  1. All solid advice given! We are extremely lucky to have such an amazing pool of talented artists in our area...its ridiculous. After you decide on the particular Japanese style you like and artist, be prepared to wait. The wait is well worth it in the end.

Half Back done by Yokohama Horiken of State of Grace Tattoo in San Jose, California.

Unfortunately the camera on the phone doesn't do it much justice. :P

    No worries...great piece!

  3. Hello. My name is Allen and I'm new to the forums. Currently have 1 tattoo. Fuu Dog half-back. Looking to get several more. Got into tattoos through art and loved much of the talent and originality tattooists have. I joined this forum just to learn more and hopefully get more ideas for the next piece that is going to be inked on my body.

    Welcome Allen!

  4. @Cork thanks! Seems like every time he is at Northstar, I go there the Saturday afterwards. Dana is an amazing artist and he has been doing a killer job on your back piece...congrats again on the progress. Maybe I will get to see him if he comes up to NY for the convention in March.

Hopefully one session of sumi black to go for the koi in the end of March and then onto color in April. Feels great to have the background done. Oh by the way...think you mentioned earlier...have a new reference for pain when getting work done...it was livable but that rotary was humming ;)

  5. @ironchef thanks brother! Rotary was tickling nice in the love handle region. Got to hand it to you for pulling 7 hour session..real tough.

Once January is here or he has a cancellation spot open in December I should be able to finish out background and black work over the next 3 sessions. Koi is going to be all black as well with red in the fins just like my arms. Can't wait for that to happen!

  6. I didn't want to start going off topic in the "Latest Tattoo Lowndown", but seriously I love those thick lines. Koji Ichimaru does lines like that too and it looks damn fantastic. Already digging the potential theme of those robes too!

@Cork big thanks!!! Going bold and extremely classic with the color palette. Koji is an amazing artist...anything he does can be read from across the street...love it. Thanks again.

So @ironchef the backpiece is really starting to come along! Those finger waves healed beautifully and I absolutely love the color of the scales on the dragon. Was that your choice or Mikes? I can't wait to see the update on this after Henning gets some more time on it. You going for multiple sessions while he is here or just another 6 hrs? @MikeL, that back piece is looking good and I love the thick line work. When it gets colored in it's really going to pop.

I will be starting on mine with Chris January 23 2014 at Kings Ave NYC. Pushed the start date ahead a year because I've been working like a dog doing a ton of OT at work. Social life has taken a hit but it will be well worth it. I'm all kinds of giddy and nervous at the same time.

Thanks you very much! Should be hitting color in the beginning of 2014.

LOVE Melo's work! Great looking sleeves and back piece you have!

    Thanks man!!!

    Mike
