@CABS Yeah, she did come off as real laid back, and not very talkative.but I thought at least Troy didn't interrupt her and let her answer his questions.Troy had a better rapport with the other girls, but I think he's got ADHD and he can't help himself and interrupt's when their trying to answer his question.I think he should have Garver do the interviews. He seems to be more laid back, and he's probably a better listener.

Listened to the first episode, and the Garver interview was the best part.Yesterday I listened to episode 4 bad women tough tattoos. My only gripe is that Troy will ask the person a question, they will start to answer, and he will interject, and answer the question himself. Its like dude, just let the people answer the question themselves. The part where he's interviewing Tamez,& Elwood, there was a lot of that.and then the interview was over, and it was like I wanted to learn more from them. The interview with Mina was better because he didn't interject as much.

    Okay.....I haven't started a thread here in a very long time.....if ever.....LOL
Hang in there I will get to my question I promise.......
This seems to be a newer thing......with the age of technology and media capitalizing on the tattoo community people who never would have been tattooed 20 years ago are now seeing tattooing as a type of art form and because society deems it okay now....they have now done a flip flop and are getting tattooed!
There was a time you had to rely on just magazines or word of mouth to find a tattoo artist of a higher caliber and most people back then really weren't concerned with the quality as much as just getting the mark!
Now with technology it is easy to find a tattoo artist who can put in a solid tattoo that will still look good in 30 years if taken care of.....of course most people still don't seem as concerned with that still.....but that does seem to be changing!
BUT....with the media being so involved now in the craft and the internet being the source of most people's information on tattooing......it seems to have given rise to the people who want to be "tattoo collectors"
I never really enjoyed being labeled that by tattoo artists BUT as time went on it is what I actually became......
BUT.....in my "collecting" it really was never about the quality of the tattoo BUT the person doing the tattoo.....people who had put their time in and had a history in the business!
The new "collectors" seem to be totally about quality tattoos AND there is definitely NO shame in that......it's awesome!!!
So here it is....and thanks for hanging in there and reading all this......
Do you notice people being treated (or do you seem to treat people differently) who have a lesser quality tattoo???
I mean sometimes I find myself just shaking my head anymore and thinking WTF were they thinking......but I still do my best not to treat them as a lesser person because they made a bad choice......
I do however see others and hear others making comments behind backs and I am sure I am even guilty of this too in the past!
I am however trying to correct that behavior in myself even though I know these people would never listen to me about trying to steer them in a better direction!
    Any thoughts or comments???

    Hey guys,
This is my peacock 3/4 quarter sleeve, taken straight after yesterdays session so still pretty muddy and raw. It was done by Mie at Nine Tails Tattoo in East London,
a small shop that specializes in Japanese tattooing which I cannot recommend enough.
Started this tattoo as a cover up in november last year and will be getting the final touches on it in a couple of weeks, I'm excited to see how all the colors will come together when it is finished. I initially had all sorts of ideas about what colors I wanted for the peacock but in the end, the near finished piece is a testimony to the wisdom of trusting in your artist! So pleased with how its turned out.
So many beautiful tattoos on this thread...

I think that artist's work reminds me of Lars Uwe / Lus Lips from Berlin... Uncle Allen also sprung to mind, like Kyle said.
I don't know where he's tattooing now (could be Into You), but Steve Vinall's work seems to draw on that. He's been tattooed by Uwe so I guess there's a link.
Maybe worth looking at Inma at The Family Business too- she does something a little more her own but it might appeal to you.
There's probably others doing that neo trad (?) style in London if you look around a bit. Such a rich city for tattooing.

BLOODY HELL. Guess what I'm doing on Saturday...
I was browsing instagram yesterday admiring this guys work, in particular his peonies (Instagram), when he posted a cancellation spot. I slept on it, mentioned it to my husband this morning who made me go and email right there and then, and I just had my appointment confirmed. They were so lovely, they actually rearranged his appointments on the day to fit in round my childcare.
Thank you all for your help and suggestions, in particular to @Joe Shit who pointed me to this guy.

This is a style of tattoo that I really like. Obviously there are those who do it phenomenally well and those who seem to jump on the band wagon. For those who are looking into the style for the first time and don't know where to start then the artists mentioned in previous posts are really good but also the Black Tattoo Art books by Marisa Kakoulas and published by Edition Reuss are fantastic. Looking through them I found a lot of really interesting artists and ultimately went and got a calf piece done by Patrick Huttlinger who is now based in Germany. There's a picture of the piece in my gallery or below just here:

    Ok :)
This one is on my inner calf, done by Benjamin Moss of Apocalypse Tattoo, I hope to cover this one up some day. It has faded a lot and I am not really all that happy with how it turned out.

Armband that I designed, tattooed by Rob Hope. One of my earlier tattoos. I wouldn't design my own again.
    Inside arm

    Outside arm

Spider on the back of my neck, also by Benjamin Moss

Tarantula cover up by Clint Danroth of Dutchman tattoos at the time, was a cover up of a crappy black widow

Sharks on my chest, smiling and unsmiling. Also by Clint Danroth

Pirate ship on my other inner calf, by Chad Woodley, I think he was at Sacred Heart at the time, best pic I have of it right now.

Toodles pirate on foot, done by Adam Sky. (Toodles is the mascot from the site Tattoodles)

Anchor on other foot, also done by Adam Sky

Chameleon on back of calf, by Nomi Chi of Adorned

I think that's all of them.

If you have the ability to get tattooed before you head back west, you should think about making a trip down to Syracuse. I used to get tattooed and hang out at Halo Tattoo (the Marshall St location) and I'd see guys down from Fort Drum all the time.
Chris Chisholm there does fantastic black and grey realism, so he's worth looking into. Not much of an internet presence but I have watched him work quite often and he nails everything he does.

    Hey Everybody,
My name is Josh. I live in Los Angeles county but I am originally from Philadelphia. I am a former U.S. Marine, now I am working on my PhD in History and currently teaching at community colleges. I think tattoos are both good and bad, like many things in life. I believe it is our right to be able to put what we want on our bodies, however, I think we should all think carefully and plan before doing such. In my military days I was too "live in the moment" and now have two tattoos that are not terrible but not great either and do not have any real significance.
I joined here to get advice on how I should go about finding a tattoo artist who has the right skills needed to preform a cover up on my specific tattoos (different cover ups require different skill-sets) and to show case some of my good friend's tattoo artwork he sends me from prison. I'll post my tattoos when I write enough posts to start a new thread. Looking forward to meeting great people on here.
    -Josh
