannot expect them to... I don't understand the ins and outs of building a house when I talk to a carpenter - Im sure i sound ignorant with questions I ask.. We get a lot of people coming to the shop because we are pretty good about that kind of thing (understanding that they don't really..get it..and thats okay with us we just work with them) when other artists make them feel stupid.. i think the attitude there is a growing issue.. No arguments ment:) all in good discussion.. My pet peeve is when someone tells me they "just want a simple tattoo"...and it is fully geometric and or something that looks basic, but is in no way simple to actually apply.. Which i guess harkens back to tolerance.. lol..which i exercise..with a small eye twitch:P - - - Updated - - - I hate the pretentiousness that is growing in this field... Respect the people who give you a job.. you don't need to take on every tattoo - no tattooer has to do that.. but at least be courteous to folks.. just because you can tattoo, does not mean you gave a god given right to act like you're above the person with the inquiry... that attitude is my #1 issue with the tattooing world..
  20. Me too- but its honest. No reason to hold back from inspiring people to actually think though.. I hate that publishers hold back from publishing anything that might result in a thought or two (or that is the experience i have had with the mainstream & typical. I am well aware there are many that specialize in just that) - - - Updated - - - bahhaha that is perfect
