I have to agree to look elsewhere. You also have to consider ... has this guy ever done anything larger than what is featured on the website? Someone might be great at smaller tattoos but not have the creativity or artistry to design and execute a big one.

I've been overweight most of my life. It's one of the reasons I've avoided getting tattoos until now. For years I was self conscious about anything that could draw eyes to me. I'm less insecure about that now. Although I'm still going to avoid getting tattoos on the larger areas until I lose weight. If I wasn't planning to lose weight I wouldn't worry about it, but I don't want skin shrinking to wreck things.
Despite being American, there aren't a lot of fat people around where I live. There aren't a lot of people with visible tattoos either. I went to Disney World for the first time in my life recently, and it made me feel less weird. I saw plenty of overweight people with tattoos, and some of them were actually good. In line for a bus I saw a couple composed of a fat girl and a skinny guy. Both of them had tattoos, and the skinny guy had overweight pin up girls tattooed on his legs.
I haven't had a tattoo for very long but I think I'm experiencing the same thing I've seen others describe in this thread, I care more about my health now that I have one. It's weird, it's like by putting something I value on my leg, my leg matters more. I never really understood why I wanted a tattoo until I actually got one, now I think I know why. When you put something in your skin forever, it's not only something that looks cool, it's a part of yourself.
Do you know what I think the internet needs more of? Pictures of large people with tattoos. Here is a picture I took of myself to see what my tattoo looks like from a distance. It's not a good photo and the tattoo isn't healed yet, but I think it proves the world isn't going to fall apart if a large leg has a large tattoo on it. And here is me actually getting the tattoo, picture was taken by Fala.

Ehhhh, I found this thread looking for nice clothing/swimwear I can wear to show off a back piece I'm in the middle of getting. I am a relatively new (and younger) grandmother, currently handing out life lessons to my two granddaughters. They (or their parents) don't know the piece is in progress, and I've spent a fair amount of time thinking about how to talk to the girls about "grandma's stickers" (the oldest, 3, is putting stickers all over everyone's bodies and on my arms, face, etc.) I've got a couple months til May when the cat's out of the bag.
    So grandma's can't wear classy open-back dresses? Open-back swimsuits?
I think I'll go get my nails done and put on my high-heeled shoes.

I know, and I usually do. Since I resurrected a sleeping thread, maybe I should have prefaced my comments with <irony=ON><sarcasm=ON>
I just though it ironic that everyone is trashing the girl for stereotypes (and she needed to be called out) but then a poster here commenting that grandmas wearing clothing to show off a tattoo are somehow incapable or unable to help raise and nurture grandchildren.

    It's the most awesome thing!
Mine are 1 1/2 and 3 1/2. About a year ago, the older one saw my cat paws on my shoulder (a little memorial to my favorite little kitty - her exact prints, in the color of her paw pads, right where she used to rest her feet) and just looked at them for a minute without saying anything, then went on her way. I'm excited to see her reaction when she sees that Grandma has a WHOLE OCEAN on her back :-D

I think websites like this are literally written by robots. They probably have some computer program that finds popular search terms and constructs paragraphs about them along with some random images. Kind of sad but also hilarious.

So I was surfing random sites, and I found this excellent and informative article about tattoo blowouts that finally clarified for me the meaning behind these artistic tattoos. The article has several inspiring examples. Enjoy.

I've been reading along and have both agreed and disagreed with various parts of everyone's posts. There are many good points made all around. But after reading this one, I've reached the point of diminishing returns on this thread.
Everyone has their own body image. It's been developed and grown and mangled and thrust upon them over time and circumstances. Body image is not something many people can completely control. Maybe guys handle it better than girls. IDK. Maybe guys don't see it as a big deal. Some do. Many girls do. But to tell someone else what level of importance their own body image should have is insensitive and uninformed, especially since it's not something that is completely under someone's control.
I could give some f'ed up examples of stuff that's happened to me that affect my body image in hard ways and I've worked on that over time. Some things will never go away. I'm now much less "sensitive" to certain things, especially things I now realize people say out of ignorance and not to be hurtful. Why do I "give a flying fuck" as you say, about what people think about my body? I wish I couldn't give a flying fuck, but the point is, it isn't completely under my control. I don't blame most people for being insensitive (unless they are just being a complete jackass) because I don't put out in public why I MIGHT be sensitive.
The point is, you don't *know* other people's stories. Someone's body image of themselves may mean nothing to you, but affects them in ways they may try very hard not to reveal. So don't challenge people on it.

@gougetheeyes - oh well, I thought outlines might have helped. But gee, props to the newbie who figured out big mistake #2.
@irezumi - Thanks, the thought counts. tl;dr is better than nothing.
@CultExciter - I figured. But after wrestling with the sucky search engine again, I said screw it, let me piss off some folks and ask. Maybe there should be a section here called, "Shit that's been beaten into the ground".
@Tesseracts - wow - both are pretty wild. I wasn't looking specifically for birds - they just happened to be two of the first examples I saw that illustrated my question when I was surfing. I wasn't implying I *liked* either one in particular. I was reading about tebori when you posted your tattoo - neat. I really like the transitions - it's more like a painting like you mentioned. Thanks for giving your perspective and giving examples - something to keep in my head for next time. (Oops, did you just put a thought in my head for a third one? O_o)
    @Colored Guy - agreed.
    Thanks, all.

Part of the problem isn't really the search engine, it's that single threads here go on to perpetuity. That's great to keep particular topics together like the backpiece experience thread, but it's terrible for sifting through search results. "Watercolor" returns a ton of threads (and that's fine) but if every thread has 100 pages and it doesn't tell me which of the 100 pages it's on ..... ugh.
And now back to your regularly scheduled program...
