  1. @misterJ yeah, it's all worth it for sure :-) But nearing completion already has me thinking about the next project... dangerous thoughts ;-)
  2. Well, my backpiece was started 4 months ago, and is already nearing completion. After day after a session I was looking forward to the next session, but everytime when that time came, and the needle hit my back somewhere I thought 'Why did I want a backpiece?!' 'Luckily' putting the lines in was pure hell for me, so everything else after that is like a breeze (well... it still hurts like hell on my back and ass ;-) )
  3. I always shave the night before an appointment, in the shower, this way i have the least change of a rash or whatever and is the skin 'calm' after the shaving. Tattooing alone is enough trauma to the skin, it doesn't need the red burning and itching feeling from a dry shave before we even start tattooing (and i think it's a waist of time doing it in the tattoo shop (and i've got plenty of hair so it takes a while to shave ;-) )
  4. Well, that concludes the contest for this month :D
  5. It's been six weeks since the last session, but today we finally got to continue on my back. At first we just wanted to do the colouring of the Kitsune, but we even managed to put all the blue in the coat. All this was done 4 hours (of agony :) ).
  6. @Chap I hope you get through it okay today :) The good news is, after finishing the lining everything else (shading, coloring) will be a 'breeze' :) Lining my back was 5 hours of pure hell, but i can get through the shading and coloring sessions without much troubles.... thankgod :)
  7. Tattooing over my surgery scar was a bit more painfull, but not much... but my scar was something like 10 years old when it got tattooed over. Healing was no different than the surrounding skin.
  8. I have a surgical scar from a shoulder injury (from a crash with a roadbike). This is a picture the day after surgery The scar didn't heal very nicely (as you can probably imagine from that picture ;-) ) And this picture a couple of minutes ago, you can still see a part of the scar without ink, and you can see the covered part. I also have some road rash on my elbowd, which is now covered by my sleeves.
  9. Ladies and Gentleman, we've got (some) color  Tonight we managed to do a 3.5 hour session of mostly greens and red. Unfortunatly we can't continue until the end of may... A six week break after 3 months of bi-weekly sessions... how am I going to survive that?! :p
  10. And here's my progress picture of today. It doesn't seem like much has happened, but my ass thinks otherwise :) Today the shading on my leg was finished, the black 'diamonds' in the clothes, and that large patch of black on my ass :) Next time (in two weeks) we are going to start with some color
  11. And here we are again :) Today/tonight was the 4th session, this time 3 hours, I could have gone longer but my artist needed to pick up a guest artist from the airport. Anyway we still made good progress, my other side is now completely shaded as is my right left. Next session we are going to do the rest of the shading on my left leg, and on my ass (ouch! : ) ) and put some black in the clothing, and then we're done with the black and its onto color!
  12. What's there to explain? Just show her the pictures, that's all it takes ;-) (Btw, my next session is this thursday, so expect new picture(s) :)
  13. Like I said earlier, its just normal wound fluids, there will be some ink in it, but nothing to worry about. The saran wrap i take off the next morning also have 'black' fluid in it, and when we start with color the fluid will also have some color probably.. Even a day later i have some small black stains in my bed sheets, even though the tattoo was dry during the day. Again, don't worry, the tattoo looks fine.
  14. Looks normal to me, just regular wound fluids. I normally put on saran wrap for the first night and the wrap is usually pretty soaked in the morning. Don't worry, just give it a wash a couple of times a day and leave it alone as much as possible, you'll be fine :)
  15. Well, we didn't manage to make it 5 hours, I gave up after 3.5 hours :) But we did cover a lot of skin in those three and half hours, so I think we did OK :) Next session in two weeks... can't wait ;-)
  16. Great looking snake man! I've got another appointment in 1.5 hours.. hopefully we can do a 5 hour shading session :)
  17. Yeah, I already have a couple of appointments booked at a two week interval. At first I was planning to go slow on my backpiece (because of the cost :) ) and had planned to finish it somewhere next year, but then I heard my tattooer is planning on moving back to Argentina or possibly moving to Spain so that plan changed rather quickly :-)
  18. Yesterday afternoon/evening we did another session, this time just 3 hours. We did the outline of botan, so the outlining is now finished (thank god!), and we started on some shading. Next session is in 2 weeks, we hope to do a five hour shading session then ;-)
  19. Don't forget my favorite Kuniyoshi : Kadzusa no Suke Hirotsune battling with the nine-tailed fox on Nasu Moor (which is going on my back ;-) )
  20. I also have this book, and I think its great. It has a LOT of very good/big pictures, and all of the interviews/stories are very interesting, but the stories get a little repetitive as they all seem to have gone through the same process, but that it to be expected i guess.
  21. I had the same yesterday, we had to take a brake a couple of times because i couldn't stop shaking, and today i'm sore all over, every muscle in my upper body feels like a had a fitness session yesterday :)
  22. I also posted this in the backpiece thread, but i'm soo stoked i just had to put it in here too :-) Well, Since today I am an official member of the Back piece squad :) We had a (pretty brutal) 5+ hour start of my backpiece, we managed to finish all the lining (except for the big flower that need to go on my upper legs). Next session will be for lining the flowers and the rest of the leg part, and to start shading... I can't wait ;-)

  24. I'm in the same boat as you, only my appointment is in 1.5 hours :-) I'm gonna wear some sweatpants that can be easily pulled down, and i'm going to take a vest or something that i can put on on the front so my chest and arms stay warm if i'm freezing :-)
  25. I am man! :) I'm dying to see what he will come's up with design wise. It is going to be a full back piece going down onto my upper legs so we've got a long way to go :) - - - Updated - - - My back will be done by Bonel (Instagram) of Corazon Santo in The Netherlands, he also did both my sleeves.
