I've been seeing a lot of heads with the faces replaced with things like staircases or outer space. Been seeing a lot more hand poked work this year, and a lot of tattoos with backgrounds in various geometric shapes.

I talked once with Yoni about doing the rest of my right arm, so from just above the elbow down, and I still want to do that, but I'm not really going to have enough available money to do that until I have my back done, so that's probably a year or two off. Besides, I'd prefer not to travel to do my back--travelling to do a sleeve was enough for me--especially when there are guys like Dave working locally.

Ah yeah, that makes a lot of sense. For some reason I had it in my head that it was a backpiece.

8-12 mos for a consultation. Which is the perfect amount of time for me because it's enough to plan accordingly but not so very far away. I'm really excited and nervous, haha

That's really stunning, and epic for a first tattoo! I hope your dad takes is well and is supportive. But so what if he's not? You've had the courage to go for a strong, large piece that is personally meaningful, and you've done that for yourself alone.

Just posting to echo the other sentiments about how I would have never gotten any of my first tattoos if I had the option to do it all over again at this point in my life. I don't hate any of them, just would have gotten better shit. You'll probably feel the same way, but that's your call! Definitely urge you to start small. A back piece is no joke for your first tattoo, and especially at 18.
