I think it's pretty simple and I'll use myself as an example.
Do you have a personal relationship with the imagery that you are getting tattooed?
I have three japanese tattoos that I got during my apprenticeship. One is a daruma on my inner bicep, and it has the kanji for "ginou" which means "technical skill." I got the daruma with the intention of one day becoming a technically skilled craftsman and I will probably never fill in the other eye because there is always room to grow.
The other two are designs that I picked from a book called "Japanese Design Motifs." and they are circular designs that sit on my inner forearms. They're floral, black only, and they're very beautiful; I get compliments on them all the time. Maybe a year later I learned that these motifs are actually Mon, which are the equivalent to family crests in Japan. I am not Japanese. I feel like shit about it and I want to get them covered up. I have even asked Jill Bonny about them and if I would offend anyone going to Japan with these on my arms. She said that it doesn't matter because the rules don't apply to westerners, but I'm probably going to get them covered anyway.
The daruma isn't cultural appropriation because I have a personal relationship with daruma as a symbol and a means of accomplishment within my own life. The Mon are appropriative because I took one look at the designs, thought "oh that looks cool, I'll get that tattooed" without any further thought or investigation into what they actually represent.

I haven't. But it looks awesome. I can see how they are connected.
If you play the first Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, there are a couple colossus' (colossi?) you have to take on, which is a good deal of fun.
I've never played any of the Castlevania series, everyone is always telling me about them! I also don't have much time for video games these days :(
-
I wish they would do another one of those games. It was a lot of fun.
Right!! Taking epic to another level.
Also not the same sort of gameplay, but did you ever play Ico?

The first tattoo I did on myself was the glyph from Shadow of the Colossus... lolol
it looks like shit.

Watched the episode last night. Woof. Finally. However, I fear the fate of the homey Tyrion.
Ugh tell me about it :(

I use this extension on my web and mobile browsers, has done me no wrong
I know you don't have to register to use project free tv, but they do have a lot of ads hosted so I'd recommend installing ABP before using it.

I just want to say that watching Jeoffrey's stupid squidgey face choke to death last episode was deeply gratifying for me, and such a long time coming. Long live the king, ehehehe

@cltattooing I would love to meet some of you! I am going to see OM on Wed night (April 16th) at the Great American MusicHall if any of you are going to be there. Or just to hang out in the gorgeous weather sometime, that could be fun too.
Jasmin
I'm going to be working that night so unfortunately no dice for OM although they would be amazing to see. I also love the GAMH, ridiculously cool venue.
But yes, that would be grand! Coffee perhaps? I'll PM you my number.

Completely ignoring most mainstream media publications on topics of pop culture has saved me a lot of frustration as a general rule. Reading that article helped remind me why I do that.

Hahahahahahahaha, holy fuck this is such blarney. I dunno if any of you noticed how they cut out the video right before the circle was joined but if anyone did notice, it was because the line trajectory didn't come to the origin point. I honestly don't think that anything like this will ever take off. Tattooing involves such an immense amount of critical thinking and on-the-spot decision making. Not to mention adjusting technique for various skin types, stretching the skin, adjusting needle depth per area of the body, and any other number of important variables.
Waste of money.

in a few of the LST interviews, Scott Sylvia has mentioned something along the lines of "you can't trust a tattooer with good tattoos." this obviously isn't true across the board, since there are many great tattooers with GREAT tattoos... but the point is well taken.
only good tattoos*

I've been getting pierced from a very young age and plan to get other piercings in the future. I don't really understand the puritanism when it comes to the cross-over between tattooing and piercing. I mean I don't think that tattooers should pierce and that piercers should tattoo because they are both very specialized, attention-demanding, and separate crafts. I guess that I mean that the judgement directed toward piercing from tattoo culture is stupid and hypocritical. Conversely, I think that a lot of the holier-than-thou "contemporary shamanism ideal" that many piercers indulge is also fucking stupid. Live and let live and whatnot.
Anyway, I've been getting piercings from the ages of 6-21 and if it weren't for getting pierced, I wouldn't have landed my apprenticeship.
Currently I have both nostrils, my septum, conch, both ears at 9/16" and my labret which I don't wear jewelry in anymore due to dental health issues. My goal for my ears is 5/8", I'd like to do my other conch and second lobes, and probably nipples if I can ever get over the horrifying idea of putting a needle through my nipple. Twice. Fuck.

@slayer9019 that is a crazy ass field, many props! For some reason I feel like being heavily tattooed is a totally acceptable thing to be in the security field.
-
I think it looks great as is. I'm also of the persuasion that when in doubt, add more black.
