do it @Dan!! Adelaide is beautiful, I have only been there once with a bunch of friends and loved it. Bonus having free accommodation! definitely take them up on that offer!
My tattoos cant really be seen anyway but there are staff members with visible tattoos and they aren't told to cover them up.
pet kangaroo with generic tribal! pmsl ... no . we did have a Galah. He was a bastard lol. well he loved me but he hated men. My husband couldn't go in the cage and even if he or our male friends went near the cage he would go off! just a budgie and a dog now.
yeah there are only about 3 kids in our room that are.... hmmm.... "challenging" ... the rest are brilliant.

@Duffa www.gopfl.com it was called the Pillow Fight League, more like WWE than MMA. Although one of the girls did end up going to train in MMA, I'm not sure how far she's gone with that. Staged story lines - yes, but they were often built on real things, like i hate this one chick in real life and now you're gonna make up a reason why i have to fight her cause you know it'll be good. When I was in the league the actual fights were 100% NOT scripted. Everything was real, people got hurt, refs were needed and the winner was the winner. After I left things slowly evolved into scripted fights with crazy wrestling like moves. The last time I fought it was super boring and I kept getting stopped by the ref every time I did anything. Unfortunately the league after about 5-6 year run imploded on itself and no longer exists. We almost got a reality type t.v. show but our biggest bidder MTV felt that some of the ladies faces weren't tv friendly. I did however appear on Good Morning America and a show called the International Sexy Ladies Show and some weird show that had a section called "sports that didn't make it to the olympics". Good times while it lasted. OH and the best pillow fighting move ever - push them on their back, put your pillow over their face and start punching!

i have one sewing related tattoo, it's a rose with a skeleton hand coming out holding a sewing needle. it was done in 2009 by richard stell.
i used to be in a female fighting league and always toyed with the idea of getting a tattoo related to that, maybe my stage name or something (it was Ursula Anvil) or maybe a tattoo of a gold wrestling unitard as that was my costume's main piece.
i've seen lots of tattooers with tattoos of tattoo machines (how many times can i say tattoo in a sentence haha).

I tried searching and didn't find anything on this subject. Does anyone else have tattoos about what they do for a living? I've seen lots of guys with tattoos of their trade and/or union at work and I've seen tattoo artists with tattoo machines on them. I got this after finishing my 5 year apprenticeship and becoming a journeyman (without missing a single night of class). This picture was taken probably the day after it was done about 2 years ago. I tried taking a new one but getting a decent picture of the back fo your calf is harder than I thought haha. Tattoo done by Ernie Ortiz who is now working at Black Dagger Tattoo Lounge in Vacaville, California.

A few friends of mine are starting to do this to themselves and friends. I always shake my head and tell them it's a bad idea. I usually also let them know their tattoos look like shit. Oh well, what can you do?

I was Living with My Dad at the time and announced I was going to get a tattoo. He just scoffed and said " If you get one, I'll get one". I said rightio and when I came home he cockily asked if I went through with it- I proudly showed it off.... to this day he still hasn't got a tattoo ;)
Nothing has ever been said directly to me about tattoos but there have been passing comments along the lines of not approving too many tattoos etc. but it hasn't and wont stop me :) I just let them (Dad and step Mum) discover new ink . Mum doesn't care.

I haven't been tattooing very long, so I feel awkward replying to shit like this. But here goes.
I like the act of tattooing. I love watching pigment go in the skin, seeing the line as it's being pulled across the stencil. I love it. So when I get requests for annoying shit, or things I'm sick of,(and denying that you ever get sick of shit is fucking retarded. We're humans. We get sick of shit. Period.), I try to just get past it in my head and think about the application. Not that I'm applying a tattoo that I hate, but that I'm applying a tattoo at all. And get right back into that mindset of enjoying the work aspect of it.
Without trying to sound like a wagon jumper, I too like tribal. I love watchign the black just go in solid as fuck. I know this dude is just some dude looking to look just like his boys, but in my head I'm thinking, "man, this shit is going to make your buddies tribal look like shiiiiiiiiiiiiit!". I just try to get in that zone as much as I can.
    The clients though....
None of us can control the chaos that is our client base. That is the unknown quantity part of the job. Lots of shitheads, and lots of people who don't actullay want tattoos. They just want their very own "me too, guys! I did it too! See!" story. They spend hours trying to find the least tattoo-ish, most benign design possible and stick it somewhere no one will ever see it, because to them it's just proof that they did it too when the stories start flying.
I try very hard to pick my battles, read clients and choose which ones would be receptive to some swaying. Not into something completely different to stroke my ego, but into a better planned out version of what they want. Just gotta pick the battles.
Can't do it with everyone or you burn out, and you can't responsibly be the guy who says "fuck it, I know this will look, age and heal like crap, but i'll take your cash." All the time banging rainbows up their ass telling them how good of an idea it is to keep them and their dumb friends coming back for more.
Regardless of how it will effect responsible tattooers who try to do a good, well thought out tattoo for the benefit of their clients. Just gotta do what I can to sleep at night, like trying to explain to people that upside down is upside down. I try. If they get it, awesome. If not, I'll at least try to do it clean.
Sorry for the ramble. I just felt it on this one. I felt that I need to make an ass of myself on the internet. Word.

I second the trees and hidden anything.
Also a paragraphs worth of text. Paraphrase or get an image that is in some way iconic of your intent.
Everything doesn't need to be spelled out literally letter for letter.

Trees. In the last two years I've done about 100 of them.
Trees with hidden words or initials anywhere in the design (in the trunk, branches, or roots)
Hidden words or initials. If you've got something to say, SAY IT!
Arm bands. They break up the arm in such weird spots it makes it difficult "add to" or expand on with future tattoos.
    Cherubs. Naked babies?! For reals?!
Art. You really need V. Van Gogh's "Starry Night" on your arm? Go buy a t shirt!!
Superman logos. You are from right here. Not Krypton
This list can go on forever. Sometimes it's not the what that you are tattooing but the who. Arrive on time, be respectful and don't figit around. Bring a good story to tell. Tattooers love em! Most of all, leave your tuff guy attitude at home. You ain't as tuff as us.

I can understand this. However -- just to keep stirring the pot here -- I think the next point becomes if a rapport has been established with a tattooer friend and you two trade slang terms back and forth, I think that's ok, since you've got that relationship and it's established. But, say you go to a new shop or get tattooed by another person, you're certainly not going to talk to that person like your buddy and be all, "What's up tat-wizard, tryna get those squid pants!"

All those terms are fine by me.... As long as a tattooer is using them. If the person doesn't tattoo and uses them, I wanna smash their head down into their neck.

I think it was a few days before my 18th birthday I told my mom I was getting tattooed for my birthday. She didn't really fight me about it. I think she didn't know what to say! I grew up around tattooed adults so I think she couldn't quite be so judgmental about it. And that was that.
A few years ago when I'd collected a decent amount she looked at me one day and said "You're done right?". I laughed and told her that ship had sailed. She still insists to never get my face tattooed.
More amusing was my grandpa. He just kept going "Is that real? Is that permanent? Nahhh...." and laughing.
