  1. Watching Chinatown. It's pretty good so far; kind of slow, but it's starting to pick up, about 20 minutes in.
  2. San Francisco. Taken from a National Geographic magazine from April of 1932. No name given for the tattooer or the tattooed. I may be mistaken, but I think there are some more photos of tattoos done by the tattooist in the photo in that volume of Nat Geo. Some copies are being sold on eBay.
  3. I've been to a shop that had two dogs in it. They were kept in their kennels while I was getting tattooed. I'm pro-shop-dogs I suppose.
  4. So not happy that I missed this weekend. Can't wait until we get to see all the tattoos people got.
  5. Nice score. Where'd you manage to find them? I understand if you want to protect your source, though. I have been wearing mine to death. I prefer the 501s, as they are a bit looser in the thighs. Not that I have huge thighs; I am actually pretty skinny. It's just that the 1947s are fairly narrow. Just cleaned some of the indigo rub-off off of my boots tonight.
  6. Hector Fong does some interesting Japanese work. Also, Freddy Corbin's no one-trick pony; he can definitely do some mean traditional or non-religious black and grey (or even script if you're into that). Also, another guy who does great Japanese work: Kahlil Rintye at Tattoo City. Also, also.
  7. Iggy Vans, Idle Hand Tattoo in SF. I know of one person on LST that has something from him, but I don't here about him much. Very no frills, solid traditional work. Tattooing professionally in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1994, Iggy Vans began his career at Erno Szabady's now-legendary studio on Fillmore St., in the Lower Haight, as well as at Erno's sister shop on Front St. in Santa Cruz. He has also tattooed at Everlasting (on McAllister St.), Freddy Corbin's Tattoo 13 in Oakland, Lyle Tuttle's on Columbus Ave. & at the original Picture Machine on Geary Blvd. & 4th Ave. After all those years moving around, Iggy is very proud to be back in the Lower Haight, as a senior artist on the staff at Idle Hand, since January 2005.
  8. Speaking of Rock of Ages with a twist, here's one from Jeff Zuck's Instagram.
  9. I got a wolf from Jason McAfee a few months ago. It was a great experience, and I will definitely be back to get more from those guys. I was fairly nervous, being in the presence of such talent, but they were all really nice. As @hogg said, I enjoyed my small involvement in tattoo history.
  10. Had a Belgian Style Ale from North Coast Brewing in Fort Bragg, CA, called Brother Thelonius, last night with dinner. It was pretty good. Milder than a lot of Belgian ales that I have tasted, but still held its own with my sirloin burger. If you can find it, I recommend trying it out.
  11. A History of Japanese Body Suit Tattooing Gomineko Books Those are my two recommendations. Keep researching, and keep your enthusiasm.
  12. A guy at work asked me about my tattoo, and showed me one of his. His was a Shel Silverstein reference with a ton of tiny, super unreadable script. He said it was his "anti-tough-guy tattoo," and that the lettering was "supposed to be impossibe; guys who have been tattooing for 20 years wouldn't even try it." I don't think he realizes that those old timers had good reasons not to try it. Anyway, I just ended the conversation ASAP since I didn't want him to keep putting his foot in his mouth.
  13. Thanks, LST (including all the moderators and staff and regular members), and happy birthday! Love you guys!
  14. Had a Lagunitas Lucky 13 last night. Have a Stone Ruination in the fridge for tonight.
  15. I was 21 when I got my first tattoo (22 now). My little sister went with me to get it, and I stopped by my older sister's house on the way home to show it to her. I decided not to tell my mom about it, but she saw it one day when she went into my room while I was sleeping. She didn't mind since my sisters both got tattoos before me. When we were kids, though, she said that if any of we kids got tattoos, she would "scrape them off with a butter knife!"
  16. @chrisnoluck Did Franz Stefanik put that Morton Salt girl on your lady? Also, nice tattoos you got from Timmy.
  17. Welcome! I got that black and blue print that you sent out a while ago to help the family with the gunshot incident. Great stuff! Glad to have you on LST.
  18. @Deb Yarian . Haha, when I saw those pictures and thought they might be from you guys, but I figured I would make sure.
